There is talk in the living story forum about the latest asuran news.

That is that a new and apparently unseen asuran character is going to be introduced to the cast of heroic characters that forms the destiny’s edge backup team (Rox, Braham et al).

While this may be somewhat of a double topic, I do think it is important to raise the issue here in that it may well affect how asura are portrayed in the game. It is possible that we are getting a “comedy” asura character that some have compared to jar jar binks. We may get a scary insane asura or we may be pleasantly surprised and get a proper, rounded asuran character that has some depth and is worthy of racial representation.

I really hope that our race comes out well from this and its a positive move to have such a character….but I cant help but feel a little worried at what may come to pass.

I want a tough one like Efut.
One that is smart enough to know physics and utilize said knowledge with a mace to someone’s forehead.

If they introduce an asura that turns into a joke like Jar Jar I will probably rage quit the game.

I agree about having someone like Efut. She’s brilliant and capable. I want an asura that can be portrayed as dependable, not a moron.

Also useful to look back at the previous example.

Do we feel that Zojja measured up to all of these requirements? Was she a suitable race example on her own?

I personally felt that Oola was a better representation of Asura than Zojja was. I got really tired of the snaff worship from zojja, as it got to the point of being rabid.

Everyone had their little quirks in Destiny’s Edge.
As for Zojja and her Snaff worship, I didn’t mind it too much.
She showed that Asurans do care about their own, another fine example was Vekk in GW1. Snaff was like a father to her. When he died she never did adjust in a healthy manor until you get in the later dungeons.

Oola was a great example of the “mad scientist” side of the Asura, no question there.
Hopefully Anet doesn’t make this new one a Jar Jar, but rather another expanding view in the Asuran culture.

I can’t help but love Zojja .. if only because its Felicia Day’s voice and she’s awesome. I hope the new one is a bit mad, like Invader Zim or something

Vorpp was interesting as Asura.
Love between race annoys me a bit, I seriously NOT want to see the Asura crew fall in love with a human, norn, or other …

I want a true Asura. Asura is a logic. Who will solve the problems, or allow you to use surprising inventions.

Not falling in love! but defines the term true friendship.

I find Taimi to be awesome. She’s got a tiny bit of hero worship toward Scarlet but at the same time she understands Scarlet is mad/a danger. Her method of moving about (riding ontop of scruffy, her golem, though if you use the camera to clip within scruffy’s front you see a seat behind the ‘faceplate’) fits Asura so well and I think it’d be a neat thing for say, warriors. Ride on shoulder/within golem (Taimi jumps inside Scruffy for combat) and they do the weapon attacks.

Also, she’s actually more like a teenager for Asura. She’s not nearly as tiny as progeny are, but not quite to full grown Asura size yet.

Taimi is a bit too much like Zojja for my tastes- always right, always ignored, and hotheaded about it. I do like the “she’s just a kid” angle thrown in there- there’s some potential for some interesting character moments as a result of that. Then again, it also makes the character extremely high risk for Mary-Sueing, so we’ll have to see how good the writers are.

I also like how she always rides her golem, and actually climbs inside during combat. (Wish I could do that… *cough*summon powerfail suit cough) Although they need to work on her golemized voice, it sounds way too much like GLADOS.

Well, Taimi apparently is Zojja’s charge/apprentice. With her parents dead and Zojja being the role-model…

Course, her approach is completely different to everybody else. Braham, Rox, Marjory and Kasmeer have been through (at least Braham and Rox from the start) most if not all of Scarlet’s previous actions and attacks. Taimi wasn’t involved in those so she’s not looking at things with a “What will this do to us in a hostile manner!”

Still, I agree with the hope she doesn’t become a mary sue (anymore then perhaps all Asura are by nature… that intellect and all). I’ve been curious if they have an animation for her climbing inside Scruffy or if they just swap the models out real quick.

I can answer that one, she does indeed have an animation for entering scruffy. A while ago it was posted as a gif on reddit, but I cant track it down. Basically, she hops on the canopy, taps three times on it and it vanishes, so she falls into the seat.

found it and also watched ingame. Though the ingame one had her disappear and the panel remain disappeared for a while. (Probably just visual lag on my end). Very neat and it’s nice they actually had that. Now I’m curious if there is an animation for her getting out lol.
