Thought I'd love it
some people i have talked to don’t like metrca so just go to one of the other starting zones and you will probably like it better. personally I LOVE everything Asura so I am not having that problem.
Maybe you don’t like solving the puzzles?
This race is all about science and Labs and Education.
Maybe it’s that aspect of it you don’t like.

Formerly. It sadly went downhill very fast over there after launch with Wow fanboys deciding their best Wow defence was a strong GW2 trolling offensive.

Awe. At least we have (nearly) full official forums, now. “Willowe” from MMO Champion, btw.
…we need to start bugging ANet for some server forums…
Love the Asura, hate Metrica.
Try another zone, it’s what I did.
I love the Asura animations, the characteristics, the cute little nuances. (my favorite is gaining a Might boon, makes me laugh every time.)
However, and this may just be the personal story branches I’ve taken so YMMV, but I don’t like the character choices that the Personal Story pigeonholes you into. They don’t fit my characters personality at all.
Possible personal story spoilersWhen Zojja recommends that I not talk to the weasel assistant, and then I blatantly go off and follow every stupid suggestion that guy comes up with, and have no option for an alternate character route... I was annoyed by this, though it was cool seeing myself as supreme ruler of the universe.
So I love the asuran race for being unique. They sort of have an Invader Zim vibe to them, and you can’t go wrong there, if only I could fashion a Gir golem mini pet…

Ozymandias – I agree, that was super annoying. I was all, what? My character is AGREEING to this? Why?! Thus far I haven’t seen the same kind of storyline variety for asura as the other races, and that really makes me sad. It wouldn't even be too hard to arrange, either. Just have our character say "lol nope" and then join Zojja when she shuts Shodd down.

Infinity Ball :\
I went that on my current character.
I have 3 Asura so far, and they’re all great fun. But that one moment with the Infinity Ball made me question things a bit.
Val-A Golem and Weather Machine are great story arcs though =D
The Infinity Ball is the least fun of them.
I’ve done Metrica twice now, and while I don’t mind it (enjoyed it the first time around), it does get old.
But this is why we have gates to Lions Arc in our main cities. So we can shift areas. Sure, your story stays back in Metrica, but no big deal. Personally I keep leaving my personal story until level 30ish anyways, when it’s a nice lump of exp.
Nah my problem is that i want ALL my alts\classes to be able to be an Asura, but the problem there is that there only is 3 different story lines kinda, so then no new story if i make more than 3 asuras :P

I feel your pain. I almost made all eight of my characters Asuren, instead I did 3 my main and then made the other two different armor classes so i could all the cool looking armor sets!
Ozymandias, Tyroki, I found the same moment in the Infinity Ball story perplexing and disappointing. When it happened I felt strongly that my character wanted to say “No way! Get away from me, I want nothing to do with you and your shoddy ideas.”
However, I love the Asura. I originally planned to just have one, now I’m trying not to make all my characters Asura! I really enjoy Metrica and the starting zone. I enjoy the cut scenes. I like that the females look like the males and don’t wear absurd frilly and revealing armor. I enjoy all the details of the NPCs and they stuff they talk about and do — DEL-X99 is one of my favorite NPCs anywhere. Rata Sum is possibly my favorite city: obviously, the Asura win for elegance of design in city planning. They’re adorable, snarky, zany, and they’re a lot of fun to play. I’m kind of neutral on the Engineering class… I don’t love it or hate it so far.

Funny, I’m in the opposite boat. I tried the other four races before ever trying Asura. 50 levels later, I’ve decided to just delete the others who came before and go “All Azura, All the Time!”
I liked Metrica Province. The Sylvari noobzone is also pretty sweet. The others just weren’t to my liking – especially the Charr. I wasn’t feeling that at all.
Genius
I agree Ozymandias. I did not want to help him, I had no reason to trust him and plenty reason to trust Zojja.
the light! And if we dance, until the heart explodes,
It’ll make this place ignite!
Yeah, well it wa stupid to follow him, but…the resulting story was so insanely funny! I loved that. Personally, I wouldn’t have listened to him either, but I was able to explain it away with that asuran quirk that they all want to be the best, cleverest genius of all

Just wondering if anyone else felt this way. I was excited to make the Asura, I made a Engineer.
I love my Human Ranger – Norn Warrior – Salvari elemantalist and my Charr Thief
Not enjoying my Asura at all. I love the look of it, favourite of all of them but just not enjoying.
can it be the race quests, zone or is it the engineer profession. Anyone else find this
Huh… Uau, we have the exact same race/profession combinations.
We’re not unique snowflakes after all
Didn’t have a problem liking my Asura. I did have a problem enjoying Engineer.
I completely understand and agree with your enthusiasm
My “main” character is a little-lovely-kitten Asura O I love their sarcasm! Dialogues are great, especially with Zojja. Really funny!
And have you seen the progeny? So cute!

