If you die to a rangers rapid fire...
Either that or you’ve played since the last patch lol.
I’m not against the ranger buffs, but I’m not about to say that they’re just as weak as they were pre-patch either. They’re a force to be reckoned with, and if you’re not built specifically to counter them, they can be really tough to fight.
If they had their own version of berserker’s stance, I’d say they might even be as strong as warriors now lol.

they do it is signet of stone. I don’t care for rapid fire change but add it with the lb #3 stealth is a bit much.
Or they hit you while you were immobilized, or stunned while your stun breakers were on cool down.
We really got to get over these hyperbole’s from both sides here. You guys are being irrational, because any skill that does damage can kill you. There for it can reasonably kill you.
Is doesn’t seem particularly over powered to me either. I have seen everyone and their mother on rangers though, but it is fairly common to see players trying out various professions after balance updates. It will level out soon.

A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Problem is that dodging, evading and stuff takes skill, but ranger burst doesn’t take any kind of skill. This is reason why kitten ranger players kill other kitten players too easily.

Easy to bait out dodge there auto attacks aren’t just shooting out rainbows and butterflies. The issue isn’t 1v1 its in group settings risk vs reward.

Combine rapid fire with might stacking, signet of the wild, quickness & stealth.
Your enemies will die at 1500+ range before they even have a chance to react.
I tried it out just after the patch. A friend was on his ranger, another on his ele & I was on my mesmer.
The ranger alone was able to down a decent number of people with rapid fire.
While I believe that while it should be nerfed rangers should receive some damage/utility added to other abilities in order to compensate.
Otherwise rangers would just suck again.

Problem being reflects tend to be on moderate/long CD’s where rapid fire can be traited for use every 8 seconds.
Best solution is to
1: Reduce the damage of rapid fire
&
2: Increase the damage & utility of other long bow skills.
That ^ will ensure idiots suck while anyone with any real skill can use the class to dominate.
Let rangers have their fun omg. Or, reflect it and have fun yourself.

Not a single player is traited or geared to deal with Rangers right now because there was no point in it.
All they did was make Rangers average. If you aren’t set up to deal with average it will burn you as if it was OP. Adjust your build and Rangers will go back to being a nuisance (though depending on your adjustment, some other class may now appear OP to you, which is honestly a good thing. Games that don’t force you to make a decision with regard to who you are going to counter are bad).
Just did the Calculations >.>
9 Autohits did most damage before Patch and now its Autohit -> rapidfire -> 5 autohits
Results in a total of about 15% LB damage Buff if you eat up all the Hits >.>
And let’s be honest… 15% dmg Boost to the argueable worst weapon Choice for Ranger is not a Gamebreaking Buff.

It is more effective at killing bad/unaware/improperly specced players though thanks to its new bursty nature.
Once everyone figures out the specs that are needed to counter it, Longbow Rangers will drop into the middle of the pack and become noob hunters (which does sound fun).

Maybe the devs will apply the new player experience to pvp so the dummies who still havent found their dodge key can figure it out

I die because:
(1) A herd of players runs over me
(2) A good player forces me to use dodges and defensive cooldowns … and then hits me with what he really wanted to hit me with.
(3) I waste dodge/defensive cooldowns and get punished for it when something big hits me.
I don’t die because some player presses #2 while using a Ranger longbow.

Ways to mitigate Hundred Blades:
1. Move out of the way.
2. Dodge.
Ways to mitigate Rapid Fire:
1. Move out of the way (behind an object).
2. Dodge.
3. Reflection.
4. Missile Destruction.
5. Block while at range.
I think that the bigger list of mitigation possibilities certainly counters the fact that it can be used at range and while moving.
Here’s a great example of what mtpelion is talking about …
Let’s just look at Elementalist’s Off-hand Abilities with a Focus.
Water #5 : Ice Comet : daze stops channeling
Air #4 : Swirling Winds … destroys projectiles
Air #5 : Gale … knockdown stops channeling
Earth #4 : Magnetic Wave … reflects projectiles
Earth #5 : Obsidian Flesh … invulnerability (enough said)
That’s 5 ways to stop a Ranger from nailing them … and that’s just looking at their off-hand. It’s also useful against non-rangers so isn’t even them building to beat a Zerk Longbow Ranger.

don’t forget that ele’s have one the best burst combo’s in game right now.
Its funny, when people talk about counters to specific builds, as if every person out there could just so simply adapt to these changing situations out on the fly whenever they need/want, as if GW2’s combat system would just work like in GW1, where you had 4 different weapon sets avaiable at any given time to change out, while being in combat.
These people quickly always forget, that this here is not GW1, this is GW2 where all classes have only a maximum of 1 to 2 weapon sets which they can use maximum, while being in combat.
Not every class also has this big amount of options while being in combat to quickly adapt to an appearing sudden fast multiple ranger rapid fire burst, especially when it comes surprisingly out of a stealth, to be able to react on it so quickly with such a chain of counter skills, like you describe it there Sebrent…
If the damage bursts of rangers are now so extremely out of whack, like people describe it here, then has Anet really to take a look over their balance chances and maybe draw at some spots theor power boost a bit back and maybe improve it therefore somewhere else.
Rangers as per see are still quite far away from being a good class design.
Anet yet hasn’t touched at all their pet issues really.
All what Anet did is just improving their damage output, making their utilities more useful in general and tweakign some traits to become better, but their whole pet mechanic,s bugs and the like, has completely not seen any love at all.
While on the other hand, Anet completely ruined mostly the thief , that I go so far, that in regard of useless and way too weak traits and utility skills that the thief is now even under the ranger and is in a dire need of a class mechanics and trait redesign.
But thats just my opinion…

