Engi- Areanet, why did you do this to me?
There’s no worthless classes, only worthless players. Some have more difficulties than others, and engi isn’t one of those. They are top tier in pvp, good/great in pve, and a good addition to 5-15 man roaming. For the animation part, I don’t know, I feel like they are fine.
Lol engi is the 2nd strongest class right now. Sounds like a skill issue, just practice more.
I’m not coming back, not that you care.
I notice that most of your complaints are about the animation quality rather than the actual quality of the kits or traits or skills of the engineer. It would be helpfull to say why (!) you think they are worthless, instead of just stating they are, without any reasoning. (Reasoning will ward off most of the trolls )
I could go into more depth than mentioned above and how other character who are not gun focused have better animations than a gun focused class. But the Engineer is bottom of all server population stats by some margin, there is no argument.
This thread just makes me giggle. Please keep saying engies suck! Maybe, just maybe, engineer will then get a buff and us engies might start to rule all of Tyria! :P
Ehm… saying that a class isn’t played a lot is not a valid argument for saying the class is ‘worthless’. It can mean multiple things like:
- The skills to master the class are quite high.
- People like playing caster type classes more, or melee type classes more or something like that.
- etc.
Again, it absolutely doesn’t have to mean the class itself is bad.
Also, you can talk about animations on this forum, but wanting the animations more ‘epic’ isn’t really a balancing issue, it’s more a personal preference and should be posted somewhere else I think. Just saying.
I can imagine it takes a while to see the potential the engineer has to offer. I can understand people crying in frustration about a certain ranger buff or warrior nerf.. But really.. It’s so rare to find a thread about engineer being weak/bad or not interesting..! xD
But a proper response to OP:
Engineer is maybe not the most played class in the game. Reason? Well, the point is that engineer (in my opinion) requires a slightly higher skill level that some other professions to be player correctly.
There are some sick combo’s you can do, and it doesn’t matter wether you play power or condi. It all works on engineer!
One thing I do agree with you on: turrets could be more interesting. I just have to add that healing turret is probably the most used and best healing skill the engineer has to offer. The other turrets are (in my opinion) kind of ‘meh’.
Skill animations, I can see why you might think some animations fit better on engineer than on warrior and vice versa. But in the end, the rifle skills on engineer are sooo much better than those on warrior (again in my opinion).
Don’t judge the engineer merely on it’s surface, cause what lies underneath is one of the most versatile professions in the game.
DaanClash- Engineers could rule all of Tyria, all 6 of you :p
Engi is well represented in spvp. The same cannot be said about wvw and pve. Wvw zerging is mainly GWEN and roaming you see a lot more thiefs, mes, rangers, and wars atm. The look of animation comes down to personal preference.
That said engi is actually a solid class, if played well they can excel in all aspects of the game. Sounds like its a learn l2p issue and if you don’t like swapping kits warrior is that way >>>.

I main an engineer. I have three of them, out of 12 characters. I consider myself a strong advocate of engineer interests. And right now, what engineers need is not a buff. There was a time when they needed help in that department, and anet has made them strong.
What engineers need right now is quality-of-life fixes. Remove hobosacks, make grenade kit less carpal-tunnel inducing, and do something about the fact that profession loot gives us the least valuable loot overall.

You forgot giving us more elites, supply crate gets old after awhile.
Engineer just does not attract RPG players in PvE as much as say a warrior, a guardian, a thief, a elementalist
these are the classic kitten RPG classes that most people will pick from the start of the RPG PvE game. then people will get related to these classes.
but the class it’self is really strong, actually.
Also you have no argument because 2 years ago my guild roster had 1 possibly 2 Engi’s out of 150+ players, I come back join a guild to find that has dropped to the grand total of zero.
Flawless logic.
Well if you come from TF2 the game with the best engineers concept on planet earth then i can understand you point..
But different games ask for different archetypes.

Engis ate fine in terms of balance. They just need cosmetic upgrades, QoL, and a loooooooot of bug fixes.
Rocket boots killing you cos it does a 90 turn off a cliff
Flamethrower’s #2 can’t blast #4 cos it’s too low to be blasted whilst targeting.
A lot of traits bugged.
Hobo sacks making you look stupid
Turrets looking like they are made on a budget
Etc
From a relative balance stand point, Engineer is really strong right now by dint of being able to abuse the recent buffs to Runes and Sigils the most out of any other class (being strong with Strength, Hoelbrak in Cele builds, strong with Pirate in Turret builds, strong with Balthazar in Rabid builds, etc, etc).
From an immersion/design standpoint I really don’t see how this has any bearing, if at all, in a Profession Balance forum.
Could Engineer Animations and skill cues be improved? Absolutely. Bomb Kit is one of the hardest to read kits – until the bomb explodes – because the Bomb is placed at the Engineer’s feet. The Bomb autoattack is inexplicably larger than the Concussion Bomb – which one deserves better cueing? Rhetorical question.
BK’s power coefficients are also extremely badly spread out; compared to Grenade Kit which has extremely powerful hybrid damage capability due to a combination of high Condition diversity and high power coefficients per individual grenade. But again, your OP is conspicuously absent mentioning such points and instead rants about how Rifle and Pistol animations “look weak”.
Could Engineer do with stronger mainhands? Well, Shield 4-1 will be buffed in November; but Main-and Off-hand Pistol and Rifle still have issues regarding usability (Poison Dart Volley spread, Glue shot projectile speed) and counterplay (Overcharged shot being instant).
In addition, Incendiary Powder is mind-bogglingly stronger and easier to land than Blowtorch now that Balthazar Runes are present. (7 seconds Burn at 6 explosives and Balthazar Runes; which is less dodgeable, unblockable, non skillshot compared to Blowtorch at 400 range. Madness.)
Back in 2012, I posted a thread on how Engineer’s mainhand weapons could be improved. A discussion of what remains of Engineer’s weapon skills to be tweaked as opposed to vehement exclamations of “I want to be like Lara Croft!” would be more constructive.
