Since I’m Asura I though I can put this here.

What is ArenaNet trying to do to promote visiting cities like Rata Sum (or home towns in general). I went there the other day and it was completely deserted. Quite a pity, as it is such an awesome city!

One solution -I- could think of would be to change home instances into something useful. To be honest, it just feels like a lifeless zone, but that is another topic.

Any other suggestions? Is that even a problem for ArenaNet? lol

First of all, have a world wide chat channel when in any major city, like wow does.

Player housing.

Guild housing.

Eh. i think the only ones who would want a reason to stay in your own home city are RPers. (Which I am) But they already have the incentive. So, player housing would be great for us but would still target the same group that is already there. guildhousing would cut us off from the rest of the city so wouldn’t help with the problem.

I’m really not sure what else A-Net can do. In WoW, everything is accessable form the city and that’s all anybody did is sit in a city without going into the world. (At least before Mists, not sure now). i hated that. the world became dead. and that would be especially detrimental to GW2 with the way it encourages interaction.

Actualy, as I think about it, they should make things for the RPers. it would help becasue it would provide an environment that is more suited to each race. Like chairs to sit in. Things like that. then each race would feel more comfortable in their own cities and we would see more race orientated guilds. Rather than just the masses in the cities of the more popular races becasue the majoirty of the guild is somewhere else.

That reminds me. If possible, tables with chairs where the ‘interact’ causes the player to sit! This will be awesome for guild halls and player housing if it’s ever implemented.

i think you might be onto something here.

majority of people hang out in LA because that’s the major travel hub. you can get anywhere from there (in wow terms – it’s a pre-cataclysm Dalaran).

adding all city portals and all WvW portals to every race city could potentially increase the traffic in home towns as there would be no more need to pass through LA first.

also, adding all city portals (not just LA) to PvP area might be a good idea too.

This. I hate LA cause the TP and bank are so far away. Rata sum is the best city imo in these terms. But no one is there. they should really add portals to all the cities.
