Just increase Rapid Fire’s CD, like 12 seconds not traited. Just that. And I’m not even sure wether it should be changed or not.
I’m personally having problems dealing with rangers, but I believe it’s just because I’m not used to fighting rangers and I don’t really know their true weaknesses: previous this patch they just melted, no matter what :P

Said this in the other thread but it’s applicable here, been playing a ranger. The only people I’ve seen actually complaining about it in play this week have been not even taking the minimum effort to play against it.
A thief running away from a fresh engagement without dodging or stealthing at all from melee range is just playing badly, that’s not rapid fire’s fault.
Similarly, if as a ranger you’re standing on a platform, and a guardian runs around out of reach without using any defensive skills or one of the knockback/pulls to clear the ranger off the platform, that’s not rapid fire’s fault.
And yet those are the two people I actually heard complain about rangers in play last night. People wanting to play lazily are their own problem, not the ranger’s.

And do you play Guardian? How long would it take for Guardian to execute his pull?
As of now Ranger isn’t broken if a bad player plays it but if the player on the other side know what the heck he is doing, you better prepare to feel the pain.
I like Ranger and want them to get some good Buff and possibly the best Longbow in the game but what they got were more than just that.

Reading comprehension OP. I want the channel time to remain the same. I want rapid fire to miss all shots even after the evasion frames end.

All i’ve seen is a Select few on these forums that just want it Reverted , since they don’t want any change to combat gameplay , just having a Ranged Element to worry about makes things much more intresting.

Make it so that one dodge dodges the whole ability. In it’s current form you need to blow an entire endurance bar to avoid massive damage on a skill with a 10 second base cooldown. To compensate, let rangers cancel their channel

2 – some people have a hard time with the new longbow ranger. mostly necros, guardians, and engineers (mayyyyybe some staff eles). You know, those people who were bunkering on points and not leaving and not reasonably killable unless they got outnumbered. Meanwhile, none of the other classes have significant problems killing the longbow ranger. Imbalanced? No. Decent counter to something that previously didnt have a counter? Yes.

Yeah I think its very interesting. All the stuff and the things you are saying about this post. Rangers are very much played, and as such we have to think of ways to think about the problem. Don’t always lay the problem at the person that has nothing to do with coming up with solutions.

You never really supported this. You think a moderate amount of forum durrhurring will get them to nerf it, and in the next patch to boot?
Given that we’re not seeing many new rangers in the tournament, the fact that regardless of numbers we all know that ‘lb ranger’ or even ‘3 lb ranger’ does not in any way equal a free win on a map, and the fact that these changes are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in pve for any kind of viability, I find your 95% silly.
Not to say that there’s 0% chance they’ll nerf it otherwise, but the pose ’they’re going to nerf it because people are complaining!!!’ is silly.
Change the way the attack works a bit. Total damage remains the same. Reuse remains the same. Channel remains the same. Range remains the same. Mobility remains the same.
But, cut the first few arrows damage in half, raise the rest of the arrows to compensate.
This gives a player some warning shots then they can single dodge the end of the barrage to avoid most of the damage.
Remains a powerful ability with a high damage potential, but the enemies ability to react is improved. Personally I’m not so sure it has to be changed, but I think this would be a decent option if it were to be changed.
I’m the only one that is’nt having problems with LB rangers?
I only play WvW and I play as Guardian (I don’t use wall of reflection), Staff Ele and condition Necro. With necro I have the hardest time, but I still can kill.
The LB rangers are finaly viable. I’m happy with that. I hope they change all other useless/weak weapons that a lot classes have. Like shield, torch and mace on guardian.
The dodge argument is moot in PvP…there are so many things you can hide behind to obstruct their channel, on almost every map.
The exception being graveyard in Foefire.

Rangers are playable. They’re fun. That should be left alone.

Rapid Fire telegraphs itself with the first few arrows and a fairly distinct sound and cast animation and it only hits for about 6K on average. 7K on squishy targets. It’s a lot of damage for a ranged attack, but not that much in the world of burst skills.