I have to agree with you on this. My original intent was one of each race. Um, yeah, that didn’t work out well >.< I have 4 Asura’s now, 1 Norn & 1 Charr (both that I’m trying really really hard not to reroll to Asura’s).
There have been times when one of my Asura’s volunteered something in her storyline and I’m sitting here going…Hey!! Don’t do that!! lol
But they are awesome & I know I will end up rerolling the others…/sighs and laughs
Me too and then I was stopped from playing.
My Asura is my alter-ego.
“And also… I can kill you with my brain.”

I have the opposite problem. After playing an asura engineer as my first character, I found the other races a little lackluster. Everything asuran is just so smartly written and has the perfect tongue-in-cheek tone, I was disappointed particularly with norn and human having such generic plots and dialogue.
All in all, being an asura was the best choice I ever made, and I often need to convince myself to stop at two asuran characters for diversity’s sake.
And I could stay in Metrica Province forever.

OMG… is that Brain’s voice actor?!
“What are we going to do tonight, Brain?”
“The same thing we do every night, Pinky…”
“Scold the Bookahs!”

My first choice was Asura elementalist. Now all my characters are Asura.
I’ve liked everything so far, the animation, the sarcasm, the personal storylines…
It’s kitten awesome.
… or is it the engineer profession. …
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was an engineer problem.
1. Check the Engineer forum. It’s a whine-fest. It’s still my favorite profession, my highest level character is an Asura engineer. But …
2. They are late bloomers. Engineers get a lot, lot better once you can trait them properly; until then, it’s a bit of a slog. I didn’t really find mine to be fun until I got into the mid 20s, and not really fun until the mid 30s. Once I got it above about 50, it became more fun than the law allows in PvE and still pretty fun in WvW.
3. It may also take you a lot of screwing around to figure out how you want to play it. P/P doesn’t play much like P/S doesn’t play much like R, but that’s not all that different from any other profession. What is different is that everything you put on your utility bar does at least two, and maybe as many as seven or eight, things, and figuring out which combination of those things, in what order, placed under what keys, will be the one that you find enjoyable? It’s time consuming.
I’d offer specific advice, but that could be thread-jacking; ask for beginner engineer builds over in the engineer forum, see if they can’t help you pick a setup that’s more fun for you.
(Can’t be bothered? This may be the easiest cheap skillpoint build I can come up with. Grab Healing Turret early because your F1 toolkit becomes a nice long-duration insta-cast AoE regen power even when the turret isn’t up. Grab dual glyphic pistols and get in the habit of opening at melee range with the blowtorch, static shot, poison dart volley and watch one target per fight simply evaporate. Grab Flame Turret even if you seldom use it just for the lovely flame grenade it puts on your toolbelt; grab the Rifle Turret if you spend a lot of time underwater, to do things like distract adds or champs. Grab the Grenade Kit and switch to it the second you get swarmed by more than 2 targets. Pick any other 1 point skill for the remaining utility slot, anything that seems fun; early on, I’m partial to Elixir B. Keep in mind that this is not the only way to play a low level Engineer, it’s just the one that I found fun. Keep swapping your utility skills and every time you do, make sure you experiment with both the skill and the toolbelt power.)
P.S. Looking over your list of your other 4 characters, if it is an engineer problem and you absolutely cannot find an engineer build that suits you? You might not think so, but make a sword & torch guardian. (I carry scepter & focus as my backup weapon for ranged-only problems.) Watch enemies disintegrate. Watch your health bar basically never move. Watch your feet almost never touch the ground. It’s wonderful. It’s hilarious.
(Now if only there were non-racial heavy armor that really looked good on an Asura. Crafted chain is okay, crafted scale is pretty good, but everything between there and the racial armor is kind of meh.)
The Vigil set is adorable on Asura.
It’s like a little kid dressing up as a Roman soldier for Halloween!
D’aaaaaww….
