Do you keep the standard WASD keybinds?
Hello! I didn’t really know which forum area to put this…. Do you really need to have Move Left, Move Right, Move Forward bound to the standard WAD keys?
I have only Strafe Left (A), Strafe Right (D), Move Backwards (S), and Auto Run®.
I like the way it works for me, even if I do miss doing the cute asura waddle-spin (holding down the Move Right or Move Left key). I’m wondering if I am missing out by not having the Move Left, Move Right, Move forward keys.
What keybinds do you all use for moving around while fighting? Thanks!
I use ESDF so I can use more keys with my pinki while moving

Wait, you use only auto run and not move forward?! :o
I actually do use WASD here, but rpfohr makes a good point and it’s exactly what I do to play DotA. I moved my keybinds over a fewkeys to give my pinkie more keys rather than having my index finger tryign to cover 5 different keys.

Not really… Balance warrior by making unable to bind forward or auto-run as keybind. Let’s see if they GS is that mobile xD

TFGH with all the keys on either side of those bound as well as ALT+several keys. I am a lefty though, so right hand is on the keyboard.

Hello!
There are two different keybinding methods:
First one is called “reach”: you use the ESDF for moving. You can easily press YAQW and RTG and SHIFT+RTG buttons. Easy combinations: 10
Second one is called “modifier”: you use your little finger to hold down SHIFT and/or the CTRL key. You can press Q, ERF, SHIFT+ERF, CTRL+ERF buttons. Easy combinations: 10
Also never forget: the easiest keystroke is the SPACE. So now I always have the SPACE+modifiers binded.
Currently I’m using:
Q: weapon swap
ER: weapon skills #1 and #2
SHIFT+ER: weapon skills #3 and #4
CTRL+R: weapon skill #5
SHIFT+SPACE, CTRL+SPACE and CTRL+SHIFT+SPACE for three utilities
Redragon Perdition mouse Num pad: 4 profession skills, healing skill and the elite.
Extra button: dodge
I’ve completely remapped my bindings. Took a week or two to get used to.
S left strafe, D right strafe, Mouse 4 and 5 are forward and backwards. F E R G V for attacks (respectively) B N and M for utilities (thumb). 2 3 4 5 for profession mechanics.
W heal, Q elite, T swap, A dodge, Z jump, C interact and space auto loot.
I’ve even got tall/rubber keys mixed in to give it some structure.
(edited by Shanks.2907)
I adjust them from time to time. About 2 Weeks ago I changed 10 Keys completely and got owned bad for at least 1 Week. I remember a fight where I didn’t hit 1 Skill that I wanted. But now I’m more dangerous than before. Still there is some improvement possible and in I know its not final yet.
Also whenever I change Class/Build I have to redo some Weapon- and Utility Skills.
I’d love if we could save some Settings and place the Weapons- and Utility Skills randomly in the “Skillbar”.
Greezzz
I usually dont bother to share but i’ll go ahead with it.
I kept WASD but i altered it slightly.
W- Move forward
A- Strafe Left
S- backwards
D- Strafe Right
Q- Turn Left
E- Turn Right
I keep turn and strafe nearby so i can continue to run in circles while i aim ground targeted skills or use my attack skills which have all be redone to the following
F- 1
R- 2
C- 3
Shift + F – 4
Shift + E – 5
1 – F1
2- F2
3 – F3
4— F4
Heal – Mouse 3
X – 7
Shift + C – 8
V – 9
Mouse 4 – 0
Dodge – Mouse 2 (side bar)
I moved display Enemy tags to Left Shift
I also moved Interact to Left Alt
Took some getting used to but it was better than trying to hunt and click or move my hand all over the place.
“Gw2, It’s still on the Table!” – Anet
I use a thumb stick for moving, having four fingers from my left hand freed from movement is nice. With two modifier keys on my mouse (and dodge & weapon swap), I can use any of my skills and open any window without moving my hands.
Since GW2 is my first MMO, my keybinds evolved over time (this is for german keyboard layout):
WASD – movement (strafe, no turn keybinds)
space – jump
mouse 3 – dodge
shift – weaponswap
</> – about face
Y/X – interact
tab – target nearest
Q – weapon 1
mouse 5 – weapon 2
mouse 4 – weapon 3
alt + mouse 5 – weapon 4
alt + mouse 4 – weapon 5
1,2,3,4 – profession skills
C – heal
E,R,F – utilities
V – elite
Well, it works. I had to teach windows to ignore alt + tab and alt + shift, though ^^

