Best Regeneration profession/build?
Rangers can cleanse condi AoE, warriors’ support tend to be more structured around boons rather than condition removal. Guardians don’t use regen as much as they use an entirely different class mechanic.
If doing heal support guards are still overall best after traiting for symbols, but their personal survivability is somewhat lower. But heal support has nearly no place in PvE anyway, it’s more of a zerg WvW thing.
In terms of sheer regen Ranger reigns supreme in sheer numbers
Warrior is a strong second place while guardian is bottom in terms of regeneration.
Ranger group regen: 755 (also affect self)
Ranger Self Regen: 554.5 permanent, 1565.5 spike (with troll unguent)
Total regen spike over 10 seconds: 2320.4/second
Warrior max regen (self only) per second: 580/second (full adrenaline)
Guardian max regen (self + group) per second: 495/second
Thats the sheer numbers.

Warrior can reach 1,300hps self heal while pumping out perma total outgoing heal of 9,100hps in a 20+ group. Although it only works best when defending or sieging since banners aren’t very mobile.
Rangers are better in smaller group fights but cannot handle series of fights with short breaks in between as they have long CDs on the spirit elite (and are killable). They are unable to maintain the same stableness as warrior heals.
TLDR: For healing only, pick warriors for zergs, pick rangers for small groups.

its not 9100 hp/s. its 9100 hp IN a sec. HOWEVER all these skills go on CD which lasts 23 seconds (around average since 2x 20, 1x 24, 1×29 trait). so 9100 /23 = 395.65 hp/second
Which is strong, it is respectable. But it is NOT better then ranger.
Warrior self heal is also WRONG. because you are miscalculating adrenal health, which is once every 3 sec, not every sec (tool tip is wrong).
Warrior at full cleric, full life stacks, %healing power from toughness and vitality, banner boosting healing power is clocking in at 2119 healing power.
healing signet (self): 468 + adrenal health 678/3 = 226 – total = 674 hp/sec.
Max warrior heal/sec (2x shout + shout trait + signet + banner buff) = 437.59 (group) + 469 (signet self) + 227 (Adrenal health max adren self) = 1133.59 hp/second MAXIMUM OUTPUT WHAT SO EVER.
Arguably, you could get slightly more hp/sec with an extra shout. But it would not raise it by astronomical amounts.
And now for the same build for rangers
Spirit heal (60 sec lifespan, group): 320/second
Regeneration from shouts (group): 361.103/second
Troll unguent (Healing skill, self, 10 sec duration 25 sec CD): 1084/second
Natural healing (trait passive self): 125/3 second = 41.66/second
Signet of the Wild (signet passive, self): 179 /second
Ranger group heal (per second): 681.103
Ranger self spike heal (per second): 1985.76 hp/sec for 10 sec
Ranger permanent self regen: 581.763 hp/sec
However, warrior will have more armor, BUT ranger will have MUCH more protection uptime and evades. Therefore, through sheer mitigation, ranger self heal, while less, will do more effect. Another thing to mention is, if ranger chooses to drop some self sustain for healing spring, the group “healing” ability far outdoes whatever guardian or warrior can produce simply because 10 second waterfield with condi cleanse can be blasted so many times for 1350hp/blast AOE that its not even comparable to what the others can produce.
It should also be noted that when investing 5(25) points or more into BM, 10% of healing power is returned to the ranger as power. This further enhances power builds, allowing a ranger to far outdamage (remember BM pet is nothing to scoff at damage wise) a warrior.
I run healshout myself, warrior is an excellent healer, but much like healway guardian, it cannot SUSTAIN its allies, merely “drag em back up” from low HP.
While we are at it; Aquatic Benevolence + monk rune ele is VERY high up there with its group healing. Although, spike wise it is strong, CD drags it down a little.
For group sustain (10 man havoc in WvW)
1x Celestial staff ele with aquatic benevolence trait and monk runes (+35% increased healing to allies)
2x shout regen rangers running spirit and 30 into BM.
1x healshout warrior or healway guardian.
rest is whatever.

Correct me if I’m wrong or missing something but isn’t this trait just for the pet?
Full regen ranger is the best ranger build, on wvw, and regen build across classes, imo. For PVE it lacks the power and crit to make things fast on dungeons, but you can solo karkas like a boss.
You can’t die on 1v1 if you play your cards rights. You can even fight 2 or 3 players at the same time.
I invite you to take a look at the healing link in my signature if you want a general overview of guardian healing.
For the most part Guardian passive healing like regen and rejuvenation is lacklustre compared to other professions, although they tend to make up for it by having access to a lot of other sources of incremental healing ( many of which apply to allies ).
Sadly, building for healing tends to be frowned upon in PvE and has limited utility in WvW
I guess it depends on what you are hoping to achieve and where you are hoping to achieve it

I think the op means a melee build thats has lots of sustain not just regen Op since your main focus is pvE warrior or guardian will be your best options. There are quite easy to play and all groups would except either class. Ranger on the other hand can sometimes be discriminated against in pve mostly due to ignorance.

no, it applies to the player too. Once every 3rd second. Jump off a ledge with it equipped and youll notice it.

