An Idea to make stealth more fun.
I don’t think this would be a good idea as it would give too much of an edge against certain professions and weapons sets while giving barely any edge against others.
For example a mesmer would have really hard time against thieves because their skills are mostly target required and not ground targetable. Thief could basically just spam CnD near the mesmer until it dies while mesmer can only try to run away.
Then the other example, a warrior. Most of our melee weapon skills are button activated cleave skills that don’t require target at all. Thief couldn’t do much against barrage of cleave attacks like this, their primary defense would be nullified to nothing when against melee warrior and most other melee builds. You can’t really stand still either because if the enemy kept track where you moved they know exactly where you are standing still and your only wild card would be using shadowstep while standing still.
The stealth is mostly balanced atm apart from the fact that you don’t pop out of it if someone blocks or evades an attack
Mouggari – Warrior – Candy cane Avenger
This would maybe satisfy the sobbing crowd of bad players (but only for 5 minutes after the patch) but wouldn’t work.
People don’t get that not seeing you opponent is a L2P issue, but with your changes effects like shadow’s rejuvenation and shadow’s embrace would be way too powerful. And 2 backstabs/1.5 seconds would lead to a whole new level of thief hate.
Well the idea is that a player who pays attention can see a thief charging in for a backstab. If the thief tries to follow the player for backstab, he is easier to kite or dodge because they see something bulging in the air around them.
Also, the only class that would have a hard time vs this would be mesmer who really never should have a problem with thief if they back into a clone. This way clones eat the backstab. Pistol often can also be evaded by standing behind clones.
This makes it so thief has to think before charging into the fight a whole bunch while in stealth because if he keeps running after a player and missing backstabs, a player will know where he is eventually. However, once he stands still he won’t have the partial stealth but instead complete stealth. SB porting would be useful in this case to move around in complete stealth.
The enemy wont complain about seeing the thief because those who pay attention can kinda figure out what the thief is going to do while the thief can strategies confusing his enemy from the shadows via running around to get located and porting away from that location while standing still to vanish without a trace.
Maybe thief losing reveal warrants thief to drop stealth on block the players and balance team can decide.
i think, the problem with stealth for THIEF is that it hardly allows for effective counterplay. the fact that they have High mobility/stealth/Crazy damage is often too much on a “no recharge” class. solution? allows some type of counter play by modifying stealth itself. how? they are many ways to allow stealth to become more tactical .
1- make stealthed characters have a very slight blur while moving (as in stealthed units in Sc2). or at least some visual cues that, if a player is very careful, could pick up and use to locate the stealthed unit. while immobile, you are totally invincible.
2- maybe turn stealth into a boon, that way it could be removed by more skills.
3- make stealth to get cancelled when character takes a certain % of damage while in stealth.
or something like that…
:)

THIS PLEASE! I hate thieves spamming 1 while i block or evade. This should trigger a revealed debuff
Sounds like the Rogue in the game I used to play. Been playing GW2 (Never played 1) for a few months and I’m just now learning to love the GW2 COMPLETELY stealth mechanic. It was hard to get used to and I still don’t have an 80 of any Profession due to me swapping back to my Warrior (first toon) every time I die since it’s so easy. But I have a 64 Thief and I don’t think I’ve died in PvE since like 40 or so basically since I learned to evade which I never would’ve learned on my Warrior b/c it’s not needed while leveling. I have died a lot still but it was during the big Wurm world boss (still haven’t been with a group that even took one wurm down lol) and the queens gauntlet, boss blitz (actually didn’t die much during this while doing my job).
Anyway, I’m rambling. I do like permastealth and if you asked me a few months ago I’d take the WoW style stealth in a second but now I like the GW2 style better.
Again, I have NO 80’s so no endgame exp so excuse me if I’m talking out of my @$$ this is just my opinion in what I’ve experienced thus far.
P.S. Off topic, but as a whole, this game kicks the s#lt out of WoW and SWtoR imo but again, haven’t done endgame yet but storywise and leveling…thumbs up

Ok, thread closed. You just want thieves to be walking lootbags that don’t pose a threat to any class, no constructive discussion to be found here.
Protip: stealth doesn’t work the way you think it works. Play Thief yourself. That way, you will learn counters, QQ less and will notice how ba suggestions like revealed on block/hit are.
Have fun.

I actually do play thief, and I know how stealth works. I’m saying to remove reveal. Its a buff to the thief play style for burst and a nerf to sustained fights for over 10 minutes because brain dead stealth spamming wont achieve massive damage. A buff + a nerf = class rework (or a compromise.)

No revealed won’t achieve massive damage? What game are you playing? People could stealth-spam ridiculously easy without revealed. Any and all thieves would trade the complete invisibility for no revealed. It would be like in the good OP days.
