I have mained an asura thief since launched, and since have seen both reasons to, and not to play an asura. Why did you make yours?

because I’m a sucker for the “tech” race and asura offered “magitek” with some awesome design aesthetics. The architecture really did lock the choice in for me. After all why wouldn’t you play the race whose capital has a floating cube above it?
They just had the most appeal to me. The way I see it (and this is my highly personal opinion, so no need to bash me for it), humans are very generic, norn are just cheaply made vikings, sylvari has little to carry them beyond the “I’m so curious and cute” schtick, and charr are just warmongerers whose speech literally gives me headaches in too large doses. That left the asura, who in my opinion pull off the snarky better-than-you routine better than any other game (lore) community so far. They know they’re better than you, they have diagrams to show it, and they won’t hesitate to rub it in your face – and their entire culture is built around this. That’s one of the many, many things I’ve come to love about the asura.
Currently, I have one sylvari, two humans, and five asura.
Because I WvW a lot and I learned in FPS games there’s nothing more annoying than being killed by an annoying toon. So I’m Stinky Stink the Asura with pink hair and a top pony tail and pink clothes and I laugh like a hyena when I kill someone.

Lmfao, this is very, very true.
I have maimed an asura thief

OH GOD HOW COULD YOU!
on topic i mained one because of this~
Human seemed a too-obvious choice to me, wanted to not start with that. And honestly, Norn seemed like just tall, Nordic humans- almost a cop-out. Sybaritic seemed interesting lore wise, as did charr, but didn’t fit quite right. Asura seemed it would stand out the least in a crowd, and fit pretty well for an intellectual character (I knew I would be making an engineer)- so I went with that.
Because I find them awesome and cute, imo probably the coolest race I have seen in any RPG, I have 3 asura’s, including my main and then 1 of each other race.
Why did you pick an asura?
My progenitors discovered that love was the simultaneous utilization of biology, chemistry and physics.
Originally, when Guild Wars 2 was released I made a human elementalist but only got him to level 7 before growing bored and moving on to other games.
Then, about two weeks ago I remembered I had Guild Wars 2 installed. So I opened it up, let it patch, and decided that I would mess around and make a new character.
I’m not sure exactly why I picked an Asura but I think it’s mostly because their race seemed quirky and interesting. After messing around a bit I finally finished my character. That was about as far as I planned to go but now that I had actually created a new character, I had to at least log in and do the initial starter mission.
From there I was sucked in by their entire whole mad scientist race of crazy geniuses.
Experiment accidentally mauls a few people? That’s progress!
We’re not mad or crazy. That’s only some members of the Inquest.
I always hated playing behind huge characters in the games I play. Figured it would give me more space to see the world around than some giant norn.
I decided on Asura (after trying the other races) mainly because of their attitudes, speech, and hilarious movements. Plus, the Necro I made just looks mean! And, like the previously stated, I like being that annoying little toon that destroys in pvp. (Only a week old here so i haven’t ventured into WvW yet.)
Vekk.
Back in GW1 EoTN I loved that one of the first Asura was voiced by the guy who voices Brain. Since I loved Pinky and the Brain, his works, and he played a small super genius with no bedside manner, I loved the Asura naturally.
I was going to make one of every race, but I knew he was going to at least be the third I made (human first, Sylvari second). So out came Dante Dominus, my Domination Mesmer Asura who loves controlling your energy in the most efficient manner possible.
I’ve beaten you. You just don’t know it yet.
We’re not mad or crazy. That’s only some members of the Inquest.
“I get the feeling someone’s been sneaking through my lab.”
“Has anything turned up missing?”
“No. But every morning, my lab notes are one micrometer left of center.”
“That is pretty suspicious…”
I made an Asura because I adore mad scientists. Especially the ones who think they’re sane and serious, and especially if you can, you know, use part of an orphan in an experiment and not necessarily notice the problem. Which is definitely more the Inquest, but is not JUST the Inquest.
norn are just cheaply made vikings,
My wife would object to that as a Scandinavian historian – they’re surprisingly well done vikings. But they are also still vikings.

The reason I made an Asura is that I love their dialogue.
I simply couldn’t resist making something really small and cute, but able to scare the bravest Norn away the moment he opens his mouth.
Another reason is that I really like their animations, especially their jumping.
I at first was all in on Asura, but when I made a Human Thief just to try it out, the weapon size really appealed to me on the human and I dropped Asura since.. I’ve been re-rolling since Beta pretty much and I settled on an Engineer a while ago. I highly disliked guns so I used the small weapon scaling that the Asura has to my advantage. I also don’t see any other race as an Engineer. Asuras cultural armor is perfect for an engineer, they are the magitech type which is good for me as I hate playing tech classes. The magitech thing kind of fixes it for me. And hell, it’s an ASURA! lol. They’re my 2nd favorite thing next to Ettins in GW2.. Just love all the anims, the voice acting ect.. Cheers!
I love their attitude and how they tax everyone thru the use of their gates and wp. Despite their size, they seem to command more authority over other races.
Mainly because they make me feel like i’m running faster than the other races…even though i’m not. I’d take a speedy little asura over a bulky slow norn anyday
With my original 5 slots, I was planning to make one of each race, but then I had ideas for both a Male and Female Human, and Asura was the race that got the cut to make room.
I fixed that as soon as the Gem Store went live. My two Asura are twin siblings, the Geniuses of MAGPIE Labs (Mortiplasm Augmented Golemancy Paradigm Innovation Enterprises. Alternately My Awesome Golems Pulverise Imbeciles, EXCELSIOR!), yet another set of claimants to being the heirs of Oola in the field of Necro-Golemancy. They share a dark secret though – with their genius combined, they are capable of matching intellects with any competitors. But taken individually, they are each massively deficient in core areas of Asura training. Ekko (Engineer) is a mechanical genius, but she can’t wrangle a single spark of Magic without using a well-documented blueprint for an existing device. Zigg (Necromancer) is a savant with an almost shamanic intuitive grasp of Necromantic magic, but his quixotic nature leaves him often out of touch with the material world, and he can barely muster the technical acumen to understand a doorknob.
In the event that a third Heavy Armor class is released, I will make two individuals of that class, as I have with all others, and one of them will be a Female Asura of the College of Statics, and the Durmand Priory (since Zigg and Ekko have the other colleges and orders covered).

