Profession Changes

Elementalist:
Our changes for the elementalist focus on increasing sustain while maintaining the delicate balance between damage and durability. We achieved this by adding more defensive effects to a few main-hand weapon sets.

  • Signet of Restoration: Removed the split on this skill so that the signet passive heal amount will be increased in PvP to match the current PvE amount.
  • Armor of Earth: Reduced recharge from 90 seconds to 75 seconds.
  • Water Trident: Added 3 seconds of regeneration to up to 5 allies in the radius.
  • Burning Speed: This ability now evades attacks.
  • Frozen Burst: This ability is now a blast finisher.

Nah, I’m done with the game now. Stopped playing for weeks already, and this post is just proving that my time is indeed much better spend at something else.

In no single way can a company be this blind. In no way can the Elementalist community, that keeps getting smaller and smaller, actually communicate with ArenaNet.
How can it still not be clear to you guys that the elementalist is in need of much more help then.. whatever it is that you seemingly assume to be a buff now.

About the water trident…. What team support do you think a 3 second regen is in a group fight anyways. And that is when assuming the slow moving low radius projectile actually succeeds hitting 1 ally. ( no way it will hit more then 2, lucky if it hits both you and 1 other ally. Always putting yourself in harmsway when doing so ).

This must be said. I lost my trust in you guys a while ago, still clinging on the fact that some parts about the game are great and Guild Wars 1 was amazing. But now it’s gone too far, these minor and simply depressing changes after such a long time where it was AND is literally impossible to play an Elementalist with any positive outcome seriously makes me wonder why other people still care to play this, now passive and braindead game.

I’m a rank 50 Elementalist, always played Elementalist the most and have 2k hours on my Elementalist alone. Unless something changed the last 3 weeks that I didn’t play, I am 100% sure that this is NOT the right decision of ArenaNet once again, regarding Ele’s.

I’ll say this again. Since you’re referencing “rank” (irrelevant as that quantity is) a PvP metric, then you should probably be made aware that damage is not being nerfed at all in PvP with the ferocity change.

I’m not sure what the terror of this update is…? There are zero nerfs to the class, everything is a buff (Hello Restoration unnerfing). Do you want us to end up Dhuumfiring elementalists too?

The sigil/runes changes are going to probably do enough unexpected damage as it is…

This is just why the game is hopeless for Ele :P There is no one helping out, where it is clear that Ele need helping.

The game is broken. PvP wise. Look at the amount of passive builds dominating the so called ’’meta’’. That shouldn’t be there, it should have the lowest priority to bring some build made out of computers, like the Spirit ranger or MM necro.

Ask yourself what an Elementalist is good at. A glass Ele gets dominated by any thief that knows even slightly what to do. No need to tell you that there are loads of thieves around aswell.
Also note that the glasscannon is currently the most less worthless build out there for Ele. With high burst we can exceed most classes in damage for a short while, making us the best at insane damage once every 40 seconds. ( ressurection timer is faster.. seems fair? Or.. ). Good luck actually landing the damage and staying alife in between. Don’t expect to be of any help to the team aswell, since as soon as you get close, you are dead, or you die right after you use your precious and high cooldown cantrip.

Good luck trying any other build out.

As for the rank 50 what you mentioned earlier. This was simply to indicate my dedication to the class, none of this was farmed and I got it fair and square by doing over 3k pvp games.
I don’t see how the broken leaderboard would be more of a clarification, but I’ve been close to rank 100 aswell. Good luck getting that with an Ele at this point.

eles with on swap and on crit sigils (and with crit sigils having 100% chance to proc) will get a considerable buff. can’t wait to see how my WvW arcane build will handle these sigil changes.

Yes, they are buffs. But they do virtually nothing to address the crippling problems the Elementalist has, i.e poorly implemented class mechanic, total lack of defense/survivability without MASSIVE investment (pigeonholed profession), and huge cooldowns.

The profession is just a mess.

I’m assuming you don’t remember much about balance updates in GW1 or else you would realize by now that it took Anet almost seven years (balance update on January 2012 and later in September 2012) to rework the elementalist and address issues with the elementalist damage in hard mode…

Almost SEVEN YEARS and that doesn’t include the fact that the second balance update in September 2012 addressed more issues— several weeks after GW2 was released and alot of people were playing the new shiny thing that was GW2 by then.

Since Anet is aiming for a slow balance approach, I would assume they know alot more about what’s in store than us, the playerbase. However, yes, I too share the same feeling of disappointment with the seeming disconnection between the player and developer views that is going on with class balance decisions.

