We have five character slots, and five races, so I want to have one character for each race. Currently I have:
Sylvari Ranger
Norn Elementalist
Charr Warrior
Human Thief
My main concerns with the Asura are aesthetics. For example, I tried making an Asura Thief before the Human one, but I could not see my daggers and the attack animations were a little bleh. The Human was aesthetically more pleasing as a Thief. Which classes go well with the race’s short stature? Lore-wise, I am not sure how any of the classes work. It seems like I should have a pocket railgun, or just beat my opponents down with my enormous ego
Can anyone provide advice on making a cute Asura? I have played with the character generator a bit, but keep coming up with something that looks like an extra from the movie Gremlins :P
Engineer works just fine for Asura, if you don’t mind smaller looking pistols, or prefer to use rifles. I also find all “caster” classes tend to work just fine, because it’s not the size of your character that matters, but rather the arcane destruction/control they can pump out. Plus, staffs don’t look THAT bad on Asura, and they have this cute little evil grin as the twirl it around while idle.
As for a cute Asura, it’s all about the floppy ears and the afros. Spots help too. But then again, cute is in the eye of the beer... err… beholder.
Engineer is a winner for asura, especially with the golem racial elites. Necro is another choice, it really gives a sense of rampant genius-megalomaniac to command an army of minions that are each twice your size.

I have a Engineer and I like it even though the aesthetic is not correct, using Charr tech instead of their own. I also have a Guardian that if I roleplay as a cybernetically enhanced Juggernaut who extensively researched the connections between man and machine (synergetics) it works very well. But your right. Currently there are not a lot of “within the lore” options for a Asura other than the scholar classes and it deeply saddens me.
While a necromancer would probably fit the flavor of the race a little more than a Mesmer, I would suggest Mesmer if you want to keep the caster feel, only because they can wield a Greatsword, and having an asura run around with a great sword hoisted over their shoulder is something that never gets old.
Personally I have an Asura thief and Guardian, love them both.
You dislike Gremlin-like Asura? Shame on you!

Loving my Asura Necro. All weapons will look tiny, but watching her flip, spin and jump when using auto attack is cute. And having minions 4x your size.
Anything with two handed martial weapons – guardian, mesmer, ranger, warrior.
These weapons don’t suffer nearly as much clipping as one handed weapons (Which frequently appear under the asuras armour), and the animations are so dynamic and borderline comical; the way they counterbalance their movement to offset the giant greatsword or warhammer they’re swinging and really throw their weight into it to get some momentum behind it.
I love my Asura Engineer for the grenade kit lobbing and flame thrower kit. It looks very stylish and cool looking. Also it “fits” the Asura dodging theme very much when you finish evading and you throw an handful of grenades. =)
