Game's Overall balance
I think OP stuff kills fun in mostly some solo content, namely WvW solo roaming and sPvP.
Well, OP. That’s like saying engineers shouldn’t have turrets (Immobilize + regen + burning autotarget spamming in PvP plus an added crate), Guardians shouldn’t have access to select buffs because their traits already provide them and necromancers shouldn’t be allowed to bring minions/should have decreased death shroud pools when minions are summoned.
All classes have their little things that can be exploited in the right fashion. Most of the things you listed can, as well, be outdone.
I think you are totally right while playing solo.
When you look at it from different perspectives:
PvE (to start with)
- Some classes have no problems joining dungeon runs, because they are simply the best
- Some classes do not contribute in dungeons or other group content because of the way PvE is designed (condition specs for example)
WvW
- Some classes are the best in duelling, while other classes are great for group support. If your problem lies with 1v1’s you should either reroll, or play with a group. Because Anet will push certain classes in certain directions at all times (see Ready Ups)
- WvW isn’t meant to be balanced (see the numerous food buffs, power creep and outnumbered servers)
Hotjoin PvP & SoloQ
- In hotjoin, its all about… killing stuff, farming your ranks and trolling in Skyhammer. The skills are balanced around 5v5’s. And in 1v1’s you are still relying on teammates to support you (how good or bad they might be)
- Some classes hard counter other classes
- SP Thief < Warrior
- Fear Necro < Thief
- Turret Engi < …
- Bunker Guard <
- Celestial Ele <
- It mostly depends on skill (in the way you play, and the way you have the insight to avoid your hard counters or face them with another player)
TPVP!!! TeamQ
- This is where balance comes in play. You will see that a meta is formed, and teams quickly try to figure out what the best skills are, and how to counter OP skills “together” (as its team – Queue)
- If for example Ranger with Longbow is totally OP, teams will quickly utilize those specs. But also learn how to deal with them.
So yeah, thats about all I can tell from my point of view…
Duels and tpvp is place of refugees hiding from the freedom of builds in WWW and non-zerker builds.
What you enjoy playing may not be the best against other specs that is a known fact that most people refuse to admit ex: complaining about condition damage on engineer while they die from other conditioners and especially necros is laughable since the game is not supposed to be only about your build. Loving what you play doesn’t mean it’s supposed it will save you from everything if it did that would be broken.
Until pve allows freedom of build I’m fine with WWW but from my point of view the game might end up seperated glass zerker in pve and condi tank in www or maybe it was meant to be like that since the beginning. WWW means one : The harder you player the more rewarding get buffs, food, wide variety of gear, runes, sigils and if that’s too hard for you pvp should be your friend because many set, sigils and runes are not available there still complaining go to pve and blow some steam it might help since the engineer condition damage and stealth traits are top builds over there.
What’s strong in WWW is usually hated because it killed you? How effective is it in pvp or pve?
The Dhuumfire thread
Wait, what you say is that you have a hard time to spot the real mesmer?
Sounds like a L2P issue to me, seriously. Even though you do not want to hear this you said.
If you straight forward said, “NERF PU”, or something like that ok. But having problems with those craptastically scripted clones? That just makes you look clueless.

Sounds like noob which never gone further than mesmer to me, seriously.

Now I feel like I am back at home in the SPvP lobby!

Its strange how people comment without any idea or previously playing every class in game. Im not sure if he/she even knows that mesmer have transparent and original-looking clones. Meh, regardless, its my opinion about this. Not hatin or anything, just suggested

Very. I don’t play sPvP, not sice December 10th. In WvW I know to enjoy the fight only if someone is not hardcore anti-condition tank or OP mesmer(everyone knows this, they are sickly OP). Though I can admit when I lose, but can’t when certain builds owns everything else.
Additionally: Racial skills? Pfff never ever seen someone using them. ANET, what is happening with these, are they just for look? o.O
I wanna play some racial, i like idea behind them. But no, devs don’t allow me to play with them! Why? Cuz only <5 other skills are muuuuuch better choice for whatever build I use.
So, mesmer have clones. But it also have stealth . WHY? It isn’t thief to need stealth. So we just gonna add stealth to mesmer to make thief even more useless or? Can someone enlight me plase, what is purporse of giving mesmer thief’s skill?

what is purporse of giving mesmer thief’s skill?
Primarily? How ridiculous it would be on so many levels if masters of illusion couldn’t become invisible when thieves and rangers can.
Secondarily, however? Annoying thieves, warriors and other mesmers out of their targetting effectively preventing issues such as heartseeker spammers/stealth backstabbers and stunwarriors.
So you do not even play sPvP and all your moaning is about WvW?
That makes this thread even funnier. ^^

Stealth isnt a thief skill. Engineer and Ranger has access to it too.
Also, the purpose is to make them playable. They are good roamers (just like thieves) and thats about it. Without stealth, a Mesmer has kittenty broken clones. Without kittenty broken clones, it would be unplayble. A Mesmer alone couldnt even outdps the healing of a zerker Thief. All weapons has been nerfed to the ground, all clones and phantasms are bugged beyond belief. Stealth is the only thing that works decently and thats just because OP Thief stealth hasnt been nerfed either and is never going to be.
In the end, the OP has no clue what he is talking about in regards of mesmers.
I will hold his hand and help him understand, because he really seems to need this to be done.
Mesmers and Clones. An Overall Balance Overview in different aspects of GW2
PvE: The only viable setup for mesmers in PvE is with phantasm traited for damage. This also means, that clones are as useless as a veteran of GW2 that has no clue about the game.
tPvP: If the mesmer is lucky enough to get a spot in a tPvP team, the only setup he will be using is a ultra glasscannon zerker shatter one. It is probably the most fragile trait setup in PvP and the mesmer actually dies as soon as you fart roughly in his direction. This build only works with heavy coordinated team support, otherwise the mesmer and his clones are dead in a blink of an eye. Teamplay is overpowered, nerf it.
sPvP: You probably heard of PU. And in the end this is what you are whining about I think. Unfortunately, PU is the only setup that works in sPvP if you actually aim for scoring. The problem with PU on the other hand is not the clones, but as a veteran of GW2 you know this. PU punishes players for being noobs, clueless or just simply bad.
Clone death builds have been heavily nerfed with the last balance patch, shatter is too fragile without proper team support and phantasm won’t work because of the broken AI. No alternative to PU means people will play what works.
WvW: In proper WvW, which is about taking objectives and stuff, people run in a zerg. If you have more than two mesmers in your zerg, you are actually hurting your team. Mesmers in WvW are utility bots for veil and portal, clones die way too fast in the action to be of any use.
So what is the OP actually talking about, because clones simply seem to not be a problem in GW2.
Well he is probably talking about dueling and small scale roaming in WvW, which is a totally useless hobby in the greater scales of events which make WvW what it is, or in the entirety of GW2 game modes. Nothing will ever be balanced around it anyways, as it does not matter.
Will PU get nerfed? Maybe, but nothing will change in regards of clones.
The only thing that the OP proofs, is that doing something for a long time does not equal getting good at something.
