it’s the animations for a lot of people.

There was an asura warrior in Sea of Sorrows. He was burly for his people and he fought smart with a hammer. So they don’t all need to be over-powering to win. Especially if they use other weapons like swords and rifles.

Asura warriors can use guns and many of the guns are themed to be energy weapons or otherwise look like future tech. Scarlets rainbow is even a full hologram.

It’s like being a starship trooper!

Also the Asura heavy cultural armor is amazing looking but I think it’s mainly the animations and aesthetics.

it’s the animations for a lot of people.

Basically this. If you’re trying to min-max in PvE, unless you’re running Mesmer or Elementalist, you want to go Human for HoB.

Actually, Warrior and Engineer don’t benefit too much from HoB, depending on the situation. (Signet of Rage and Supply Drop can be helpful, although it really depends.)

Other than HoB, other notable racial skills are (not looking at Engineer profession mechanics):

Become the Bear (Norn) for large mobility and pretend FGS Fiery Rush (also Snow Leopard, but not quite as good as Bear).

Take Root (Sylvari) if you need a breather. Also seed turrets are fun.

Hidden Pistol (Charr) situational, but basically a free evade on a 15 second cooldown can help certain professions in very specific scenarios.

Again, these are all for PvE Power scenarios and/or soloing hard fights.

For Engineer, your racial skills basically become useful with the toolbelt effectively doubling the effect (and also providing an AoE version with an added bonus).

The reasons why HoB are the “go-to” racial skill is because most of the time your elite won’t make a significant damage boost as opposed to two summons.

Buuuuuut, at the end of the day, it really is all about looks. People have given up the “HoB stacking speedrun” mentality for the solo cookie cutter builds. As a Warrior, you’re bound to be running Signet of Rage 24/7 which is fine.

I wondered about this… but doesn’t the rifle/pistol still make “bullet” sounds? It would be amazing if the warrior rifle skill sounds were consistent with the skins, so a lazer zap for AA instead of a bullet shot, etc.

If it were, I’d be all over this and create both Engi and Warrior characters with futuristic themes.

Lasers shouldn’t make any sound at all. So any sound that is made can be chalked up to any other piece of technology in the gun that helps it function.

If you’re making a general point about how laser sounds should be conveyed in popular culture, sci-fi mediums, etc., that’s fine, but I and most people are used to “laser sounds”. At the very least, sci-fi pistols should not be making “bullet” sounds!

This is very intriguing; apparently the new ley line pistols do make new sounds. Woot!

I’m making a point about how lasers actually do sound IRL.

My asura warrior started out as a krewe technician until brain damage from an accident cost her the ability to read and write. Zuulja was then "volunteered" into a professional test subject position involving different mixes of combat stims and performance enhancing drugs. They keep so happy that she doesn’t really notice any of the resulting bloodlust, anger issues, or inability to speak coherently or perform simple math.

There shouldn’t be any sound in space battles either, but can you imagine how boring space battles in movies/games would be if there was no sound at all? :P

Sure. But we can get around all that with sound effects from inside the space ship from mecvhanics that allow those lasers to workas I said, and soundtrachk from the outside of the ship but does that change the fact that lasers or sound in space is a Hollywood invention? Should we all have to strictly adhere to Hollywood steriotypes and inventions? We might as well keep all actors Caucasian, all Polynesians as invented steriotypical Hawaiians and all primitive tribes portrayed as savages who are something between animals and real people.

I love my guardy Asuras because they’re the smallest they can be, and defy logic…beating the living daylights out of foes. It’s also awesome how their tiny little selves can provide stabilization from knockdowns and break off fear attacks for her and those around her. Not to mention giving aegis and removing conditions for others.

It’s the fact that something so small and insignificant in the eyes of other races, could be such powerhouses and very important in Tyria.

For me it was the armour:

My lord, that looks way better on a heavier character. My Guard is the thinnest possible and the T3 looks really bad, but it looks amazing on your character.

As for why Asuran Warrs/Guards are popular, it’s because they’re awesome, simple as that.
