Despite being a cool idea, the thought of Elementalists getting even more combo fields make me die a little inside.
If you put it on CHURNING earth, not Ring of Earth, for God’s sake, I think that would be quite interesting!

I’m sorry but melee classes don’t need to be even stronger. Currently the strongest classes in this game are Warriors, Guardians, and elementalists. Except staff eles, all melee classes. Making them stronger is kind of against the idea of balance I keep hearing everyone talk complain about. Kiting is very difficult already, making it less effective probably isn’t a good idea.
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,

spit balling ideas for it and didn’t want to only include ranger, and im sure we don’t want another class that is the only one that has access to the only field of a certain type (lighting field)
I’d say that not Earth, but Nature Field. But I certainly like the idea, because I suggested exact same thing two months ago
Although the cripple could be 1.5 sec and Magnetic Aura for 3 seconds is a little bit overpowered, I’d reduce it to 2 seconds or replace with vigor.
That’s said, which skills should get this field?

Not to mention that with this new, nearly exclusive on-demand long duration low cd combo field, Ranger would be certainly welcome in WvWvW setup

I’d make churning earth a field+finisher skill (just like black powder for thief), so that it creates an earth field (with a short duration) and blast it at the same time.
That skill needs some love.
If it would be “Earth” field, i would propose adding a 2 sec earth field to the Thumper Turret Overcharge as well.
Edit: Though that would be an instant blast finisher in its own field… quite OP come to think of it.

Guess what, easy meta in PvE may change. Rarely anyone would use it in PvE too, even bearbows do not (they like signets, not MT). Adding group projectile reflection/vigor/protection is always a good thing and would be MAJOR in WvWvW ranger role with extra flavour to couple other professions.
We need that. I want more Cripple.

It’d also hurt ele ability to take advantage of their fields, with the risk or overwriting a fire/water field by an earth field for instance. Group projectile reflection would be op imo. Rangers already got quite a few improvements so let’s see how this packs out. I don’t think adding new fields is the way to buff rangers, maybe give them more blasts via traits if you want them to be a field user class.
You know that this field would be most likely very rare outside of Ranger’s MT ? Nothing would overwrite your precious fire and water combo fields.
For group reflection – that’s why I suggest shorter duration or vigor. Both would be very interesting to play with.
And not only blasts are combo finishers, mind you.

like area immobilize after blast finisher for 1 or 2 seconds?!?
sure pretty much all earth related skills do already do something like knockdown or immobilize but.. it just fits well xD
I’m not talking about ""my precious fields", i’m just saying that in a zerg situation protection uptime is already high enough, aoe reflects would hurt ranged specs ( ranger even) even more, and vigor stacking isn’t really Anet’s cup of tea, see the nerfs to vigor on crit traits. In solo, rangers won’t benefit from it since you need blast finishers/leaps/ any kind of finisher.

There are a few leaps, a blast, a whirl, and (most pointless) projectile finishers, also pets have finishers as well not many are F2 skills so it does require some addition effort on the part of the player to attempt to make use of the pets ’finishers.
Blast Finisher: Area protection 3 seconds.
Leap Finisher: Self magnetic aura 3 seconds.
Projectile Finisher: Cripple shot 1 second.
Whirl Finisher: Cripple whirl 1 sec each.
So, warhorn 5 gives 3 sec protection, gs 3 gives a magnetic aura. Still not much. I know the ranger skills, i’ve all classes to 80, but apart from the cripple shot, everything is group oriented, since 3 sec of protection is too much, if it ever comes, you’ll need at least a few blasts to have the full effect. It’s not like you could use muddy terrain+ Warhorn 5 to counter a burst, both cast times are too long for a quick protection counter. The magnetic aura is interesting by design, but i don’t feel like it would fit in actual gameplay. More ways to gain auras or boons are a good idea to up ranger, but first it doesn’t really need a buff in solo setting, and doing so by blast finishers and combo fields is unecessary. If anet ever put a earth field, i’ll use it just as i use the others, but that’s not something i’m looking forward.

I was a bit surprised they never implemented an earth field… I mean, just look at ele attunements. You’ve got fire, water, air (lightning), but poor old earth got the shaft.
Maybe they figured it was sort of covered by the poison fields? Weakness is associated with earth-based skills, although poison never has been.
In your suggestions, I’d probably change the cripple durations to 2 seconds, and maybe reduce the AoE protection to 2 seconds.
In any case, we probably have just as many chances as seeing an earth field as we doing seeing a new race implemented, but it’s still a good idea.

Stop spreading such propaganda. It’s well known that they also push 2 and 3 with about 25% of the frequency that they push 1… there’s also the occasional 4, and even a 5 now and again if they’re feeling frisky.

And now tell me how Spirit Ranger with shortbow (lol, does anyone even play it anymore?) would be able to constantly deliver Blast Finishers into amazing duration and radius of quicksand ? You’re biased and speak about generalize Ranger into that laughable spec.
Every profession has at least one spec that handicapped chimpanzee can play. For Engineer it’s Turret and Condi, for Ranger it’s Spirits.