You’re right, they really should update that trait tooltip then as having it work on the player also is quite a big difference, thankyou for this info.
Hey Carlos
What kind of pve? Open world/ dungeons/ meta events? Group/solo play, condition/ power damage, group/ solo regeneration?
What kind of wvw? Zerging/ occasional guild raid? If so size of guild group?
All classes can be built to be really tanky, depends on what class you want to play the most.

Any reason you’re comparing shout heals with a slotted banner to regen ranger? I know regen can be fairly easy to interrupt from unintended sources but between the #2 on the banner and within 60 seconds you can get ~29k healing regen to allies AoE indefintly with a regen banner warrior. Ranger you get 20560 + 19200 within 60 seconds assuming that spirit isn’t killed and otherwise being put on a 180 second cooldown.
Regen should be equated into your math before you put warrior under a dim light. Also you can’t remove warrior regen as easy as ranger because ranger is every ~12 seconds with a cast time while warrior is every 3 seconds with 0 cast time. Also if someone throws a water field warrior has multiple methods of blasting it (banner as well) and is overall more tank-like.
I don’t deny ranger doesn’t have a strong hps for allies but I’d argue that it isn’t far superior to warrior as far as group healing goes. Talk about self healing and idk, I still feel like the adrenal health (even being every 3 seconds) + healing signet and the stronger regen would win. Not by numbers but by effect, since its all passive and they also have more healing power due to the banner effect.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
I simply forgot to add in banner regen, but yes that is true, however ranger regen lasts much longer.
You also cannot compare “incidental” sources of healing such as “someone else” bringing the waterfield. While true that “if someone brings a waterfield warrior got several blasts” one can also argue that this form of support is not reliable, contrary, ranger has the waterfield, it is a reliable source, it is also a stronger field then most other waterfields and provide direct healing on drop, regeneration and condition cleansing.
If wanting to go all out healing, a ranger can set a pet to passive, slot brown bear and invigorating bond for and additional 2k healing + 2 condies removed in aoe, this comes at the cost of self regen (natural regeneration). Or a fern hound for 3000 hp heal every 20 sec + pet regeneration (bad regen is bad).
I havent taken pet into ranger calculations due to nobody regarding them as even remotely reliable. However a traited bm pet with regen can pretty much facetank anything up to a world boss for a respectable duration.
Pve pet hp is 78.5% higher then wvw though, got no idea why they cant give wvw that boost too

Regen Ranger is worthless outside of WvW small man roaming (and Ranger in general has a lot of PVE stigma). If your intent is something that regens and works in both PVE and WvW, you really only have two options: Altruistic Healing (heal when you apply boons) Guardian or Warrior with Healing Signet. You can dish out a ton of damage without any investment in healing power and have your healing too, augment as necessary with food/sigils/runes if you want more regen(such as Omnomberry Pies/Mango Pies, Vampirism Runes, Sigil of Blood etc)

Pretty sure Ele is the best giver of AoE healing over time. Elemental Attunement + Soothing Wave is just super strong.
Pretty sure Ele is the best giver of AoE healing over time. Elemental Attunement + Soothing Wave is just super strong.
not really, soothing mist is around 490 hp/sec. Add in elemental attunement with 300~ish healing per sec from regen, that makes a really good regen. Ontop of this, aquatic benevolence + monk runes + benevolence sigil makes that 47.5% stronger. Which whoops eles AOE “regen” for 5 players beyond 1600hp/sec. Water staff 3 will heal for almost 2300hpx2 pulses. The water staff AA will heal for almost 1000 hp splash heal around your target. Healing ele is simply amazing these days, but…. this is where you run into a “brick wall”…. i play this exact build in pvp right now. It is amazing for group healing and keeping your friends alive. It is not so great for mobility, damage (both aoe and single target), self sustain (squishy ele is squishy), pressure, conditions (ele suck at those anyway).
Healing ele, is a one trick pony. And while warrior can deal very strong cleave damage even in full cleric, the ranger will outright ridicule the warrior at single target damage (if you run feline or bird pet it will do insane bursts, almost close to backstab damage when/if buffed). Guardian will have more pressure and utility while providing the healing it does.
Ive tried cleric heal ele, it is amazing, and you CAN keep 5 players from dieing, however if you build a group around that sort of ele, you cannot sustain the group itself, because once ele is gone, you are gone. Staff lacks mitigations that other setups have.
Regen ranger will have at the very least 3-4 evades on short cooldowns, it will have a block, 3x leaps, stun breaker, mass AOE condi cleanse….
Warrior, same story, it has mobility, damage, CC, blocks….
Ele, it has magnetic shield, static field and burning retreat – once these are spent you are down to long CD utilities that will not bring you back up to where you need to be…

