Racial Elites not worth the skill points?

But golems are awesome!
The Golem skills are the closest im ever going to get to a Golemancer class.
The golem “pet” is actually really really good.
The golem suit is pretty much just fun.
Yeh I have to disagree here. I play an engineer and so far I’ve used every single one of the racials to some success. The poison field was fun, the pain inhibitor a riot, technobabble maybe less useful.
As far as the elites tho, 7-series and D-series golems have been huge lifesavers and tons of fun. The mecha suit is sadly underpowered but hey it’s a giggle.
They are pretty useful early on for Guardians at least, not a fan of Renewed Focus (although the only elite available underwater) and the only useful tome is the 30 skill point elite and even that’s for emergencies.

I find the defensive golem to be very useful for my engineer. It’s a nice little pocket tank for emergencies.

This.
As a conditions Necro, Radiation field is just awesome.
I have the ride armor elite skill – it’s clunky as kitten. I get an HP boost while I’m in it, but there’s like a 3 second response time between me USING a skill and it actually BEING USED. If it had the same response times as an actual player, it might have meant something :S. Oh, and if it dies – you die.
I just unlocked all the skills and have used all of the asura elites, but I do think the suite could use a cd reduction 240s makes me not want to bring it.

You have something that does the exact same thing on a shorter cooldown albeit with a minor drawback of weakening yourself.

That is true, but 15 seconds is 15 seconds.
Take both and you have 30 seconds of poison field.
Place them both and you have a MASSIVE poison field.
It’s always nice to have options =D
The Golem Suite is so problematic due to how unreactive it is.
I kind of wish they had stuck with their original intentions of having an additional racial trait line. While I understand their reasoning in wanting to prevent certain combinations from being “optimal.” They could have solved this by not allowing us to spec into that trait line for sPvP.

techno babble is a daze this stops enemy from acting for the duration… i’d say might be useful in pvp if you spec around pure control and lockdown.
My thoughts are that most of them are useful ONLY issue i have is the suit and it is that the suits hp is tied to yours. This would be a GREAT oh crap button to use, jump in suit and have it operate like death shroud in that it has its own life bar. So gives you that extra bit of health. Its damage is sub-par but good ability to finish off the enemy. Thats way i feel it should work.

This. I play an engineer but I want to be some sort of cyber/robotic/Golemancer character. I will be for the most part spaming the golem and pretending my different buffs are cybernetic enhancements. Cheesy I know but this is what I want to play.
Well I have only been messing with the elites since I started doing mostly dungeons so that prolly isnt helping but my defensive golem never lives long enough to even give monsters pause for thought. At the end of the day I cant find a reason to replace thief support or dagger storm with any of the racials.
That said I do love radiation field and pain inverter. I think techno babble needs one of two changes, either drop the cooldown down to 10 seconds or so or leave the cooldown and make it multi target.

If we were just to argue over Pets > Suit, pets would win, an extra man to do dps/ take damage is always welcome
Even if you don’t take the racial skills first, you get so many skill points by 80 just from running around the world that it really shouldn’t matter.
I like the suit you get into purely for a laugh. Walking up to gate doors with it in WvW and pretending it’s a siege golem is amazing. People react well! Both enemies in targeting me and friendly awe.
Sadly it’s a terrible ability which is only useful for it’s considerably powerful heal.
I’ve never tried to pet summons myself though so I can’t comment on those.

Has anyone tried whether the Suit can actually be used by someone else, like the tooltip seems to indicate?
I can’t seem to get much actual combat use out of the suit but I am sure it has its uses. Its pretty fun though! The golem is great but I chose the healer pet ranger gets because people keep dying around me.
the light! And if we dance, until the heart explodes,
It’ll make this place ignite!
The golem suit is like stepping into a coffin: the problem is that it is not fun to play -that is why noone brings it.
There are so many backwards choices with the suit it’s ridiculous. It is a ground targeted skill with a 200 range? That is basically melee range so why is it ground targeted? The skills all have a delay before casting and cause a global cooldown on all of your skills -If you try to fight something with any type of CC then you are in permanent lockdown. Also the Golem suit does not have its own health pool -if it dies -you die or if you get out with 5% health then you still have 5% health. This issue is amplified by that fact that there is no timer letting us know how much time we have left in the suit.