anyone can keybind how it fits them duhh
i use same keybinds i used back in wow, since there i had around 60+ keybinds for arena and needed as many fast keys as possible
swap weapon – ^
skill 1 – W
skill 2 – Q
skill 3 – E
skill 4 – 1
skill 5 – S
healing skill – C
utility skill1 – 2
utility skill 2 – 3
utility skill3 – 4
elite skill – alt+ W
porf skill 1 – X
prof skill 2 – F3
prof skill3 – F4
prof skill 4 – F5
dodge – F
interract – V
call target F1
take target F2
autorun – R
jump – space
strafe – A, D
i use mouse keys/autorun to move foward/turn around, i don’t use walk backwards at all since it is slow and sucks in combat
double tap and autotargeting disabled
instant ground targetting (ground spells don’t require extra click conformation)
[Teef] guild :>
I use a Razer Orbweaver.
All movement except jump are on my left thumb along with weapon swap and heal. The rest of the orbweaver does pretty much everything but chat typing. Mouse controls direction, jump, autorun, and interact.

LOL, yep. Here’s a good example of what that looks like. After I blink, you can see the strafing left and right as I try reposition to fight.

I didn’t know where to put the topic! XD

W heal, Q elite, T swap, A dodge, Z jump, C interact and space auto loot.I’ve even got tall/rubber keys mixed in to give it some structure.
Ok, your response looks closest to what I was looking for. It doesn’t look like you need a Turn Right key or a Turn Left key. I mainly auto run and strafe while attacking. I just am not sure if I am missing out on some movement skills during combat because I don’t have the Turn Right and Turn Left key bound to anything.
WASD, jump and dodge still on default. 1-6 still the same.
Utilities 1 and 3 are now the 2 buttons on my mouse, while utility 2 is the mouse wheel. My elite skill is now Ctrl+mouse wheel.
Not many changes, but I still remember playing with the same default keys for the most part of the first year. Good times.
Ah and the F1-F4 are still the same. It doesn’t hurt my hand trying to reach it during a fight :P

Well, the only thing I would use turn right or left for would be in combination of strafing. It gives you a circular movement around your target, but if you’re using the mouse you don’t need it at all. I put my forward button on my mouse because I’m holding it often, so my keyboard hand doesn’t need to be on one key constantly. I would think auto run could be more trouble than it’s worth though. It’s like anything though, once you put enough time into playing a certain way it becomes second nature.
You can start with a few changes to keys you don’t use often, or start from scratch and make your layout what works best with your skills and combos.
I use the arrow keys as a righty with a naga for my skills and such, so no you don’t need WASD :p
Btw: Love you Kaal
Trillmatic |tM| / Angelic Synergy |Holy|
I use :
W=forward
S= back
d=turn right
A= turn left
E=strafe right
Q= strafe left
using Turn right and Strafe right i can do Circles nearly on the spot.
C=pet swap
R= Pet f2
x= about face
g= finish
f=loot all
V= pet Return
Mouse button 4 = pet attack
Mouse button 5 = Utlity 8 (my muddy terrain to click and pointer ground target)
utlities 7 & 9 click on (i need more buttons can’t use T that is still Take target.)
no more buttons within easy finger Reach (needs more mouse buttons :p)
(normaly Lighting reflexes and Sotw, i won’t ever use these unless im going for a kill or Ramping up for one after a muddy terrain using my mouse 5)
S left strafe, D right strafe, Mouse 4 and 5 are forward and backwards. F E R G V for attacks (respectively) B N and M for utilities (thumb). 2 3 4 5 for profession mechanics.

