I have an 80 warrior and it has been alright as a class but not a very high skill cap and therefore is limited in its max potential. I have been beaten many times by Mesmer on almost every class so it seems like Mesmer is in a pretty good place. So my question is: should I delete my warrior and start over on a Mesmer? I mean, is it more worth the time to play Mesmer? Do you get a higher degree of challenge from it?

You have 5 character slots. Why not just make a mesmer with one of your 4 remaining slots and see how it goes?

Absolutely this.

If anything, keep your warrior as a PvE drone. It is very unlikely that the reign of Warriors in PvE will ever be overthrown, so having an 80 warrior would be quite helpful for whenever you want to just blast through a few dungeons.

Now that its just harder to get traits you shouldnt be deleting any lvl80s you have imho

looking for attention. why make an entire thread about “deleting a level 80 character because its too easy, in order to make room for a mesmer”…

why would u deleted a lvl 80 character anyways… if you already have ur 5 slots filled, then buy another slot… you put the time in to get ur warrior to 80 and are willing to throw it all out to make a mesmer… LOL

I want to clear things up: not looking for attention of any sort I was merely asking a question regarding the Mesmer as a class and whether an experienced Mesmer player could tell me the benefits of having one and if it would be worth 1) leveling again 2) deleting a warrior. and I have filled my 7 slots to answer questions about slot filling, yes I could buy gems but id rather save money and just figure out which class is more worth having from an enjoyment standpoint.

So my thanks go to Penguin and Bhawb for actually making helpful comments. Carpboy, you really think anyone wouldn’t have thought about that already? (though it was good for laughs I’ll give you that) and shadow, I’m not even gonna go there with you.

I don’t think 800 gems is all that difficult to get in gold (especially since you have a warrior an can grind out dungeons easily).

I think spending 800 gems (or h/e much it costs) is more worth it than deleting a lvl 80 character that undoubtedly took a bit of time and effort to level.

1) You will eventually want a warrior again in the future and think to yourself “D*mn, I wish I hadn’t deleted my warrior.”
2) See above answer.

Warriors are (this is debatable, I know, but I’m simply stating from experience) better overall in all aspects of the game. (More) wanted in groups, dungeons, tPvP, WvW, GvG, etc. etc. Mesmers are wanted too, don’t get me wrong, but warriors are easier to master and, in general, easier to find groups. Organized guilds need at least 5 warriors, and maybe only 1, 2… 3? mesmers at most.

Alright, don’t go there with me. And about what Carpboy said, as his comment was “not helpful” either. You never stated in your original post that you:
1. Had already considered this option.
2. Already filled up 7 character slots.
3. Or made it sound as if you weren’t making another “I’m quitting, please feel sorry for me.” or one of those “I can’t beat this class so I will delete an entire level 80 character and reroll, because I just can’t beat it.” types of threads.

Is that helpful enough? I even bothered to use punctuation in this post. Not something I normally do. (lol, haven’t made a post being this serious in a long, time.)

Ok shadow, yes it was in fact helpful they were valid points so thank you for contributions now back to the post you are not very happ with me calling unhelpful, I figured it would be common sense to use up all character slots before deleting and therefore was unnecessary to state but I admit I was wrong to say that so now I give you my apologies. And Bhawb, nice idea I will do that. So now that this has become very helpful I shall thank you all one final time and go dungeoning. Goodbye!

No offense, but that’s most likely your fault and not because of what class you are playing.

I have two warriors and a mesmer level 80… Surely out of the 8 professions, there is one you don’t ever wish to play?

You can get 8 character slots through gems…

You should definitely make a mesmer. It sounds like you might not be very familiar with mesmer skills, which is probably why they keep beating you; a great way to learn how to beat a profession is to try playing it for a while.

But what I gather from the thread is that you have seven characters, and your warrior is your least favorite. I assume that you have spent a considerable amount of time on all seven characters to reach this conclusion. And so I really have to assume that making the eighty gold or so you need to buy that 8th character slot is probably not a big deal for you.

Maybe if you increase your skill as a warrior, perhaps you won’t be beaten by a Mesmer.

Yes warrior has fewer button to press, but that doesn’t not make it less high of a skill cap. It just have a lower skill floor. And with certain build you can definitely kill most Mesmers easily.

Even if a Mesmer can kill a warrior easily (which is not the case) that doesn’t make it a good place. There is a reason why WvW and pve is full of warriors. They are actually great in all aspect of the game. Mesmer, other than that 1v1 PU, when are they really that good? Roaming? they have no mobility to speak of.

It is better to get another character slot than to delete a lvl 80 of any kind. It is $10? You get pay > $10 working with minimum wage job in less than 2 hours, do you lvl a 80 in 2 hours?

i am sorry sir but u seem to have the wrong idea of mesmer, mesmer is one of the awesome roamers, its just that pu has more room for mistakes, reason why ppl take pu nowaday, there r still some of us playing shatter

this is me, rly tired about to go sleep(reason i click some of the skills and reacting so slow to some stuff), playing shatter, wrecking as 2 man 4-6 ppl, cant count, some ppl joined the fight while some wped away…

anyway, mesmer is a rly nice roamer. regardless if pu or not.. just requires more skill to play a non pu

Actually Mesmer can roam. I never said Mesmer is bad at roaming, its good at beating other profession 1v1 in a fair fight. If your opponent wants to run, there isn’t much you can do to stop them. When a zerg runs through, to get away, your only option is to hope they don’t see you after your stealth is up.

I also never said to the OP to not make a Mesmer. All I am saying to not to delete the lvl 80 warrior (or any profession) to make one.

About the vid, yes its showing off! , na jokes aside, yes the second part is just so that the vid is long enuf for the music to end:p, i dont record often yet , i plan to on future, anyway i meant that shatter mes is viable for roaming (reason why i posted the vid, for the first part only, ignore second part) even if u dont use pu, i probably have misunderstood u ye, just felt kind of offended when ppl see mesmers as no more than pu users

Oh ok I miss a rogue and 1 more up leveled for the first part. So its you and a theft vs 2 up leveled + 1 ranger and 1 thief. Not to mention you went down a few times. I am sorry that’s not much to show off.

I didn’t say Mesmer sucks, its main strength is 1v1 dueling. It can beat a power based warrior fairly easily, but against a conditional warrior, it won’t do nearly as well. There are not a lot of these warrior around though. However when you actually roam even if you face a power based warrior, you will never be able to finish him off unless he wants to die.

Delete the ranger..no one needs those

people tell you to keep the warrior for pve, but if you have Ele/Mesmer/Guardian you could get in dungeons no prob. and hearing you have 7 characters, you won’t have a problem with dungeons. maybe it’ll be hard to get into some dungeons with some professions, but if you have Ele, Guardian, and Mesmer it’s not a problem.
