Hi guys Shikamaru X here, due to the fact that lots of players seem to be struggling against this spec. I have put together a video showing how to take care of such thiefs enjoy. Its very rough but you should get the general idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63aLufLoOQY
Would be cool to see how you handle these thievs when they have 50% more condi duration from foods.
as a D/D (0/6/6/2/0) thief I eat P/D thieves at breakfast.

In the first fight the thiefs food ran out half way through, though I run -40% or -36%(cheaper) food most of the time when roaming to negate + condi duration food. Last fight thief had + duration from food but I was running -duration so it just even things out.

But but but engi is op and enemies so nubs!! QQ
Sadly this won’t work for every profession. Melee based professions get the short end of the stick this match up.

A lot of professions get the short end of the stick in some way (as good as Engies are against Thieves for example, try putting one up against a good Necro and its gg for the Engie). Or do you seriously think playing Warrior/Guard deserves zero tough matchups?
It’s actually pretty easy to counter a P/D condi thief…. You just have to know what they’re planning on doing.
For example:
If they’re running at you with that “mmmm im gonna get ya” face then they’re probably gonna go in for Shadow Strike which applies torment. Or they could go for a Cloak and Dagger. So just make sure to watch out for that.
Also, if they stealth they’re pretty much guaranteed to use sneak attack, so expect that to come.
And basically just be very aggressive and lock them down with lots of pressure. They won’t know what to do if you keep heavy pressure on them, just make sure you keep their shadow strikes to a minimum.

Are you really saying that? Seriously? Where did i ever say anything about Guards and Warriors not needing tough match ups? -_-
Reflecting sneak attack is pretty hilarious. It doesn’t break their stealth, letting the bad ones (ie most of them) just keep shooting themselves until it runs out.

Pretty much this. I don’t even try to fight these guys on my guardian anymore, because the condition application far outweighs any condi removal I can fit into my build.
This is a tough example to follow.
Just nerf thieves please.
I really tried to find some value in this, given your title, but I just can’t. You aren’t doing anything special here aside from using a build with good sustain and outlasting the thieves until they make a mistake. In other words, you’re not doing much of anything good; it’s the thieves doing something bad. Usually it’s them not dodging a magnet as the most evasive class in the game.
I understand recording perfect fights is both difficult and unrealistic. However, I see countless times you dodge for no reason, block for no reason, overcharged shot out of range, and waste cds like jump shot for a stealth that the thief can easily outlast. Running a mile away (resetting cds) isn’t actually valid strategy for anything competitive (maybe it is in WvW then?). At some points, fights simply devolved into staring contests. Magnet can be cancelled to bait dodges, and standing perfectly still certainly isn’t a good way of masking it. And using crate 1v1 vs a thief?
You might say some of the above issues I bring up are due to trying to predict when the thief will burst you from stealth. Even then, you should never blow both of your dodges and burn through your only block. Good thieves will capitalize on that.
All in all, video much more appropriately titled “Fun fights with P/D thieves I happened to win”.
Anything with offhand dagger (on Thief) is going to be basically as viable as its opponents allow it to be.
Good video in any case OP.

Sword/Dagger? =)

Also about crates… its part of the class. If you have it you can use it.

As I said in another thread the video is really good at showing how many times a P/D thief can kitten up completly and get away with it. I would go so far and say that this build is even more idiot proof than PU mesmer and hammer warrior in WvW.

Touche! I’ve been out of the loop for a while so I’m a bit rusty, good catch.
To be fair Sword/Dagger is the exception that proves the rule, since it can use the melee stealth for flavor but isn’t dependent on it by any stretch.
D/P Thief pretty much hard counters it anyway.
Just have to have a few points in SA and P/D is rendered unable to win.
