My friend and I both play Male Asuras, I’m an Elementalist and he’s an Engineer. I’ve noticed that during quest dialogues my character sounds a bit different than his when I start the quest vs when he starts it. He said that it’s just my imagination and that it’s the same voice, I looked it up and he’s right, there’s only one voice actor for Male Asura.

I’m not convinced though, my guy sounds a bit more geeky and energetic, whereas his guy had a slightly lower tone and tougher sounding. I wonder if the game engine changes the tone of the audio file a bit for characters other than your own to make your guy feel more ‘unique’, cuz that would be pretty cool! I wonder if it has something to do with the personality you chose (e.g. charm, dignity, ferocity).

Is this true or am I really just imagining things?

It’s you subconsciously putting the personality you made for your Asura on its voice.

For example, If I envision my Asura as being comical I’m likely to determine and infer that the voice actor has a more comical voice.
