The Nature of Asuran Names
Well asura seem to have short one or two syllable names (zojja, snaff, robb, gixx, etc.) Their names also for the most part have a repeated consonant. Using your account name you could use Mopp as a name. I used the short version of my name (Zach) to get my asura’s name of Zakk. Also female asura names occasionally end with a vowel (zojja, oola) while males end with consonants (vekk, blimm, gadd) but i do believe there are exceptions from both games. Hope this helps!
Proud player of Crusader, Arcanist,
Beastmaster, Shadowraider, and Shieldbearer Zakk!
zach has it all done right
Thanks Zach, I think I’ll use Mopp for my elementalist if it’s not taken.
Another tip : if a name you want is taken, add a title to it.
Examples: Doctor, Teacher, Lobotomist, Philanthropist, Director, Synergeticist
You can add things after your name as well.
Examples: —- of Metrica Province, —- the Dishwasher
So your name could look like:
Geneticist Blorp, * Agent Blorp * Blorp of Unit Five
Another good idea, thanks.
Zakk and Obfuscate both had great advice. (Thus saith, Meccal…)
I also highly suggest a using a thesaurus – unless such verbalisms invariably matriculate to your preponderous vocabulary.
Example of Thesaurus:
- Doctor Mopp does not sound quite as good as Mopp the Sophisticate.
OR you can create your own position/specialty/description from scratch.
To create a new fantasy/scifi position or specialty:
- Take the root of a word you like
(e.g. crystal, blaze, night) - Add a magical or sciencey suffix
(e.g. crystal-mancy, blaze-ry, night-ography) - Add a prefix, or not
(e.g. crystalmancy, in-blazery, ag-nightography) - Personal nounify the word.
(E.G. Crystalmancer, Inblazerifer, Agnightographer)
To create a new description, simply play with adjectives, real and fake:
(E.g. Mopp the Indecimal, Mopp the Insufferable, Mopp the Bloodiforious, Mopp the Expansional, Mopp the Intellectorious.)
Have fun naming your Asurans, bookahs!

(with no descriptor, but if I had one it would be Genuistical or Exceptionalatorius!)
It’s not fair jack, at the start of my Asura i went ingame 1st to check out the npc names and decided to name mine in similar fashion (1 name, starting with things like z etc) and in the end i went with “Zilori” (i think it sounds quite Asurian).
However, after reading that i really want “Zilori the Insufferable”.
I think i maybe tempted to pay some gems when the rename option comes out .
Zarturo: Elemental – Desolation.
My Asura Elementalist is named “Ploop the Didactic”. (I was trying to get just plain old “Ploop”, but somebody had already taken the name during BWE. He’s also pretty tired of bookahs calling him “Poop”. )
Ploop’s life-long dream is to write “Ploop’s Grande Bestiary – A comprehensive encyclopedic guide to the flora and fauna of Greater Tyria”. He will then lobby the Arcane Council to have it included as compulsory reading for the educational curriculum of progeny.
“My name will be famous as an indelible mark in the brains of all future asura! Mwaahahahaha!” – Ploop the Didactic, when quizzed by his friends about his reasons behind his ambition.
- Often they use a double consonant
- Female names end with i or a most likely
- They’re only one or two syllables long
- They have a hard consonant sound in the middle
- They often use some kind of honorific afterward to identify a krewe or college or some other form of prestige
- Asura that don’t conform to these rules were ridiculed as children
My Asura are Pyxxi & Pyxxa. I quite enjoy them.
Dangit, I wish Mopp the Insufferable would fit. Thanks, though.
My engineer’s name was based on ‘Gonzo the Great’ from the Muppets (whom in many ways has an Asura-like personality).
Therefore, I now have a character named Ghinzio the Great.
Feel free to make your title bragging or even over the top. The Fantastic/Amazing/Splendid/Genious/etc. make a great ‘last name’.
Tnekk and Fyrni! On a side note though, Take heed to the derision made of Kudu’s name during the storyline dungeons before you accidentally name your Male Asura something with a vowel.
Excelsior!

