Thief vs. Warrior
lorewise, i think either is the same,
gameplaywise, i have an asura thief and its a visual joy to see such a small fella moving around so quickly. It makes all other character combo looks downright slow.
Alright, thanks for the response! Lorewise though, what would the approach be; that they use technology to increase physical attributes, go invisible, etc?
Asura are magical and technological loving. They’re a bit individualistic and egotistical, viewing themselves as the smartest and thus top race. As said in Eye of the North, get three asura in a room and you’ll have four opinions. They prefer to be the brains behind operations and, more often than not, let others do the dirty work. Though they don’t mind having some risk to learning and experimenting.
In general Asura simply a very “brains over brawn” race. So they tends toward to magically advanced professions. Most common professions among Asura are elementalists and mesmers. Guardians can be seen often too (a.k.a. Peacemakers). Maybe even some engineers.
Player can choose any profession with any race combination of course but lore-wise warrior doesn’t suits to Asura at all, IMHO.
Thiefs? I don’t see it. But meh, maybe. I saw some pirate Asura npcs in game. They might be thiefs but if they are, it’s still odd and rare profession for an Asura.
But these shouldn’t stop you to make whatever profession you want. You can create a very different and eccentric background for your characters. Even if you choose to be a warrior, you can think of him as a “fight smarter, not harder” kinda Asura.

Heh, Warrior fits. Peacemakers and Efut immediately come to mind. Ironically, my
Asura are Thief and Warrior. The idea goes as follows: respectively, you’re dealing
with a “Corporate Espionage” agent, and a vat-grown killing machine. Any race with
Asura-level (magi)tech can definitely get away with either idea.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Keep in mind that thieves are actually magicians.
They practice Denial Magic, the same kind as Mesmers.
Seems fitting to me, as anything with magic does on Asura.
I like the idea of Asura warriors, though. A miniature Adam Jensen with takedowns to boot comes to mind.
One must admit some of the medium armor choices are just adorable on Asura. I’m still swooning over that mini-cowboy Asura pic in the cutest thread…
Asuran society is a pretty cutthroat society. It has it’s own theives and warriors. So both will fit in lore.
On how they utilize them: A-Net had this to say about their use of rifles: The asura use them, but usually in combination with arcane aiming and reload systems of their own devising. http://ashenfold.com/ashenfold-cartel-interview-with-jeff-grubb-and-eric-flannum/
So the sky’s really the limit with how you implement them. Enhanced armor/ weapons/elixers/magitech/etc.
@Sahfur
Sure. Thief/Mesmer/DD Ele are treated “special.” And that’s why: Ele healing ate a PvP nerf, Stealth is eating a nerf soon, and Mesmers have the crappiest Out-of-Combat speed in game – next to Guardian.
There’s no reason to clutter up a “which class should I play?” thread with that kinda hate. Relax a bit.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I have a friend who has an Asura in full T3 cultural armor, which looks like power armor so it’s entirely possible lore-wise for an Asura to be a warrior utilizing magical technology to augment their weapons and armor. Asuran thieves I can believe lore-wise with their blinding powder / access to tech that turns them invis.

He’s got a case of the mads, pay no attention to him.
I’d say warrior just because the heavy Cultural Tier 3 looks extremely awesome.
However, as it has been said, both work just as well.
I’d just like to point out that last time I checked, Asura dodging in a Thief didn’t give that really nice shadow effect that other races have. While Asura dodging is very cool indeed, the Thief dodging is, well, exclusive to Thieves, and so I think that being a Thief of another race would be cooler. An Asura warrior will have the same super awesome asura dodge animation, but as a Thief you are missing a nice animation exclusive to the class.
Hey all, I’m planning my Asura character atm, and am wondering, which seems to fit with the lore more, thief or warrior? I am wondering if anyone else has any ideas as to how they would fit in the lore, such as strength enhancement tech for the warrior, etc. Thanks much in advance!
Thief!
Thief seems to be Asura-like. Deception, trickanery, sneakiness.
However, Asura look awesome in heavy armor and just good in medium duds.
My opinion…make one of each.

I love playing my female asuran hammer Warrior. When combined with the Warrior signet that increases the refill rate of my endurance, my character is constantly dodge flipping through the air and leaping up to hit people in the face with my little sledgehammer.