1. Their animations (it’s all so adorably over-exaggerated)
2. Their voice acting (“And now! To destroy you!”)
3. Their ears <3
Because Vekk was awesome
Let’s start with this: I do have characters for all races. But Asurans are first on my list of likable characters (Charr are a close second).
First of all the reasons Zaxares mentioned.
But I also love their racial mentality. Their “I’m better than you are, you are simply dumb” is just awesome. And very well incorporated into the game too.
And did I mention their animations and ears?
My first cheracter was an Asura, but the problem was I didn’t like the zone look, or the story. My main is a human because of this but i do have a level 20 Asura Theif
I’m a cat person, and they remind me of cats.
For me it was the animations… I remember seeing them play an Asuran Guardian, running around Sparkfly Fen in one of the early pre-release streams or videos… Everything about the way they move, carry their weapons etc… it was great! After seeing that I knew it was the race for me.
My computer was so thrash at the time, that Asura, being the smallest, (and less complicated model imo) saved me a few fps.
Also, I think they have really great and dynamic animations.Really.
Animations and voice acting on the female asura, both of which I feel are the best in the game.
I have one female asura of each class. I can’t stand the male asura voice, it grates on me.
When I looked through the class descriptions, I decided I wanted to play an engineer first. Once I decided that, I read through the race descriptions for the one that fit my character concept best, and it was Asura.
The first reason was the infinite amounts of snark. The second is the recognition that the Asura are all geniuses, and that appealed to my concept for my engineer. Third was my impression of the other races.
Human: Generic, not where I wanted to go with my Engineer.
Charr: Fun concept but more of a heavy type (I love running my Charr Guardian, though).
Norn: Vikings aren’t engineers.
Sylvari: I hate elves.
I got trapped by my guild mates playing an Asura guardian. It ended up I played an asura guardian as well..
I spent much gold on T3 cultural T.T
It’s the teeth.
They’re adorable and their dance is just awesome.
Plus, when using a rifle with an engineer, you get knocked back for one of your attacks. It’s probably one of the funniest attacks ever.
Because retaliation was op in wvw at release. 800+ DMg per hit and instakilled siege. But what was i thinking, someone making race choice important in a mmo. IT was nerfed a few months after release and now i wish i had a race change.
Playing Yoda is awesome ;3
Especially with a team of Yoda Midgets C’:
because theyre small.
1. Their animations (it’s all so adorably over-exaggerated)
2. Their voice acting (“And now! To destroy you!”)
3. Their ears <3
Precisely this.
I was watching a GW2 stream and an Asura was goofing around while the streamer was waiting in LA. I decided there and then that I wanted to play GW2 so went and bought the game.
If I was going to make any class an engineer it was going to be the super0intelligent asurans.
As for mesmer, well the smaller race would be best.
Well I decided to make the cutest character possible and have her be a warrior. I called her Totally Harmless, looks cute and friendly but she will utterly destroy you
When I played GW1 Vekk was my favorite character and I was really excited that in GW2 we get to play as Asura. Signed up for the beta the day the option was available and it was LOVE.
And of course…SCIENCE!
It isn’t really my favorite race lore-wise, but they do certainly have great and funny dialogues. Also, I find it a good race gameplay-wise solely because of how small they are and how it feels like you’re running super fast
Couldn’t tell you. Just decided that I wanted one and made it.
i have not prepare to change . The ranger is my favrious at persent.
Being a short person IRL it just seemed natural to me plus I play ranger and it feels like I have gigantic pets
Because they are so cute! Only down side for me is that the weapons are really tiny
Because asura have the best potential to be and act funny, while also being quite menacing. Those teeth…and the 8 feet tall golem behind them…
Yet when they start to laugh maniacly at your demise, you cant help but go “aaaaww.. So cute!”
When I make asura characters, it’s because I want the tactical advantage they offer. They are harder to pick out of a group, harder to read the animations of. In WvW they have a huge advantage over the other races.
I also like the race for their look, but I am very disappointed with how all their armors fit and look.
There’s so many reasons that I chose the Asura. Their attitude, their cute evilness, the maniacal laugh, the animations, their constant curiosity and thirst for more knowledge… I could go all night.
Because they are small, smug creatures that are just surperior to everything.
Coming to the game with no prior experience with Guild Wars, I thought they were just going to be another wacky cutesy comic relief race.
Then I saw the teeth.
Unlike some takes I’ve seen on the theme, asura have believable importance in the world. Bit by bit, they’re using their incredible technology and lack of ethics to establish a stranglehold on mainland Tyria, and now all the organized races are dependent on them.
Plus, it’s fun to see where their scheming leads. When I hopped into the Super Adventure Box, I sure wasn’t expected to be manipulated into exacting revenge on Moto’s former workmates.
I never played GuildWars 1. Looking over GuildWars 2, Charr where the first to catch my eye, since I´m being a Gamer and a Fur as well.
I would never play humans or anything coming close to this.
When it came to Beta, I startet an Asura, because my Boyfriend already had startet a Charr and we wanted to try different races. I fell in love with the little ones.
Now I got five Asura and three Charr that I´m playing.
Asura made it, which I never would have expected.
