Here is what I have:

Thief – 60 – Human
Warrior – 34 – Norn
Ranger – 37 – Norn
Necro – 53 – Human
Ele – 15 – Sylvari
Empty Character Slot

I want an Asura in the mix, never will be Charr because they just don’t do it for me.

So my professions to choose from are:

Mesmer
Engineer
Guardian

I have leveled a Memser to 17, it was Norn and I had enough Norn and wasn’t really all that impressed with the Mes up to that point.
I’ve dabbled with the other two, but not even to level 10.
I am not opposed to making another Thief, because they are fun but I have a certain play style I stuck with on the Human and could do another build as I level.

I have yet to do any dungeons or participated in any pvp, if that makes a difference.

So help me decide what my little Asura could be please.

I have 4 Asuras and 1 Norn.
My Asuras are Thief 80 and Mesmer, Engineer and Guardian (last 3 around lvl 30).

Engineer fits the Asura theme very well and is a very fun class to play, with all the gizmos and such. I’m not good at it though I must admit, but I always have fun playing it.

Mesmer is a difficult class to play but rewarding when you master it (not that I do though, same as engineer), but again when I play mine I have fun.

Guardian is tough cookie and easy to play and stay alive (at least for me).

Maybe it depends on the gender you plan to play ? That could help your decision perhaps ?
If you want to play a cute-bunny female stereotype with pink and purple themed colour you should try a Mesmer : the particle effects and shinies go well with that.
If you’d rather play a boyish mischievous gadget using geek-like machine of death (from below) you should try Engineer.

And yes, I too have considered that when I buy next slot I may well play a second thief with a totally different build and weapon loadout. (My Asura one is D/P & P/D and I plan on creating a D/D & SB one later).

In the end I’d say that if you want to play something with a different playstyle and gameplay than the ones you currently play then I’d suggest either Engineer or Mesmer.

I envy you for one thing : you’re going to discover the Asura story and are going to fall in love with the Asuras animations and voice quotes !

Lvl 80 engineer asura and lvl 5 or so asura their both feel perfect for the asura, theif being stealthy perfect for small and fleet footed asura, engineer matches Thierry technical prowess and wonder for using gadgets and gizmos I absolutely love it

I currently got an asura guardian, thief and ele (lvl 1 still stuck in tutorial) and don’t see a reason to make any one of my chars non-asura ^^

I feel that Guardian fits Asura very well specifically because of one thing: Power Armor.

Or in this case Golem Armor. Warrior relies on their own strength while the Guardian seems to rely more on their “magic” while wearing heavy armor basically their strength comes from what their wearing and their intellect not from their physical power. This fits Asura perfectly.

Roll a Collage of Statics Asura Guardian and try to picture all of your Guardian powers coming from a Golem Suit power armor system. Its really fun. The Shoulder armor also helps this.

Asura Engineer.

Engineers get a lot of benefit from being asura – the asuran racial utilities are condition-based and engineers can be deadly condition users. Even a power build can benefit from Pain inverter (AoE confusion, personal retaliation) and the many shield abilities available to engineers.

Although you probably have this covered with that many tooms, asura engineer makes a fine jumping puzzle runner, with their small size, flamethrower for dark places and targettable rifle jump for harder jumps.

Also, the cultural pistols and rifles are just sweet. Too bad there are no cultural skins for engineer kits.
