How do you suppose the Asura view those who are mentally disabled? There are a lot of genetic and other disorders which result in low IQ levels and impaired mental ability. So if there was an Asura born with an IQ of, say, 60—how do you suppose s/he would be treated? Maybe the Asura have assisted living facilities for them? Or they would just do really basic tasks at a relative’s lab? Is it possible they would be “quietly disposed of” for the betterment of society? What do you think?

It is likely that the asura brain is highly resistant and perhaps even immune to such conditions. It may even be able to regenerate damage caused by trauma and other physical disruption.

What is crippling to us may be a temporary “flu” for them.

i dont think low iq is in asura genes – intelligence is probably a quality that asura look for in a potential partner, everyone has them, some guys like girls with big chests/small chests/big behind/small behind/tall/short/blue eyes/brown eyes/green eyes/brunette/blonde/ginger/fat or slim, or chubby/ and so many different personalities
– for asura, other than looks and personality, intelligence must play a big part – a genius asura would ever put up with an asura that is less intelligent than they are

for charr, it would all be based on combat ability (muscle mass/size/kills) as such, there is no such thing as a weak charr, only the old or maimed – for born, they have to have equal achievements as we learned from that one quest in guild wars 1 when we nearly got married to a norn, seeing how each norn wishes to make their name in legend, each strives for greatness so there is no ‘weak’ norn either

basically – its selective breeding, low iq does not appear in the asura genome

Sad, but true.

Two options:

1) They are used as “expendable” lab assistants for volatile experiments.

2) No krewe wants them and they end up joining the Inquest.

The stupid in Asura society are useless to the Asura as a species. Not outright killed, but not quite tolerated. Often the subjects of experiments and recuiting by the Inquest.

Even so, your dumbest Asura is at least as smart as your average Charr :P

This… actually makes a great deal of sense when you consider the tagline for the Inquest Slayer title: “If they’re so smart, how come they couldn’t keep from getting killed?”

We’re committing intellectual cleansing on the Asura! O.o

@Getefix.9150, asura attraction seems to comprise more than just intellectual capabilities. Check out The Old College Try .

As for how they respond to below average intellect, most likely those asura either settle among less intelligent races where their disabilities aren’t as obvious, or, if at the point of severe mental kittenation, are likely sheltered to some degree, since “Asura have a strong sense of family and extended family, they affectionately refer to their children as “progeny” or “offspring”. They also venerate their parents, and grandparents. Asura traditionally cremate their dead." Though, I suppose there is the chance that unintelligent asura are simply used as test subjects for untested products that could be hazardous to an asura’s health.

Q: How easy it will be to determine the gender of Asura characters? Do female Asura have breasts?

Eric: Asura are mammals and female asura do have mammary glands, however they are not particularly prominent the way they are in humans or norn. For the sake of physical attraction, asura place much more importance on the ears, eyes, and shape of the head (larger head equals larger cranial capacity of course!) than anything else. As for telling the genders apart, female asura tend to have much softer and fine features than males and wear their hair differently.

Q: Do asura have solid relationships with the opposite sex? If so, do they still try to outdo each other while in such a relation?

Yes, there are strong relationships between male and female asura, that usually develop out of common interests on a project. The course of love never runs smooth, so that you will have relationships with each side trying to prove they have the bigger intellect and better ideas.

http://gw2.onlinewelten.com/articles,id229,2,asura_interview.html

So yes, Intelligence is part of attraction for them – but it doesn’t seem like it’s the only, or even the main reason for attraction between two asura.

Also, for those who aren’t particularly smart…

Q: Are there any non-academics among the asura as well, like ordinary workers?

Absolutely. But those workers are in turn seeking to improve their own tasks through innovation and experimentation (“I’ve just re-organized all the books in the library. BY COLOR!”)

[Also from the second link]

So it looks like the Asura may just put those who don’t make the cut intellectually to work in more mundane jobs that would benefit the Asura as a whole, and keep them out of the way of more the more dangerous aspects of experiments.

…Unless they join the inquest, then all bets are off.

He wasn’t jailed because of that. One of the npc says he is too dummy to stay alone, so he probably caused some mess somewhere.

There is actually some conversation between him and the warden, he’s in jail until he comes up with something.

There are also a few NPCs around the banking area, one in particular talks about his mother who was exiled from her krewe. There are a lot of interesting NPCs all over Rata Sum, its quite nice looking for all of them.
