Now ofc, it could be made slightly slower to fire (usually skills take 0,5~1,5 seconds to activate even when they’re instant due to the animation after usage), but in the big picture (you’re in WvW), that’s a drop in the ocean of 150k-200k damage going out in 1-2 seconds in any WvW engagement. Good to kill stragglers around the sideline but the CD on doing it is very long.
I imagine it can be used well to try get the skirmishers, defensively. They usually hold still for a moment before turning and running.

He is running extreme offense, with almost no defensive capabilities (S/F is much more survivable) – doing an extremely well coordinated burst on a mob that is standing still, which in practice can be completely avoided, leaving the Elementalist with no
1v1 burst capability like that for another ~ 10s, and you think it is OP?

Yes berserker gear is op when you kill npc:ees in www. Maybe they could make video where ele who have some defense gear and traits try to kill normal full PVT warrior.

Sorry guys, my bad! Ya the burst is great against stationary NPCs. Although I really like using it against players with varied success, I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone else who is uncomfortable with getting torn up or gets frustrated by not being able to perform a very difficult combo consistently.
My Ele runs it mostly because she’s a bit of a sado-masochist.
It is tough to perform consistently unless you practice this alot, even against NPC’s. I can only perform it about half of the time on NPCs, but then again this is not something I really practice.
Performing it in an actual fight is 10x more difficult. You have get in the right position, have nobody hitting you and catch somebody who is completely unaware of it. Even if you do perform the combo, you can do it only once every 30-40 seconds, an eternity in a fight.
By then, you are probably dead.
Yep, in reality against players, I have about a 10-20% success rate for a down on the opening strike.
It’s a lot more effective at turning the tide of a group fight that’s already in progress by the time you get there; all enemies are distracted and you can turn a 4v4 into a 5v3 pretty fast.
You see that little buff icon in the eles skillbar thats orange and has little flames coming off the the buff icon? It says fire attunement. So watch out. New players don’t usually pick up on this right away, but thats normal.
You could also blind, dodge, evade, block, daze, stun, weaken or go invulnerable. You can literally pick one out of the 8 options I listed, (bonus points for 2 or more), and the eles burst is largely mitigated. Now the next part is hard to do sometimes against a player with everything on cooldown. You probably already do it every day. All you need to do is sneeze in the general vicinity of the ele, and he/she goes down.

This guy has 13k hp and less than 2k armor. Pretty similar to a pve zerker ele. This build cant stay in a big group or under any AC , aoe fire or it will drop in 5 seconds. Even in 1v1, if they avoid your burst you are dead.
In the video he is hitting a sentry, not a player.
Too much burst is too much. No matter how you “explain” it.

Sustain… The guy in the video has less than 2k armor and 13k hp. What sustain? The only defenses he has are earth 5 imune if using a focus and 3 blocks from the arcane shield on a 75s cd. A medi guard has way more block/imune/blinds/sustain.

Hell, any mobile opponent can eat the damage, avoid even more incoming damage and just shred the glassy Elementalist apart.
You can’t really solo or fight in teams, other than showing off, the build is worthless.

Well said man haha. When I was just getting into pvp/WvW on elementalist about a year ago, I tried this build and was very disappointed. Obviously things were slightly different back then, but the concept remained. I constantly found myself on the ground and only ever got like two or three brilliant downs. That’s when I began thinking for myself, broke away from the meta, and crafted my own build. Haven’t tried fresh air or the meta build since.
But! It was a heck of a lot of fun to mess around with and I’d encourage anyone with 2+ Ele’s to give it a shot. I learned a lot in the process of trying it out.
I’ve never had much trouble evading the “burst skills” of an ele.
Dragon tooth and churning earth are massively telegraphed. Unlike an NPC, you can either dodge or simply move out of the way of those.
Fire grab is very conditional and easy to dodge. In fact, you dont even have to dodge it, just keep moving and it will miss as they have to be perfectly aligned for it to hit.
firegrab accuracy has always been questionable. if only it was as easy to land as lightning touch (same animation, same cone of effect it seems).

Sure, elementalists can burst. Then again, my warrior is running around literally one shotting people, and my thief loves his Cloak and Dagger + Steal + Backstab combo that does more or less the exact same thing.
Instantly downing people has always been possible, and I doubt it’s ever going to change. Burst alone doesn’t matter, it’s only ever a problem when combined with too much survivability, and I’d argue that’s not the case here.
Besides, 30k? It hasn’t been that many months since I showed it goes all the way up to 90k

As a medi guard Im’ more afraid of the celestial eles running arround with 70% boon uptime that heal more than my meditations when I try to burst them. Glass cannon eles usually kill me once when they take the initiative and then i kill them for the rest of the match cause they are easy targets.

Hrmm I think the damage is proportionate to the zerk ele’s squishyness.
I think the way it is, is more or less fair… However I do feel like it’s other glass cannon brothers (other than medi guard) such a combo I think should require a bit more set up.

That and honestly just the fact that other classes got overall nerfed.
Power creep and burst capacity could be lowered a bit yes.
