Least played Profession?
It depends on the gamemode I think, but I would be willing to bet it’s necro
S P E E D Starr #0 Necro NA or
I Am NeXeD awful d/D ele NA
Necromancer or Engineer would be my guess.
thx for replies ( u have a beer), so i guess i can try to lvl’up my necro to 80 and see from there!
At the end of the first year, Anet released a blog post with some numbers:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/
It was Mesmer and Engineer. Not sure how they calculated that, but there you have it.
Sebastian Knight thx for link, i rly appreciate! beer for u also!
it most likely hasn’t changed from the last post about it, Mesmers might seem very popular but that goes away and people move in Waves from class to class.
it’s probably a close tie between Engineers and Mesmer still.
these are the two classes who do the most work for a lesser or equal reward / result as the other classes.
“Gw2, It’s still on the Table!” – Anet
In PvE definitely Engineers, they don’t have GW lore like Mesmer or tradition in rpg like Necromancer and Ranger or appeal of Warriors/Guardians/Elementalists/Thief, plus they are really outside of the classic scheme of RPG (similar to Mesmer in GW1 tbh)
In WvW any classes can be good for at least either zerg or roaming, so you see all of them. Still Engi is the less picked I guess, but just a feeling.
In PvP I see all classes more or less, the least played is not that less played than others. Engi are always there in PvP to compensate for their absence from PvE

i’d probably guess mesmer,
in pve they’re a pain in the butt to level. (due to clones/phantasms needing to be resummoned every NPC you kill. and lack of decent AoE)
i’d wager there are less lv 80 mesmers than any other class,
in pvp they’re generally not as easy to faceroll with until you learn them.
I agree they are probably the least played right now, but I cannot agree with you about leveling. For one, if your leveling by killing mobs, your doing it wrong in the first place. Secondly, you can karma train it in the EoTM as fast an any profession.
Iunno. I’d argue mesmers are more noob-friendly overall than say, running a D/D thief by the new standards of NPE.
Engineers and mesmers have the least appeal to the demographic of most gamers, particularly in this genre.
As someone mentioned, the engineer does not fit in the more traditional fantasy setting which is what appeals to the greatest number of people playing fantasy MMO’s. Therefore it feels out of place. Paired with its particularly boring mechanics and zany abilities which seem to lack a sense of seriousness/edge (again regarding the demographic of players – consider the number of bad-“cats” running around versus the ones who don’t take themselves seriously), the class just feels out of place for many.
With the mesmer, it’s pretty similar. I’d wager an overwhelming majority of mesmers are female characters, again due to the whole aesthetics thing. I personally know mine is for the reason that I just didn’t think the whole pink butterfly effects suited my desired character appearance as a male in combat. The class also has a reputation of being difficult to level (for some reason I don’t know; I found mine on the easier end even as glass cannon shatter, although it could be due to my more advanced knowledge since starting), and quite buggy, while not particularly OP/relevent in the modern meta in sPvP and has only limited use in WvW.

Oddly enough, engineer is the cheapest class to try new builds, eg. SD to condi.
Leather armor, and up to 2 weapons.
depends on game mode, my guess is
pve: engis (boring class thematically, mostly overshadowed by other profs in pve content)
wvw: either mesmers or rangers probably, mesmers can’t contribute much to zerg besides veil, rangers are just lol
pvp: i can certanly tell what is most used, can’t tell what is least used given recent patch changes
