Allow each character to pick voices, these voices allow the toon to say different things, and have different voice actors saying them in combat, the mood of the voices sets this as well.
This is kind of an idea from everquest…
- Cheerful “We will win for sure!”
- Righteous/Valorous “Remember %T!!” “Save everyone!”
- Vengeance “I’ll Butcher you…just like you’ve butchered my kin!” “Cleave them in two!”
- Sinister “Fool, out of the way!” “Your wasting my time.”
- Brute “HEH! You dink yew can beat meh!”
- Insane “Hahaahah!” “DIE DIE DIE DIE!” (laughing like a madman!)
- Flirty “Your cute… but out of my way!”
- Sly “You can’t touch me…”
- Tranquil “We must fight for peace.” (very very quiet and calm.)
- Noble/Snooty “Follow me, peasants!”
- Intellectual/Genius “I’ve no time for this, I’ve things to study!”
It doesn’t have to be set to race, there can be racial ones and multiple races can have some of them.
For example… “I’m Gaining Adrenaline!”
- Cheerful “For some reason everything seems fuzzy!”
- Righteous/Valorous “I’m gaining adrenaline!” (current.)
- Vengeance “My hate fuels me!”
- Sinister “My Power is growing…”
- Brute “STOP RUNNIN SO I CAN HIT YEW!”
- Insane "*insane laughing* (laughing like a madman!)
- Flirty “Unguard!”
- Sly “I’ll finish this quickly!”
- Tranquil “breathing exercises” (very very quiet and calm.)
- Noble/Snooty “I feel more powerful!”
- Intellectual/Genius “I see a weakness!”

Neverwinter Nights did this as well. It was cool and I would like it. Differentiates my characters and helps create their personalities.
Dragon Age: Origins did a pretty good job with this too. I loved the angry voice: “Can I get you a ladder… so you can get off my back?”
Would be pretty cool.
As it has been mentioned already, Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age: Origins both had that feature, it was great indeed.
In Guild Wars 2 it would fit very well since there is a personality system (albeit rather minimal) in the game. If a player knows during the character creation screen that his/her new Norn [insert class name here] would have to be charismatic, he then could select the “appropriate” fitting charismatic voice style and later in the game increase charisma points for his character’s personality.
With this said, however, it does require new voice acting even if it would all be done in just a week. The developers would have to contact the voice actors and actresses again to record that new audio. I don’t think that paying them would be a problem though, but I think that they might not be available all at once.
So the developers might have to record some new voices here and there whenever the actors are available, which would mean that we’d have to wait quite some time potentially until we’d see something like that happen. But I would like to see (or rather hear) that happen in Guild Wars 2, regardless of the amount of time it would take to see an update like that, it’d be neat.
You can use the same voice actor for every race, just have him say different things differently, even I can do voice impressions.
Is there gonna be any option like this anytime soon?
I am so behind this idea..it would be awesome if this was implemented.
Yes! I sometimes turn my characters’ combat voices OFF because I feel like the expressions simply don’t match my idea of them. This would be an awesome feature.
I’ve always been a fan of selectable voice sets in RPG, so I approve of this idea.
I need something softer and cuter for my females. The female humans are too deep.
I would love to switch all my male char sound clips to male sylvari’s, he sounds so posh! cant get enough of him.
I would love this. Right now my male mesmer sounds far to aggressive and manly. I would like to give him a more arrogant and fanciful voice to match his personality/appearance. Sadly, I do not foresee something like this happening since, you know, priorities and all that.
