So today I got around to crafting some Lv. 80 exotic leather armor for my Asura Engineer.
This is what I got (chest only)
This is not okay. It’s bland, boring and completely lacking in detail. The animal-textured skirt is the only part of it with a semblance of quality, and that probably only because it wasn’t changed from the human version. As a hobbyist game artist myself, I do understand that maintaining an even pixel density across all objects in a scene is most efficient and appealing, but it’s a mistake to focus only on the game world—there are also character sheets and dialogue cutscenes to consider, and I don’t feel that they have been.
The worst part is, while this issue is evident in other armors, this is by far the worst I’ve seen. I liked the Rascal and Prowler sets well enough, and the Noble is… okay, at least. This armor is at the very least a meaningful prestige milestone, and a player is likely to be wearing for quite a while. It should stand up to close inspection, not warrant transmutation with something less rare.
I know it’s being a drama queen to be all “I’m going to go roll a human/norn/sylvari now,” and I’m sick of reading lines like that in the class forums, but… I am. I’m going to do just that. I already had no reason to care about Legendary weapons on this character because I’m an engineer, plus a number of other issues so this is more the straw that broke the dolyak’s back, but… I’m just really disappointed.
