EDIT: to be clear, this isn’t a thread “picking on” mesmers. This is a thread criticising Anet’s ability to balance and introduce fair traits given the sheer volumes of feedback they’ve been getting.

Doubling the enemy’s cooldowns on interrupt? I…I just can’t.

It hasn’t even been implemented yet and everyone can already see it’s going to be overpowered. Mesmers don’t NEED such an unnecessarily powerful buff – they’re one of the top classes right now with the utility, sheer amount of stealth and frankly frustrating amount of clones they have making them one of the worst professions to 1v1 with. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying they are overpowered as things currently stand.

But it’s not just the mesmer trait either…. Guardians getting THREE THOUSAND more HP at level 80?

What do Rangers get? 2x faster arrows. Something so simple that should be implemented as standard, and not brought in as a Grandmaster trait. I know these are just 1 of several new traits, but it just goes to show Rangers are on the verge of being shafted once again. It also shows that little attention has been paid to the discussion of Ranger bows in the CDI.

I don’t really mind the guardian trait since they have to give up battle presence or pure of voice, which is a pretty nice trade off imo. Though I have to agree that mesmers are extremely frustrating to fight with the introduction of a useful PU, but I’ll still give this trait a shot.

Have you ever played a lockdown mesmer? It has quite a high skill cap to it. If they’re able to interrupt your key skills, I’d say that they deserve the reward for doing so.

Also the guardian trait isn’t going to make much of a difference seeing as they put it into honor. Guardians that go into honor will have no need for extra vitality.

I’m trying to reserve judgment, but I have a feeling that professions, combat, conditions, cc, burst mechanics, stealth, …, …, … are going to get much worse before they get better.

Sorry, I have to lol…
If it would somehow make us shoot faster, or reducing CD or something, it might be, but all that it does is make LB arrows fly faster so that foe will not just have to sidestep to avoid them… LB should have an integrated way of making sure people can’t just WASD to avoid damage… not through a GM trait…

Finally a trait that brings back a bit of the GW1 Mesmer we know and love (or hate).
This will make lockdown builds more attractive, and that’s a good thing. People were ranting about low-skilled PU and phantasm builds all the time.

Also, you might wanna be a bit more precise about the trait, to prevent some possible confusion. It’s doubling the interrupted CD (which is only 5s at the moment), not the CD of the interrupted skill itself.

It is a strong trait for 1v1s indeed, but don’t forget that it’s replacing another trait in the Mesmers build. I wouldn’t consider this a buff, it’s rather a different type of interrupt/lockdown build now coming up. Unfortunately, this trait will do nothing to help the Mesmer fighting classes they struggle the most, talking primarily about thieves here of course.

Anet hates [your class], since [other classes] got buffs while [your class] only received nerfs.

I do see it as overpowered. As I said, ranger is so crappy that it won’t matter. Throw this trait on any other class and it would be broken. It’s a point that doesn’t need to be made, but I was sort of just stating how I think it’s extremely powerful but lack luster on ranger.

If ranger actually had some meaningful longbow skills you would agree < the problem. Thanks to this trait the longbow will probably forever be exactly what it is, Terrible.

This doesnt increase longbow attack speed just the projectile movement, who cares if the Arrow is harder to dodge longbow deals so little damage nobody will ever bother to even dodge it o_O they need to change this trait to ‘’increase longbow attack speed by 25%’’ and name it ‘’wild quiver’’ because nobody will ever bother to get this trait in the first place. Im still waiting to see what skirmish and beastmastery will offer.

If this is targeted towards me, I was just pointing out that mesmers are already frustrating to fight so it can’t get much worse. I should probably start articulating my ideas better lol.

No it doesn’t, you dodge through auto-attacks, LoS block with your clones, and always make sure to save one interrupt for the heal skill. The mesmer certainly tends to be a more difficult class (other than clone-death spam builds) but other than the additional interrupts it’s pretty much the standard mesmer fare.

