Just about to hit lvl 30 and get my first elite skill. But I’ve read that Engi elites are kinda lame. Are the the Asuran elites better or worth using over the Engi elites?

Use offensive golem. I have 2 asura soldiers and it rocks for solo.

I use Supply Crate. I will use Elixir X if I want to goof around, and I will use the offensive golem if the group I am with is running smooth enough not to need an oh kitten button.

Supply crate; the asura racial elites are pretty lacklustre. Offensive golem blows, golem armour is a joke. Defensive golem is pretty good but is second-tier elite so you can’t buy it right off the bat anyway.

Supply crate is the most versatile and effective engineer elite in 90% of situations.

Another voice for Supply Crate. You should use it 99% of the time when youn’t goofing around.

When you want to have fun, use Elixir X. When you are in a situation in which you need a field for pushing back enemy projectiles, go for D-Golem. When you are fighting a boss and it’d destroy all your turrents from Crate in a second, use attacking Golem since it hits from a distance.

Never use the armor unless you are roleplaying.

Thanks everyone. General concensus is Supply Crate is the best, Elixir X is quite good but situational, and the golems are…fair. And golem suit is crap.

Golem suit is crap – doesn’t have the hit points to justify its lousy damage output. I mostly use the Defensive Golem for the extra shielding and to tank for me if I’m about to be downed, but there are times I switch to Supply Crate just to stun a metric kitten-ton of mobs at once so I can run in somewhere and run back out.

Elixer X does have a nice option for a bit of control capability. Though it is random chance for it though, you either get to be an immovable object that can knock someone over with 4 different attacks. Or you get to be a giant tornado that constantly does knockback effects and you can then buff them for other abilities.

The Supply crate is good for general helping out of a bad situation, as it drops Med kits that anyone can use and also a few turrets one of which is a healing turret. So not a bad supporting elite to have.

The Golems are tailored to your play style really. If you like doing alot of damage then you’ll need to go with the attack golem as it is able to hit from range. If you want a more defensive and survivable game you want the defense golem as it’s got a nice anti projectile shield that appears when it spawns and throws out a couple more times during it’s run.

The Golem suit is kinda fun to be in, but does need a bit more tweaking by the devs to make it a more viable option. Least that’s what I think, it hasn’t really helped me so far but I am an engineer. Don’t know what it would do if given to a Warrior though >_>

Pretty much just to echo what everyone else is saying..

Supply crate is actually a pretty decent elite skill. AoE stun, with some continuing presence. It can really, really come in handy.

The other I like, on any class, is the D-Series Golem (defensive one). Most important part about this is that the golem lays down Shield of Absorption, which is a light field. If you dont know about combos, etc, the light field can be used like so:

Offensive golem is “ok.” It does decent enough damage. I would much rather have the combo field though.

Golem suit is terrible in combat. Though, I think its kind of neat to “wear” every once in a while. ETA: Also wanted to add that its possible to “fake” a golem rush in WvW with a bunch of Asura. Dont use real golems so there isnt a direct reference, and get ~10 players to rush someones garrison. Usually gets some good attention so you can move most of your other forces elsewhere unimpeded. Dont expect to live though.

I experimented with the Golems while I leveled – I’m an Asura, what’d you expect?
But the Supply Crate is an overall superior elite, which is why it’s pretty much the only elite you’ll see Eng’s using. Learn to use the Supply Crate and it will be your friend.

Tip for the day: Supply Crate is a blast finisher; drop in on top of a friendly combo field for the added combo effect.

So I got Supply Crate. You’re right, it’s pretty sweet.

Now…should I save up 30 skill points to get D-Golem next or just use 10 and get Elixir X?

Or should I just finish unlocking my other non-elite utilities first (what I’m leaning towards)?

Offense Golem on land, Supply Crate in the water. I personally, refer to m y golem as Mrs. Sparkles.

I only we could name our elite Golems.

Are there any races with truly good elites? No. And every race has a “summon x” elite (Norn get the non-elite wurm). We get the benefit of deciding if we want an offensive or defensive summoned ally.

Plus, Asura have great non-elite racial skills.

For an Engineer, I’d also pick the Supply Crate. It’s not very fancy, but it’s very effective. While I don’t like the offensive golem for my tanky asura Warrior, they might work well for an Engineer.

Actually the elite that I’m most tempted to use on an asura Engineer is the Mistfire Wolf skill from the Deluxe Edition upgrade. The wolf summons a very nice AoE continual damage effect once per summoning and can actually take some hits. However the problem with the skill is that the Mistfire’s target(s) have to be holding relatively still for the AoE to do its damage. My own Engineer is constantly moving and leaping all over, so the Mistfire would be wasted on my character build.
