Got any cool/funny/awesome facts about the Asura, post em here!
To start it off, I’ll post one:

The common phrase of “Excelsior!” is actually a real word in the Latin language. It means “Higher” or “Above all others”. I dunno, I just found this extremely fitting XD

When they scrapped utopia campaign, they were left with tons of concpet art and propably even game assets, so they put them into good use.

Fun fact, being stupid is a crime (visit jail level of rata sum).

<edit>…i propably shouldn´t have put that quote and that fact in the same post, completely unrelated, no insults intended.

Asura measure attractiveness (at least in males) by ear size. This is seen in mini-quest/reputation thing from Guild Wars 1:

“My whole life I’ve been telling myself that size doesn’t matter. Um, try telling that to the ladies. I mean, What healthy female goes for a guy with tiny ears? If only there was a way I could naturally enhance them…”
“You know, taro leaves look an awful lot like a big sexy pair of ears.”

To be quite honest, in my opinion, the Asura with big ears are quite cute. Like giant bunny rabbits.

I was kinda hoping to see M.O.X. around the game world in GW2, seeing as how he could have survived all of this time and would be one of the oldest “living” golems and a cool carryover from GW1. Alas, he is not.

Anyway, right, facts for this thread… Let’s see what I can remember that hasn’t already been discussed:

• At approximately the same time the Snaff Prize is held, the students of the three colleges hold an intercollegiate for-fun competition called the Snafu Prize. The prize is given to the invention that is the most catastrophic failure. (Source: Asura NPC in Rata Sum)

• Most of the asura councilors really don’t want to be there. Many act out of some sense of personal obligation, but are constantly looking for opportunities to foist their responsibilities upon someone else. They would rather be back in their own labs. (Source: Snaff, Edge of Destiny) Additionally, an NPC in the College of Dynamics mentions that the ministry is essentially a farce.

• There’s a female asura in Rata Sum who talks about a relationship issue with her girlfriend. So, I am assuming homosexuality is fairly accepted in asuran society.

Any chance you could tell me exactly where this Asura is?

Here’s one: Asura lack both mammaries and belly buttons. The latter is particularly strange considering they supposedly do live birth…

It’s possible that the umbilical cord is attached to a different location for Asura. (Maybe their heads? You need lots of blood going to those massive brains, after all. XD)

Not all mammals have obvious mammary glands either. Female asura might have flat nipples that aren’t readily obvious. (The fact that female asura have a “bra” for their underwear suggests that they do have them, but they’re almost impossible to notice under clothing.)

Well, no, if it was you would be able to see an indentation where the connection was. Asura are completely flat over their entire bodies.

Not all mammals have obvious mammary glands either. Female asura might have flat nipples that aren’t readily obvious. (The fact that female asura have a “bra” for their underwear suggests that they do have them, but they’re almost impossible to notice under clothing.)

I actually have armor that shows the entirety of my (female) character’s right breast… There is definitely nothing there. It could be hidden under skin or something, but I’ve never heard of such a thing (unless it’s a marsupial, but even their pouches are really, really obvious).

I’m seriously thinking Asura are not mammals. They may be ovo-viviparous or histotrophic viviparous.

That is entirely possible. In a world with fantastical creatures that can petrify you with their gaze or that are far too huge to realistically support their own body weight, who’s to say that Asura aren’t part of a new type of Order that is warm-blooded, has hair, but are ovo-viviparous?

They do, I’m just saying that you don’t need “it’s a fantasy world” to justify a mammalian species producing eggs. Although asura might not be mammalian: I don’t think the devs have said anything about that.

Keep in mind catagories like mammal, reptile, amphibian are completly dependant and based on rules that are already broken in alot of placesand overlaped in others. So, that kind of catagory only really refers to a set of characteristics that we see tend to go together.

In a fantasy world like Tyria, those tendancies may not be as prevalent so there may be no practicle purpose for that manner of catagory. They may use an entirly diffrent standard of classification.

No, you’re clearly wrong there.
There’s not doubt about it; Asura are undoubtedly sapiens excelcius! (And don’t forget the exclamation mark, an essential component of the classification)

Gixx (the leader of the Priory) was supposed to be the iconic asuran character before Anet replaced him with Zojja and well, making him what he is now.

I also found out that rangers among asura are rather rare to encounter when I was talking to the aide-de-camp of the Blood Legion tribune.

They do? I’m gonna have to de-shirt my male asura next time to see if that’s the case. If so, the female models don’t have it just for modesty reasons.

Another fun (actually sort of sad) fact: When asuras marry or enter a long-term relationship, they often (not always) set an end date for the relationship. Since this kind of long-staying relationship usually includes progeny and joint ventures (i.e. research over time), it’s safe to say it’s usually between 10 – 20 years.

So, the conclusion? While we know asura genuinely fall in love and have feelings for one another, many are pragmatically-minded about it nonetheless and are realistic about how long their passions will actually last.