Runes of the Vampire – are you seriously suggesting that god awfully bugged rune that has god awful bonuses?
Saying Atruistic Healing heals a lot? yes if you use “Save yourselves” in a 5 man team it does. however “Stand your Ground” and/or “Hold the line” will never apply enough boons fast enough to make this relatively bad trait worth it.
Healing on symbols + condition-to-boon conversion on shout is more powerful in most cases.

I have a fully geared ascended cleric warrior (with infused slots and whatnot) and I’m capping at around 2250 healing power.
All my calculations are correct for hps is correct. I’ll do the math here in case of misunderstanding:
Self Heal
Healing signet: 475
Adrenal Health: 230 (I know its every 3 seconds, 230 is already divided)
Banner Regen: 411
Compassionate Banner: 126
Total self HPS: 1242
Outgoing Heal (with monk runes)
Compassionate Banner: 554 (126 × 1.1 × 4)
Banner Regens: 8590 (411 × 1.1 × 19)
(Multiply 1.1 because of monk runes, then multiply by the amount of people the skill can affect)
Total outgoing HPS: 9144
I don’t think these numbers are wrong. Like I said in my previous post, its only 9144 outgoing hps in a 20+ group. Also note that regen boons work like conditions. Regen boons will override others if you have a higher healing power. Let me know if you see any errors.
Anyways, I’m still adamant about my opinions.
Rangers = concentrated heals in smaller groups.
Warriors = smaller heals, but covers a larger group.

the numbers are wrong, because you are not calculating cooldowns.
To get “Healing per second” you must calculate how much that healing equates to, over the time period in which you cannot use that skill.
In the case of Shouts the correct *H*ealing *P*er *S*econd – AKA HPS, is as following:
2216 healing power (max achieveable in editor):
Shout heal: 3474
“For Great Justice!” – 3474 divided by 20 second cooldown = 173.7 HEALING PER SECOND, HPS
“Shake it off” – 3474 divided by 20 second cooldown = 173.7 HEALING PER SECOND, HPS
“Shrug it off (trait)” – 3474 divided by 30 second internal cooldown – 115.8 HEALING PER SECOND, HPS
Shout hps with banner equipped; 463.2 HEALING PER SECOND
Then let us look at the rest of your post.
you say banner can affect up to 19 people? at once?
Unless seriously bugged, have you actually read the skill tooltip? It clearly, without a shadow of a doubt reads “Number of Targets: 5”. This means that EACH activation affects a maximum of 5 people. However this applies to all ranger shouts and aoe regens, alongside staff ele regens and heals.
“For Great Justice!” does not have an updated tooltip, however 99% of skills outside of line/pulsing field skills have a maximum number of affected people capped at 5 targets. So unless arenanet went out of their way to give warrior a massively OP and unjustified super shout, it is limited to 5 people TOPS.
All your numbers prove is that warrior got great healing if applied to many targets. This however also holds true for ranger, it does the same thing, but can actually surpass the warrior by a wide margin in that area as the spirit and pets will wander around the ranger, allowing for a more spread out healing, or, if keeping swiftness on the spirit/pet – more concentrated healing.
I am sorry but all you prove, is that your build, however nice it may seem, can provide an incredible amount of BURST HEALING, however looking at it as SUSTAINED healing and it is far from GOOD.
In comparison; banner heal is 1253/10 + 2849/7.75 = 383.78 healing per SECOND, HPS
Banner heal alone is almost better then all your shouts + trait together. Still, banner is ALSO limited to 5 players.
AOE cap limits your “usage” in any group to 5. Additional mesmer clones, necro pets, ranger pets, summon creatures will also steal your ability to apply to players.

2. All my calculations includes cooldowns.
3. 19 + 1 (yourself) of regen boons is covered by 4 banners and the regeneration from Compassionate Banners. Each source of regen affects up to 5 players… If you spread out each of your banners while using Compassionate Banners, you can cover 19 people.

