TL;DR – Allow those with ascended crit damage pieces to choose new stats for that gear if they want to promote new specs and allow fairness for players who invested in gear that is changing.
I wanted to make a post in regards to the upcoming changes to crit damage: Please allow those who have ascended pieces with crit damage stats a one time option to change their gear to another set.
In my opinion, it was a rash move to make this change so shortly after introducing ascended armor, which requires a large amount of grinding/gold to obtain, plus the time and in-game resources for the ascended weapons and trinkets. It only seems fair to allow those of us who invested in Crit damage gear the opportunity to obtain other gear, since the rules have changed after the fact.
I know that for me personally, I chose between Zerker gear and another spec for my main spec in WvW, and ultimately chose zerker for the fun and challenge of it. If I knew the damage would be reduced by 10% at the time of this decision, I would have gone with a more defensive armor set up.
This may seem like a crazy idea to some. However, there is a precedent of this happening when magic find gear was changed, and magic find gear was allowed a one time choice of stats. I feel that the same is necessary on some level now, as I personally feel burned by spending time on obtaining this gear.
Additionally – and the reason I am posting this in the profession balance subforum – if a change of stats was permitted it would allow for those other types of play that this change is supposed to promote to immediately arise. Perhaps others would change their gear as well. Not all, maybe not many, but if there is to be diversity, you need to make it easier for the players and this would be a critical first step.