That said, I don’t think this trait is a bad idea, however going from five second to ten is going to be overpowered. An extra 2 or 3 seconds on interrupt is a lot more feasible, or having it work with an internal CD.

I second this… we will not shoot more arrows in the same timeframe, they’ll just get to their target faster, making them harder to side step… wouldn’t be complaining if it also increased attack speed…

I’d like to raise a valid question. Projectile speed being increased would mean that target would be able to dodge double the amount of shots in a single dodge roll? From what I’ve seen dodge acts like the evade mechanics that a variety of weapons have. As in you don’t just dodge the first attack but every subsequent attack while the dodge animation is rolling. So if projectiles travel twice as fast and you pop rapid fire… well, you see where I’m getting.

So who here thinks that the double recharge on interrupts is not going to have in ICD? lol we’re talking about a game where only maybe 4 or 5 decent and popularly used traits doesnt have an ICD. ITs not liek their just gonna faceroll across interrupts and poof all ur skills are on 10 second recharge. Everyone wants to complain about it before they even know what it is.

Side note: did anyone even play GW1??

Answer is no. Not if only that trait is used…

Yea I didn’t consider that, even with Rapid fire it would still be the same as the total channel will remain the same. Well in that case it is a good trait, but honestly, this shouldn’t even be a trait but god given mechanic from lvl 1. I actually started just AD-ing like mad whenever a ranger comes my way with a LB and just fire back with the sbow watching that poor soul trying to hit me while I’m tearing him a new rear. It’s just sad… I don’t even have to dodge as long as he’s not in my face I can just skip 70% of his arrows. Sounds like “working as intended” mechanic right?

This is true, but if it has an ICD the trait is useless. Interrupting a heal is probably the most important interrupt you could possibly go for, but if you wasted it to avoid being hit by a large attack, this trait would have difficulty being justified as even an adept.

It probably won’t have an ICD (only one interrupt trait has an ICD). If it has any ICD longer than a few seconds, the trait will be awful.

The interrupt playstyle involves setup interrupts (usually against weapon skills) that lead to a clutch interrupt (usually against a heal or an elite).

If the trait has an ICD, it will almost always apply to a setup interrupt and never to a clutch interrupt, making the trait much less effective.

PU is the source of 90% of the QQ about mesmers. Realize that you will almost never see a PU mesmer with 30 in Dom, which means just about any time you fight a mesmer with this they are going to be pretty squishy.

Most people read this thread and imagine a PU mesmer in and out of stealth all the time with perma regen-aegis-prot now throwing down all these fat interrupts with this new grandmaster trait. That is not going to happen. In order to really utilize the new interrupt trait you have to have certain weapons and certain utilities. It’s not going to PU mesmers locking people down with this trait.

In fact I seriously doubt most players have ever fought a mesmer with 30 in Dom. It’s radically different from fighting PU, so just relax it will be ok.

It is FAR better than the one Ele got. The class that needs sustain…gets a healing bonus to everyone BUT the ele…

We are the only ones that get a trait that has NO affect on us what so ever.

It does require they go 30 int domination, which I don’t think it very common. The only time I’ve ever used it is in a mantra build, and I wouldn’t be able to take this trait if I wanted harmonious mantras.

I’m wondering if they’ll put like a 5-10 second ICD on it so you can’t just spam some interrupts… not that they’re that spammable in the first place.

This is true, but if it has an ICD the trait is useless. Interrupting a heal is probably the most important interrupt you could possibly go for, but if you wasted it to avoid being hit by a large attack, this trait would have difficulty being justified as even an adept.

OR the ICD could be short like 5 seconds. This would discourage the random spam of interrupts in an attempt to get lucky and drive home the importance of interrupting the right skills while the trait is active. Sounds mysteriously like rewarding skilled gameplay to me. I realize that concept is a foreign one in a game littered with PU mesmers, Hambow/condi warriors and spirit rangers, but i digress.