3. 19 + 1 (yourself) of regen boons is covered by 4 banners and the regeneration from Compassionate Banners. Each source of regen affects up to 5 players… If you spread out each of your banners while using Compassionate Banners, you can cover 19 people.
So you are basing your stats off “inspiring Battle Standards” ???
Well that is fine, however a warrior can only use ONE banner at a time. If you drop them that will require your allies to stay within reach of the banners (also, you are seriously suggesting burning your elite banner for some regen? Do you even know what the elite banner is used for?).
Have you double checked that Inspiring Battle Standards apply when others pick up the banner?
Have you double checked that Inspiring Battle Standards does NOT use the healing power stat of the person equipping the banner, and not the warrior??
Outside your banners, what utility can you actually offer?
What about self sustain?
Sure, it may seem nice on paper to have all that regen, but in essense you can still ONLY apply 345hp/second per individual (you know, doesnt matter if you can heal a group of 20 for a total of 20 million HP per second, if each individual takes 2 million damage per second. The individual is what you need to look at, not the total group application. If looking at group, ele will trash you and still get better survivability (which is bad)
Your build is unviable, not because it does not do its job, but because similar build on other professions simply “do it better”. By actually staying alive and having actual utility. Sure the boosters from the banners are nice, but in essence to make your build work, you need 3 other people then you to lay down their weapons and carry a flag on a stick around for your build to be effective…. in short, unless you are talking of a static “stacking in a corner PvE event” then no, sorry, your banner build wont work.
Also note, if you are in group with players, then the players in your group will get your source of regen (possibly also from other banners depending on how the trait works and prioritizes things). Thus you can risk running 4 banners and only get 5-7 players affected dued to the awesome way that party prioritizing works in this game.
Not saying your build isnt doing what you claim, just saying it is incredibly impractical and has a lot of if’s and but’s to it as things currently stand. Wiki didnt answer my questions either.

From patch notes:
Skills that buff allies in an AoE now prioritize party members.
^ Ranger haters loved that one, cuz now ranger pet couldnt “steal their boons” by running around.

Warrior, same story, it has mobility, damage, CC, blocks….Ele, it has magnetic shield, static field and burning retreat – once these are spent you are down to long CD utilities that will not bring you back up to where you need to be…
Just want to point out than an ele with all that healing power and heals, the majority apply to him/herself as well. Eles may be the squishiest class going by base stats, but if you’ve ever fought a D/D with celestial in spvp (not max healing power) you know they are far from it.
It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.

I play celestial staff ele with AB and benevolence sigil (+37.5% outgoing healing)…. i know how ele works. Their far from bad at healing, they even scale quite ok with it (and their regen is affected by traits, runes and sigils) however. AOE CAP.

… Ugh…
1. If you read my first post. I said the full-on banner build excels in 20+ group when sieging or defending in WvW.
2. Check the video I posted. That was with full exotics and I was already pumping out 400+hps regen boons. Even though its not as impressive as it is on paper, the healing works. (EDIT: I’ll repeat the test again)
3. I know what the Elite Banner is for. You don’t always have to maximize healing output. If you really want to nitpick everything, I could say the ranger elite spirit is near useless in wvw since they die easily from AOE circles.
4. Inspiring Battle Standards scales from your healing power. Doesn’t change if people pick it up or if its left alone on the field.
5. Viability. I think the same thing can be said about all builds that are dedicated purely for healing; healing builds aren’t the most optimal/efficient builds out there.

DD is only strong if it is allowed to move. Throw some consecutive CC in their face and their sustain will only carry them for a few seconds at best. Thats why i don’t like DD. Too fragile when CC’d.
Staff is slow, but man it is brutally strong.

Thanks for the info. Thats a lot of info here.
So ive reached lvl 80 with my WARRIOR. Its very very fun to play. I can survive a lot using my regen+shouts. Last night my entire zerg got wipe on Eternal Battlegrouns (im a new player so im one of those who see a blue tag and, well.., tag in :P) but i manage to survive, and jump from a cliff to safety. Very good and very “noob friendly”build, if you ask me, especialy if you have a shield on the off hand to pop sometims.
Im already working on the RANGER (still lvl 11 right now), looks like its a real nice regen build too.
ive find these two builds on the internet, both from this guy, SirKoroshi, maybe they are outdated, but the gameplay seems very fun at least:
Warrior Regeneration:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj5FL6tdmnA
Ranger Regeneration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDib2vl9fVU&list=PLVC3N9-_9cuCxQKTi7pzzNk0UloGEDNYc&index=4
im a bit of concerned about the regeneration build on warrior after the next ptch, since adrenaline will decay much faster, sad for defensive builds, like mine. But this is something that happens on all my MMOs, the balance changes almost never help my defensive builds :C
PS In this thread:
Raven.9603, i loved your comentary about my CAPS use, hahaha. I did so ppl can fast find about the professions that im talking, but was a hilarious coment anyway!
That ranger build is the standard regen ranger build, it works very well
