Stacking is not exploiting.

Do you know how many times I’ve done AC and scrubs don’t pay attention to Kholer, get pulled in and melt to daggerstorm?

Have you tried stacking Alphard? Pugs die. Experienced players chain reflects.

Seriously though, I’m not going to lie. When I do a dungeon, I run either my guardian for his reflects and might stacking, either my mesmer for portals, stealths and reflects or my full zerk warrior. Dungeons are a joke, once you know what to do. I’ve played them all to boredom, because they’re too easy.

Man, would I enjoy actually getting challenged by a dungeon. Never happens though. :/

In this case, I would have thought that the AI system works by loading a list of skills, each of which can have various parameters. Then, each entity can have it’s own script what to do with those skills and abilities, or falls back. First to the type, then to the general subset (player pet, boss, other enemy, etc), then to the very basic “use longest CDs first” script.

Noting remarks concerning not changing pet-ai because that would have far reaching consequences for mob ai and balance I would guess that AI is not quite so nicely ‘OOPed’.

Core AI behavior… not a simple skill loadout.

Bleh. Now, being a developer, I’m quite curious what engine this runs on and how their tooling is and how the underlying implementation is.

I suspected in the past that the reason changes seem slow and indirect in GW2 could be because it’s not their codebase. They bought the engine+toolkit. And as such as soon as they need to dig into the plumbing, things slow to a crawl because it’s hundreds of thousands of lines of code none of them wrote.

That’s how I’d do it. But it might not be runtime efficient at all, I never had to do much of that yet besides some realtime combat-log parsing in WoW.

GW2 is using a heavily modified version of the engine that Anet made along with GW1.

That means they’ve been working with the engine for more than 10 years. GW1 came out in 2005 and it had 2 or 3 years of development time before release.

If I had a guess I’d say they know their engine inside and out and the problem with slow updates has to do with them trying to do things outside of their engines capabilities and getting it to work decently.

That is part of the reason why we have GW2 instead of the originally planned Utopia expansion for GW1.

Zerker needs nerfing. That is all.

So we can all run condi bunker builds
So we have to spend more time in dungeons
So we can delete all power weapons and all run hybrid/condi weapons
So we can delete power classes.
So we are all the same and nobody dies anymore in duels
So we cant capture point in pvp before timer ends
So we can spend bilions of gold to get new gear/weapons

Crying about zerker stats in this condi bunker meta.
It makes me really sad..

Fine, I’ll expound. There are two separate problems at work here that are exacerbating each other. One is the issue of Zerker stat scaling. The other is the issue of encounter design.

Zerker stats are just more effective due to a combination of better scaling (due to the synergy of the triad) and lower diminishing returns. In particular, crit scaling is too steep at level 80. You can tell this is the case because non-condition skills are weaker than condition skills at the baseline and less effective while leveling, but at 80 it quickly turns around. This is the main cause of why conditions and defensive stats both feel lackluster in comparison. Because they generally are.

Encounters are also designed in a high risk high reward way. Mobs tend to move slowly and predictably but hit very hard. This all but trivializes defensive stats to that point that it’s generally ineffective to boost them at the expense of your offense.

The problem needs to be addressed on both fronts. Crit should be less effective than it is, particularly in PvE, and you should be forced to take smaller hits more frequently so that your defensive stats play a large role in your ability to absorb punishment and still fight. It also wouldn’t hurt to add some new active playstyle mechanics like Vitality boosting your Endurance regeneration.

2) Useless pve classes . I think alot of people want to nerf zerker because their class will never be accepted in a speed run. I can understand that, why
just not buffing them? So they can enjoy the game like every1 else.

I think this wouldnt work. Zerks kill everything so quickly that i feel completely useless with my hybrid necro. My most powerful attack is epidemic, and before I can build enough bleeds to make it interesting, the other 4 warriors have already killed all the mobs.

Against dungeon bosses the problem is not so terrible, as I seem to be the only guy still applying conditions, so I don’t have trouble with the cap as often but, as soon as another hybrid or condition build shows up, it’s wasted bleeds again.

The problem is that full zerk groups have a sinergy, while 2 condition specs nerf each other.

As for the ‘i should be able to play in full soldier’ crowd, I don’t agree that you should be able to acquire passive defense for nothing. zerk should always be >>> soldier.

Why nerf zerker?

Because jealous bads have spammed the forums so much that they’ve literally made the devs do what they want.

What they don’t understand is that the new meta will still be DPS oriented. So gear check them before your dungeon/fractals/whatever runs and if they’re not the equivalent of " zerker " in the new meta treat them the same as before.

This changes nothing, except our clear times – for which i feel cheated.
In a sense the game is changing because some people could do more and those who couldn’t started crying very loudly. So now they’re getting what they want.

It’s a sad day.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

Oh no. A 10% DPS drop if a person goes full Zerker.

Oh the humanity. Crit Damage is now named “Ferocity.”

E’gad! It’ll take me five more seconds to kill that dungeon boss!

Honestly, from the “Berserker nerfs ruin my clear times” crowd, all I see is “I find this content so dull that I just want to rush through it quickly in order to acquire my ultimately valueless electronic reward.” Honestly, if this game has become -that- much of a grind to people, I’d just recommend taking a long hiatus. Play some single player RPGs, go on a nature hike.

I’m not one of the people who cried over ‘Zerker being the new meta. In fact, I use it in all of my Mesmer builds. Because I can just… give my Phantasms 30% bonus damage, I’ll still probably use it. Or just toss some of my student refund into getting some new gear based around what the new Mesmer meta is (I’m hoping for something a little closer to GW1. Interrupts were a lot of fun to use).

Would I like a refund on my Ascended pieces to be more in tune with what’s good for Mesmer after this patch? Yes. Would I be terribly upset if one wasn’t made available? No.

What about giving you a “big gun” so you can ’splode things and be happy?
Seriously… Buff all the classes? And then what? Giving you an “I win” button?

What madness is this that people want all classes balanced… WHAT IS THIS MAGIC????