It’s a very important skill for the person fighting the longbow ranger to avoid and should have a better telegraph so the player can tell when it’s coming. As is avoiding a Point Blank Shot is almost up to luck.
It’s like if the warrior hammer skill Backbreaker didn’t have a telegraph. It’d be ridiculous.
I’ve been defending the ranger longbow since the patch launched but even I can recognize that a tell on that skill would go a long way to improving the counterplay against the weapon and make it more interactive to fight against.
Checked the leader-board again, not even on the 1000 for both NA/EU.
I’ll just ignore it as usual since they didn’t even play competitvely to begin with, yet generating those “solutions to balance” despite never playing it.
Whenever I see someone QQ about this one trick pony power ranger, they’re almost always those people who never on leader-board, meaning never playing the game competitively, yet they discuss so much about how classes are imbalance.
(And they always make the same excuse of leader-board means nothing. Yes, it does not represent the measure of skill of a player, but if you’re not even on that 1000, which is stupidly easy to get in, it shows that you almost never play a rank battle at all, or lose way too much on every games)

Opening the fight with bps can be a big risk. I prefer to save it for interrupts, particularly stomps.

Actually thinking about it, putting the vulnerability back on hunter’s shot wouldn’t be that much of a buff since it’s a big red sign shouting “DODGE NOW TO NOT DIE” when you get 10-15vuln and the ranger disappears.

Actually thinking about it, putting the vulnerability back on hunter’s shot wouldn’t be that much of a buff since it’s a big red sign shouting “DODGE NOW TO NOT DIE” when you get 10-15vuln and the ranger disappears.

Eh personally I would reduce the damage of rapid fire by say around 30%.
But to compensate I would put a short cripple duration on rapid fire (say 1 second each for last 4 shots) & buff the damage of hunter’s shot & point blank shot.
This ^ would ensure that the majority of the damage is not dependent on 1 skill & give longbow rangers a bit more ability to kite.
In the end this change would allow good rangers to kite enemies better while still doing decent damage & bad rangers would still suck.

Stop whining and learn to play. Once you face good players as a ranger the play/counterplay gets up to another level because every tool you have can just be reflected back (pun intended). I would argue that 6×6xx or 60260 is a much better build then 66xxx. Especially for WvW.
And besides, all of these complaints are comming from WvW where you can stack over 2700 power from various sources: guard stacks, food, ascended weapons. And as long as thats there, and you have things like perplexity runes WvW is not really relevant is it?

Think you missed the part where I said I would
1: buff the damage of Hunter’s shot and point blank shot
&
2: have rapid fire also apply cripple
in order to compensate.
Over all if done right the damage would be the same over time (possibly higher) & rangers would have more utility (new cripple on rapid fire).
The damage would just just be a little more spread out so it couldn’t be unloaded as fast.
Good rangers would still dominate, heck they might even be better cause they would be able to kite more effectively.
Bad rangers would suffer because they wouldn’t be able to drop people quite a quickly.

Even if they reduced the damage by say 30% then tacked other utility onto rapid fire it would still be better then it was before.
It sucked before because it was barely any increase gain over simply using #1.
Since they cut the cast time in half it has become a massive damage increase over simply using #1 & as a plus it applies vulnerability.
At the end of the day after playing all classes & looking at it from both a ranger POV as well as others I can say with certainty it is bad design to have 1 single non class mechanic skill do so much damage so fast when it is on such a low CD.
Having it that way attracts lots of bad players to the class & will likely end up with a straight up nerf.
I would much rather they fix it soon with a well thought out change then simply nerf it and forget about the after effects.
This ^ is why I’m suggesting changes instead of just saying nerf it.
Best way to balance it would be to
- increase cast time by .5 seconds
-take away two of the hits

the pll that QQ now about ranger
are mostly players that win always VS a ranger with out trouble
like warrior when the 100B was very OP
