A buddy of mine was trying one day to hit the bottom or Rata Sum to take a look around. After several attempts he ALMOST made it but was way pointed back to Rata Sum. To his supprise he was locked in the empty cell at the prison. I wanted to test it myself and sure enough it worked. Below is a screen shot taken today.

Wait, what? I want more details! Basically, how exactly is this done?

For the record, I remember going down there during the beta. You need a friend with a personal story instance to do this though. First you jump down and die, your friend enters his story and takes you with him. While there you are resurrected, so when you leave the instance you’ll be down on the bottom again, but alive

After that everyone can jump down for you to ress – We had like 10 people down there at some point

Well this is a little different. There is like an invisible wall that kills anything that touches it. I used death shroud to eat that damage and it instantly put me in the downed state instead. Almost as soon as that happened I was teleported into the asuran jail cell you can see in the picture.

Yep. That was a change the devs put in after people were falling down there, died, and then used a Revive Orb to res themselves and look around. Now if a player is down there AND alive, they get teleported back into the Asuran prison.

Sounds fun. I think I remember having one of those revive orbs somewhere…

It’s not on the inside but the outside. Slide down the wall (outer) until you fall off Rata Sum itself. Shortly after that you will hit an invisible wall that will kill you instantly. If you survive it like I did (just cast death shroud) then you will be ported to the prison.

I fell down there before, I just found a way to fall to the water under rata sum, and as I was falling I waypointed back up into the jail, only works sometimes for me though

I tried to go through an asura gate once in Rata Sum and got ported to the jail cell O_o

Law of Unintended Consequences: When they put that in to stop people from doing just that, they gave them a new reason to do exactly that. LOL! Good job, ANet.

That’s how we handle bookahs who snoop around.

lol, I did just that without knowing about it, you can imagine how surprised I got when I respawned at the jail.

This sounds like a coverup! What is down there that the Arcane Council doesn’t want us to see? They throw everyone who goes down there in jail — this is highly suspicious activity.

Is there a rampaging, mutated three-headed canine? An entire inquest lab filled with kidnapped test subjects? A whole society of miniature trolls? Did they dump golem parts down there and now those golems have evolved to repair themselves and create new golems? Or is it something more weird and dangerous…

I accidently found this tonight when i was goofing off with my freind, i slid down the wall of Rata Sum and landed in the prison cell! what a crack up, still finding little things like this that make me just LOVE this game!!! hahahahahaahaahahaaaaaa

You have to slide down the outside of the building, I’ve been down the bottom in the inside of Rata Sum using the necro spectral recall trick but when i tried to do the same trick on the outside of the building thats when i landed in the jail cell.

We used to hold costume brawl tournaments under Rata Sum way way back. :o

while back they extended the boundaries of the go-directly-to-jail zone because people were finding ways around it, and they accidentally included the idea incubation lab area- it’s since been fixed.