2. Dodge.
3. Block (How you missed this one when it was in your RF list, I’m not sure)
4. Interrupt (which can theoretically do to RF as well, but you’re guaranteed in range to interrupt a warrior using HB if he can hit you, the same isn’t true of RF)
Note, I’m not weighing in on which is better, if either is broken, or anything like that, just fixing some glaring oversights.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.
then you just might need to learn to evade/reflect/run up to him and just hit him.
If youre a longbow ranger, learn to count evades.
Rapid fire cooldown will be up before reflect will be, so if they catch the 1st one… feel free to hit #2 on the 2nd.
Should they feel like running up to you, feel free to use
Longbow #4
Longbow #3
Entangle
Hound/spider immobalize
Wolf Fear
Should they use stability, switch to greatsword and reset the fight.
then you just might need to learn to evade/reflect/run up to him and just hit him.
evade:
You need to use 2 dodges, I.E. your entire endurance bar to avoid damage.
reflect:
I play thief and necromancer, out of all my reflect options: which do you suggest for rangers? Idk why people suggest reflect like it’s a core mechanic of every class.
run up to him and just hit him:
if you try to run up to a ranger who opens on you from 1500 range, you won’t get halfway before dying,. If you do, that means he is tank spec or isn’t wearing any gear/jewelry
Not ready to flat out call LB rangers OP yet, patch is too fresh, but I’m certainly leaning towards it.
I just don’t understand why it does double backstab damage at MUCH less risk.
Rangers are definitely not OP, and I don’t even know if they are viable in high ranked team-q.
They are in a much better position now, but I have yet to lose against one. As a Medi Guard they are incredibly easy. Sure thing, if you’re unaware they can burst in a teamfight, but that’s how it should be. Then you simply gotta be more aware of who’s joining and leaving fights.
Edit:
In WvW they might be too much with their 1500 range, but as I keep stating over and over again. WvW will never be balanced with Food Buffs and ridiculous extra stats like Applied Fortitude. Even the armor-stats you can get are ridiculous. They would die instantly in a zerg-fight, which I believe is what WvW is about.

I meant to put block in its own category since block has a lot of variables (such as does it stop on first hit? stop on first hit only at range? etc.)
Okay how many people here have actually lost to one of these ”op rangers” in a 1v1 fight? I’ve been killing these baby rangers 1vX since the patch with absolutely no problem.
They are running the full glass bearbow build that has been a running joke since the game was released. Just use any one of the many ways listed to avoid their initial burst and then breathe on them heavy so they die.

This pretty much.
I found that
-Thieves have a really easy time with this spec. They are glass, a well played thief adds so much pressure that there isn’t really anything they can do.
D/P is still a thing. sadly most of the newb thief population played S/D so it will be a while before people jump on this.
- Mesmer’s have an equally easy time with them because of phantasm’s and the ability to reflect AND remove boons.
No stability burst = dead ranger.
-Power Necro- its a thing. It’s hard to play, but when you can remove boons and fear a squishy into oblivion WHILE ALSO HITTING for 3-4k on an auto. ( o and having a complete new life bar) it becomes manageable if not easy.
-Elementalist – if I have to explain why this is a good matchup for them then you need to review some thangs
-Medi Guard.- it moves, you burst. You have the tools and the sustain to make this an easy win.
Wouldn’t Retaliation/Wall of Reflection make short work of someone camping a ranged skill or a skill that hits a lot in a short amount of time, like Rapid Fire? Correct me if I’m wrong, I haven’t fought any since the last patch.

yeah 100b doesnt need anything else to land a 100b right??
Like rapid fire.. so you say everyone stand still and eat a full 100b for free? no stun/immob before this skill.. nope warriors just have to press 2 to win…
Just like rapid fire right!?
lol
ranged 1500 > no setup needed but if you want there is even a knockback on the SAME weapon.. > insane fast > arrows are like bullets
then you just might need to learn to evade/reflect/run up to him and just hit him.
I am just trying to understand this statement. Are you implying that all ranger just die in 1 hit in melee ranger with any build what so ever?
That include tank builds?
I think the biggest issue with rapid fire and similar ranger skills is they have a heat seeking ability to follow you as you move. You can dodge, but when you come out of dodge the arrows are still hitting you. You can go into stealth and the arrows are still hitting you. If you don’t have easy access to block, reflect or extreme mobility you die without even getting close to a ranger. Bad balance is when you have to have specific builds to deal with one class that isn’t particularly good against other classes.
then you just might need to learn to evade/reflect/run up to him and just hit him.

And that’s exactly it. It has nothing to do with the weapon/class being OP but the fact people have never learned to keep an eye on their surroundings. Frankly, any class that ganks you well is going to have a massive advantage, especially if you’re blowing resources to move across a map faster. Heck, a thief can engage from way further away and deal better burst, but they’re not overpowered.
It’s a combination of now knowing how to counterplay them/refusal to learn and genuinely bad playing techniques in regards to map/situational awareness which are the cause of the class never being threatening before. Those who have played/play other games with devastating ranged damage dealers understand the importance of this and thus just have fewer issues facing the class in general.
Nothing’s inherently OP as much as it is people not understanding how to deal with it yet, and the incredibly high presence of rangers on the battlefield because of it making it seem like they get such easy kills when in reality it’s just that half of the active population is now trying the class again since it’s fun and viable, and most deaths are occurring from rangers because statistically speaking, more people are playing them than anything else. Not to mention that people are desperate for something fresh since gameplay on the rest of the viable classes has gotten so stale.
So you’re going to die from rangers more than anything else until the excitement dies down just because more people are playing them. Your rate of deaths probably won’t be much different, though.