at this point getting decent names that are not already taken is not easy, so take what you like and be happy.
also remember, most people will refer to you as your character name so dont pick something you dont want to be called repeatedly.
My Female Asura Necromancer is Echo of Magpie Labs. If I could go back, she’d probably be Ekko to get the Asura pattern perfect, but I’m not broken up enough about it to pay for a rename token when they go up for sale, especially since she’s going Order of Whispers and the current spelling seems like a spy codename due to the US Military Phonetic Alphabet.
Magpie Labs stands for:
M ortiplasm
A ugmented
G olemancy
P aradigm
I nnovation
E nterprises
… but also sometimes:
M agically
A nimated
G houlems
P ulverize
I mbeciles,
E XCELSIOR!!!
As a Necromancer/Golemancer, she’s looking for the synthesis of the two disciplines, and calls her minions “Ghoulems”. She mainly named her Krewe after Magpies for four reasons:
1.) They are regarded as among the most intelligent of birds, which appeals to her Asuran ego.
2.) They are also notorious for stealing shiny things. Echo employs a small army of Skritt as lab help, for all the petty theft for golem parts. She’s also just a little bit vain about her appearance (rather than just her intellect, as is more typical), and wears a small fortune of occult jewelry.
3.) They are considered ill omens, much like other birds of the Corvidae family such as Ravens, Rooks and Crows. Since her reputation is pretty much guaranteed to be sinister as a Necromancer, she figures she may as well get some intimidation value.
4.) They aren’t quite as focused on carrion as a dietary staple as other Corvids, but are known to indulge. As Echo’s work involves a fair deal of dumpster-diving behind butcher shops and slaughter yards, and occasionally outright graverobbing, it seemed a good fit.

Haha. This. I named my ( what i thought would be at the time) alt Asura elementalist ‘Smaggle’ as I fell in love with my little Asura it become my main. I am now constatly referred to as Smaggle by my guild.
@Melchior: That’s a brilliant backstory! Absolutely love it.
I just gave her a two part name. Same with my Sylvari. It’s hard to get one word names, so two part seemed good. Hauntingmist, because she’s a necro. I wanted to change it after I heard the tutorial though. A line about something to do with chaos, so I wanted to call her Hauntingchaos.
I am having trouble gaining an adequate name for a female asura thief I’m going to make. I’ve been consulting a thesaurus and other sources. I’ve been permutating combinations and variances, making words into phonetic versions, etc. I haven’t really put in titles in either. I usually try for the root word, such as “Pilfer” and then funnel down from there toward phonetic spellings, anagrams, additions of titles, etc. I prefer the root first mostly as a nickname. I would imagine a thief would do best with a nickname or alias instead of a real name, just on principle. Seems strange to unite discretion with the asuran ego, but whatever. I’m just looking for idea fodder. It’s a lot like throwing darts, sometimes, and I wanna stockpile some ammunition to fire upon naming the character at the end of creation. Gotta have a handy list to make sure I only have to go through that once. I dislike waiting to the end, after all else is tailored to my liking, then spending time trying to nail a name I can live with. I know I can be picky.

Crap, now I almost want to add something creative to my Asura names. kitten you Meccal!
I hope the name I decided upon and managed to get meets with the Asuran Naming Council’s approval and blessing. “Glossy Lalia” is her name, which befits her mesmer profession and personality. Of course, the word “glossolalia” (look it up) was taken, but this slight modification seemed like an interesting mutation. “Glossy” might easily be a nickname-title for her actual name “Lalia.” I liked it. It seemed cute. Well, to me.
Imade a ranger asura named To Pazz. It’s two-words, but she was cute as a button, so she deserved it. I have since deleted her, but anybody can use that name if they’re so inclined. Another name I used was Tarjje, a Guardian asura, given that a “targe” is a type of shield (and is where the word target was derived from). Mix it up with common words with a twist here and there, it really works.
Hi, since the launch day I played an asura (now I have 3, two 80 and one low lvl), I always felt that my name (Betoxico) was not right to the lore, and thanks to all the comments here and with the chance to change names, I have a better idea for name and title for all my current and future asura.
From Betoxico to “Btoxx Btox Krew”. I´m not in the US, question: Do I have to add “member” or its fine as “Btox Krew”?
Thanks =).
I wish the golem suit was better, I named mine Bannakaffalatta. I wanted to go around shouting “Bannakaffalatta Proud! Bannakaffalatta Cyborg!” and dropping the mech-suit down. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
If you’re still having trouble, start playing a random Asura. Listen to them talk a bit and then imagine if you would be okay with your Asura introducing themselves with that name in that voice.