You already have my money, so whether I or others stop playing it matters not, however, you no longer have my trust, loyalty or faith and I would be extremely hesitant to purchase anything developed in the future.

It saddens me, that as one of your most eager players when the beta dates drew closer, one of your most excited customers when beta started and one of your most vocal supporters at launch, I no longer think you have the ability or objectivity to do what’s best for your players.

Very suprised to see ride the lightning unchanged. The cooldown is simply too long; 40 seconds is crazy for an elementalists trademark skill. The skill never hits, and goes on full cooldown when blocked or dodged and is very very easy to dodge an ele coming at you with rtl. I share the same concerns as the op.

I think they plan to release new weapon sets for all classes with the next feature build. If not, then these changes are an absolute joke and almost a slap in the face to eles (you have sustain problems? heres 3 seconds of regen on scepter water trident which is small and ground targeted LOL)

Started off as a Mesmer…played Ele for a bit about a year ago…even with this update still not enough. I think the problem is that Ele is the only class I’ve played so far where you truly do give up survivability for damage output.

I can’t fathom why they can’t just buff Ele base health to ~15k and slash attunement cooldowns to ~6-8 seconds. Then maybe the core class mechanic will feel useful instead of keyboard-breakingly frustrating to work with.

Just give Ele’s some freaking BREATHING ROOM to pull off their ridiculously complicated + telegraphed setups and maybe we will see their non-existent representation in tournaments go up some day.

Currently I can destroy 50% of an Ele’s health off before they’ve even finished casting their first abilities. Then they spend the next few seconds frantically dodging and blowing cantrips…after which I proceed to auto-attack them to death and type “sorry dude, ele is a free kill” as I stomp them.
It’s downright pathetic.

Just a note:
Though it sounds rubbish, smallscale-PvP is broken at a basic level in character/stat based RPGs such as GW2 (or DAoC, or WoW, etc).

Any format which denies a player count per side of moderately~significantly more than the total amount of classes available (definition of which depends a bit on game, for example for WoW I’d say 34 classes) cannot be balanced without excessive homogenization (which brings down the effective class count, so yeah).

It’s just not possible.
The very basic underlying mechanics promote – and revolve around – character inequality. In stats, in shiney, in points, in power, in initiative, in control, in whatever. The idea of classes – with upsides and downsides – already enforce this, leading to situations where smallscale combat will never be fully balanced between any two combatants.

As such, I’m really not sure what the goal for a game mode like sPvP is.
Sure, it’s popular. Your game “needs” it. But in the end it’s a hopeless design, as previous games have shown.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I agree that these balance changes are minimal and do not solve most of the problems the class has in sPvP and I don’t understand how they think it’s acceptable to completely ignore many suggestions that would benefit the class in the game mode without making it too strong.

The balance team needs to start understanding the situation of the elementalist and do something about.

You know what, here’s one for you L2D – Learn to Discern.

Firstly why bother posting a summary of the ReadyUp with a minor amendment here or there?

Secondly many of us are sick and tired of hearing about these mythical changes that are coming.

Thirdly, they have proven time and again since beta that they are unable to do anything constructive for this class.

So how about you learn to discern in return.

Soon© may have worked for CCP dev’s because they actually delivered.

Started off as a Mesmer…played Ele for a bit about a year ago…even with this update still not enough. I think the problem is that Ele is the only class I’ve played so far where you truly do give up survivability for damage output.

Same as you, started on an engy and I can barely play it for more than 15 minutes now because ele is the only class where you actually have to work for your damage and survivability.

Eles dont need buffs (ok, they do in a lot of areas), other classes need to be brought down to this level. If other classes want to burst someone down in 2 seconds, they should have to run around with 1800 armor and 11k hp and very little escape tools/stun breaks, not these necros and wars doing it with 30k hp and 3k armor (thats a slight exaggeration but you get the point). But hey with balance changes at this speed maybe the game will approach that in as little as 7 years.

Staff eles are strong in WvW, when they are with the zerg. Dagger eles are still mediocre roamers.

You’re trolling right? Eles are certainly not ridiculously powerful in wvw. They’re mediocre at best in the hands of a skilled player. They’re bottom of the barrel now along with rangers and are in need of serious buffs. Most serious WvW guilds won’t even take eles anymore unless it’s a staff ele used for waterfields and being a boon monkey basically. YOU are obviously the one who doesn’t WvW enough if you think eles are in a good spot there. Its trolls like you that are the reason why the class is so crappy now and why they suck the fun out of the class with each patch making it less and less appealing to play as.