All this talk about “spamming interrupts”… let’s take a look:

Diversion: Instant, ~30-45 sec cd depending on traits
Mantra of Distraction: Instant, 10 sec cd between charges
Offhand Sword daze (not instant): ~10-15 sec cd depending on traits
Greatsword Wave: (not instant) ~28 sec cd if treated
Focus Pull: (not instant)~28 sec cd if treated (I think, but close to that)
Signet of Domination: (not instant) ~35-45 sec cd depending on traits
Offhand Pistol: (not instant) ~24 sec if traited

For the impaired: You cannot have all of these at the same time, this is just all that exist.

So at best you have a subset of the above, only two of which are instant, and Diversion only if you or a clone is right next to the target, so really the only reliably instant interrupt we have is MoD, a mantra, which makes it a pain to equip.

As far as even calling something that isn’t instant an interrupt, I think that’s debatable, but even so the mesmer put one of his skills on a cd to put one of yours on a cd of equal or less duration…how is that unfair? It’s not like the mesmer didn’t give something up to put your skill on a short 10 sec cd, it’s 1 for 1.

Yes, I used a skill to put one of your skills on cool down for 10 seconds. Now for the next 10 seconds we each have one less skill to work with. This is OP how?

The only exception is if your heal got interrupted, which again is your own kitten fault for knowing you’re fighting a mesmer and 1) waiting till you need the heal to use it and/or 2) not taking some measures to cover your 1 sec heal cast.

So maybe if you cycle through all your interrupts, assuming you’ve just tried to equip as many as possible, you can spam what, 5, and then all those skills are on cd. If they ended up interrupting 5 skills on the opponent, well it just means they were sitting there spamming their crap too and shouldn’t be complaining.

People need to just calm down about this trait. It’s 30 points in Dom, there is no way people are going to cry about this half as much as PU.

It is FAR better than the one Ele got. The class that needs sustain…gets a healing bonus to everyone BUT the ele…

We are the only ones that get a trait that has NO affect on us what so ever.

Guardians have had traits like that since launch, and get along just fine…

Wait to cry after the patch… There are 40 new traits, meaning rangers might be able to pick up one trait which MAY synergize well with faster arrow projectile trait. We’ll be able to find out more tomorrow at noon on the guild wars 2 twitch channel. Also many of you don’t seem to keep in mind no one can go 30/30/30/30/30. That being said this new trait on mesmer doesn’t sound like it will make them more OP, just different.

reason why mes are skilled palyers…we can make a class work with over 20 bugs(some of them really big bugs)

That isn’t a Mesmer buff, it’s an everything else nerf. Will they be allowing people to do a race change so the big races don’t get totally kittened by this?

lol so u think that being a veilbot is makeing mesmers great in wvw. im not talking about roaming. mes is a good 1v1 class, but we lack group builds. if u ever played a mes in an organized guild group vs larger zerg, then u would understand what im talking about.
and this is 1 trait and honestly i get perma interrupted by thieves and war and engi and this is still nowhere near as strong as a war immobilize or a 20s chill or stun or anything like the current cc. what it does is, it brings us a better way to get a real role into a group. atm wvw is dominated by war/guard/ele. and how is this nerfing every other class again?

lol far from it. The ele trait could at least be of some use to teammates. Read the Winds has no team utility and barely makes the ranger stronger. It forces us to waste a Grandmaster Trait to compensate for a game engine fault that borders on a mechanical failure. Why waste endurance when you can just side step to avoid arrows that do crap damage at any range but maximum?

It also don’t help that the bow, and this trait, is near pointless when the enemy inevitably gets into melee range with the buttload of gap closers in the game. It also only really affects the Long bow. The short bow is often used too close for arrow speed to be an issue and the axe doesn’t fire arrows.

As i said. The class needs sustain and they get a trait that has NO affect on them at all. At least Ranger trait affects the ranger. The ele on has NO use to the ele what so ever. They are just trying to turn ele in the “healing” class….Something they said they didnt want.

So them saying they know we need sustain and THIS is what we get…
I guess we can wait for the other traits, but i have a feeling none of them will be that great.