When I got guild wars I thought the golem suit would be class based, having abilities in the style of your class.
I was quite disappointed and hope they make it more flavourful – since you can’t use it in pvp I want my elementalist golem!
Really? I love my 7-series! He’s very good for general PvE adventuring, he can agroo some mobs and keep them off me for a while, killing them (some times not) while i take care of the rest.
And the D-series is great for dungeon runs!
“Pain Inverter” is stupid useful as a low-30’s Asura Guardian. Bought “Defensive Golem” and so far, I’m fairly underwhelmed by it. Doesn’t last long enough and the cooldown time on it is just killer. “Radiation Field” (for a Guardian) is a waste of points.
WAY too many alts to list here.

You’re a GUARDIAN (so am I). Defensive Golem does what guardians are REALLY good at— of course it’s underwhelming. I sometimes use if for a decoy, tho.
To go over all of our racials:
Pain Inverter
Depending on class/profession this can be really useful or really pointless. If you love conditions you’ll like this a lot for PvP especially.
Radiation Field
Depending on class/profession this can be really useful or really pointless. It provides a Poison Combo field + solid debuffs with it’s 50% fumble. Sadly less useful in PvP due to being so obvious to avoid, but in chokepoints it has the power to crumble the front line of the enemy advance easily. Use this when defending a lord in a tower or keep, it’ll make a large difference. Also very useful in PvE since 50% Fumble on boss attacks is a lot of damage avoided.
Technobabble
Depending on class/profession this can be really useful or really pointless. It is a daze. Not a bad one, and the CD is ok-ish. If your profession has a lot of dazes you’ll boggle what the point of it is, if it doesn’t then this can be extremely helpful. Depends on profession more than anything, really.
D Golem
Quite powerful, but sadly shackled by his lack of AE damage reduction. He’s beefy but goes down under too fast in the chaos which is WvW, and can die in split-seconds in PvE if he decides to run into the wrong circle.
Assuming you’re not getting screwed by random AI chance, he’s pretty cool.
7 Golem
Meh. Yeah he’s supposed to be more about offence, but not only does he fall apart if you sneeze in his general direction, he also just doesn’t provide much damage to begin with. If he had AE reduction (I think that for a lot of entities, including Clones of Mesmers :P ), he’d be pretty cool.
The way it is he’s more of an oh-kitten tool when running around solo and overpulling a little bit.
Golem Suit
Oh dear, where to begin?
- It doesn’t need to be ground targetted, since it’s range is melee range and the cast is already so slow.
- It’s animation speed is far too slow. Half the time the buttons don’t react because you couldn’t see that the previous animation wasn’t done yet, plus the suit “feels laggy” as a result of how slow the animations are.
- It’s damage – as a result of how slow it animates – is extremely low, even while holding down #3. In fact I’d say that while #3 is ok-ish, and #4 can be useful the moment you breach a gate, in general you do a straight downgrade in power when equipping the suit, independent of profession and spec!
- It’s health is linked with yours. This would be understandable iff the suit was so strong that you’d need to be in mortal danger at all times. It isn’t, hence…
I get that racial elites aren’t supposed to be powerhouses, but ours feel… frustrating. D and 7 aren’t smart enough to be useful – pah, College of Statics! I could have done that much better! – and Golem Suit is a self-nerf.
Racial slurs include local names for parts of the annatonomy which technically aren’t parts of the human annatonomy.
The video on youtube of the 30 skill point Golem did not impress me. It shows him fighting two bees, which take the Golems health down to half. I don’t consider that an “elite” skill. Definitely not worth 30 points.

As a Guardian, the 7-series Golem is fantastic for general PvE. All three of our elites are basically useless for the quick choas of open world PvE. The tomes are strong in dungeons and PvP/WvW, but the golem is great for me in PvE.
I know the devs don’t want any race to have a “Must get” elite skill but come on guys. The Asura elites and just silly.
My human would like to have a word with you… He is willing to exchange his Racials for Asura’s.

Aren’t the hounds of balthazar pretty good? I saw someone devastate some mobs with those, far better than our little battle suit that can’t do crap.

They’re not, any profession elite outshines those in terms of damage or utility and hounds are very-very fragile.
But Elite Racials are half the problem, other skills are useless crap, too. At least Asura get their utility skills right.
My two cents bout Asura racials:
Condition Field: Awesome for PvE, and condition builds.
Technobabble: Dont understimate 2 sec daze, some builds are awesome with daze.
Pain Inverter: Another awesome PvE skill for handling a bunch of creeps.
7 Series Golem: Meh, good damage and helps tank.
D Series Golem: This is the perfect golem for Dungeoneering. Helps a lot.
Power Suit: Don’t have it. Read its useless.
