Not sure if this is just me, but when I am NOT in a cutscene, I rarely have the ability to hear what NPC’s are saying, unless I have my camera angle positioned exactly the right way. Otherwise it just sounds like they are mumbling. In a game where I want to be pulled into the story and encompassed by it, that aspect sure makes it difficult to become immersed.

Bump.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I have exactly the same problem. Furthermore, I experienced it on three different computers, meaning that its not a problem from my side. The problem existed in BWE1 and has not been fixed yet (yes, I have submitted multiple bug reports about this).

The problem seems to be that the listener viewpoint seems to be set to the current camera position and not to the player character. During cinematic cut-scenes, important NPC monologues are simply inaudible behind the ambient sound. Same thing for dynamic events – its often almost impossible to hear what the NPCs are saying. Solution would be very simple: drop the 3d sound for relevant NPCs and just add them to ambient for all players in an appropriate area.

I’m also having the problem. I’m using a Logitech G930 headset and I can’t hear the NPC’s when my camera is facing directly at them.
