Guild Wars 2

Lately I’ve noticed my lag going up in this game. Both before the Megaservers and definately after. Don’t know if this kind of post goes here, but since it affects all classes…

GW2 is a very latency dependant game. This was most noticable when playing PVP. I should mention I play GW2 from Sydney, Australia. I get much better at PvP as all the americans start to log off, funnily enough.

Anyway, lately the lag is much more frequent and is starting to affect me in dungeons, which it never used to. I can do Lupi in my sleep, but lately… sometimes… its ridiculous. Don’t know if its just me or if others are getting it, but its been a noticable increase for me over the last few months.

(I remember when one of the devs was playing WVW and on his screen you could see he was playing at 80fps with 3ms! So jealous!! /cry!!!)

I haven’t been able to reliably play GW2 in weeks – been getting frequent drop outs and packet loss. Don’t know if it started with the April 15 update but it seems to have gotten worse since then. Also in Sydney.

Interestingly I’ve noticed the same issues while connecting over VPN to an educational network and via a proxy tunnel including via a server in the UK(which normally gets around any issues with international peers with my ISP TPG). I haven’t noticed any issues with any other network services in Australia or internationally so I’m guessing it’s a border router somewhere closer to ArenaNet’s datacentre in Texas. Keeps coming and going so I haven’t been able to track it down any further yet.

I’ve been avoiding dungeons and fractals more often for that reason (I hate dragging a group down with drop outs and disconnects). Last week or so I gave up and just did some map completion instead.

I haven’t been getting disconnected, but sometimes actions “get lost” between here and the server. Or things just go off a second too late. I wouldnt be surprised if it has something to do with the Megaservers or something, but it definately adds an irritation to the game play. : (

I almost didn’t play lately. Between skill lag (which is a usual lag in WvW when there are many people), and latency (which is what I experience lately, in almost every area of the game), pretty hard to have fun playing.

Weirdest thing is that it comes and go, and the two VPN I sometimes use (most of the time, if one doesn’t work, the other will), seem too do nothing for me either…
I live in Qc, and some of my fellow Quebecker players that used to have no problem are also having weird latency…

I feel for the aussies I really do. They never get good latency