Not at all. I used to play a different game with turn left/right on a/d and strafe on q/e but have moved to just strafe with a/d. Much easier and faster to control directional movement with strafe + camera hold/turn.
It is interesting looking at everyone’s keybindings, though. I suppose I’ll share mine, though:
a/d: strafe left/right
w/w: move forward/back
shift: dodge
space: jump
~: swap, bound to mouse side button (small hands QQ)
1-6: default
7-0 mouse side buttons
F1-F4: default
autorun: F12; only necessary for prolonged running distances with minimal confrontations/run while I’m doing something else :P

[KoM] Krewe of Misfits

Currently using a Razer Naga Hex mouse, but if it ever stops working I’ll probably get a Razer Naga.
8/9 Professions, Asura Guardian main.
WASD: Movement with Strafe

Z to look behind
Space for jumping (you don’t say)
I use a Logitech 602 as mouse with the following key bind
G4 for healing

Don’t. I’m on my third in six months. The current one works in terms of button functionality (first one was DOA, second lost all button functionality in two weeks), but none of the LED’s do, or when they do (sometimes), they will come on at a random point in time – usually in the window of 15 mins to an hour after turning on my PC. Refreshing software/hardware does nothing. They’ve also refused to RMA them. Thankfully Amazon has been nice enough to handle all of it for me since so far all of the models have proven to be defective. I didn’t return the most recent one on the basis that others I know have had similar problems with recent Razer purchases and as long as it works I don’t really care about lights or fancy doo-dads. It’s funny; the only people I know with no complaints are hex users. I was going to get one at first, but I just hate the cheap shiny-plasticy material used on the outside of the mouse.

ESDF here, too. Welcome, fellow Tribes gamers. :P
It’s just a much more useful layout. Lots of keys in immediate reach and slightly more comfortable access to shift/tab.
arrow keys, forward back and strafing
ins, del, home, end, page up for attacks, down to dodge
backspace to heal, spacebar for class mechanic, pet attack
number pad: 0 to jump, 1 for next target
mouse key 3 to loot everything
I usually won’t play any game that won’t let me bind my keys like this.
old habits are hard to break…
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

im another hex user with no complaints, the thing works great. dont really care about the lights it has on it, but they work fine, and so do all the buttons.. and ive had it for like 8 months now.
im going to try replacing run with auto run now
kinda wish anet would give us keybind templates when (if) we get build templates, might inspire me to play ele a bit instead of… engi + whatever doesnt conflict with my engi keybinds
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
Razer naga 2014 + razer orbweaver stealth. I can’t even imagine playing on keyboard. I recommend those for everyone.
I use Up Down Left Right, and Q E for strafe.
When I need to aim or adjust camera, I switch movement keys to WASD.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
No, I use E for forward, D is backwards roll, S and F are strafe, and to move I just hold in E and mouse steer. C is interact and I can’t remember what else I’ve rebound as I just got back from a break.

Yeh, my Naga is a touchy piece of kitten. It sometimes doesn’t want to track at all even after re-calibrating it and using different mouse pads/surfaces. I’ve had it for less than a year.

Same! I use my orbweaver analog stick for movement. All my fingers are always on my skill buttons and I love it. No way I could use a keyboard. Its just so fluid and natural feeling… coming from a guy that heavily played console games growing up.

Maybe a whole different question but still related to this topic: is there any way to move your character around the map by just using the mouse? By this I mean to click a location in the view of the character so it will automatically walk to that location? I guess there isn’t, but many games use this movement system, and in my opinion it is way more accurate than the one used in GW2. Atm I have the feeling that I need to use the mouse + WASD to be able to move around, while there is little space for other fingers and keybinds to use the skills/utilities. I would rather only use the mouse for movement and 1 whole hand free for utilities/keybinds. Any idea why Anet made this current and limiting movement system?
Afaik, nope. You can map autorun to a mouse button and use the right button for camera/run direction. I also have jump on the scroll wheel click and F-interact on a button next to autorun.
Evertyping else is on my Orbweaver.
Standard WASD. Changing it makes no sense in 2014 – we have mice with buttons!
I think only nubs and skill clickers would keep the original keybinds. I don’t I have any of the original keybinds except jump on my mouse/keyboard
