ANET/GW2 – DEVS:

Several problems resulted after Dhuumfire was added, as several other skills were nerfed to compensate for our increased condition damage (not something most of us fought). That said, as a consequence of the increased firepower of dhuumfire, those of us, who enjoy running conditionmancers, were (to some degree) forced to run dhuumfire to compensate for the nerfs to other condition application abilities in order to remain viable.

Thus, in light of the impending move of Dhuumfire to DS 1 (a more skill based approach), I query if Anet has considered maintaining Dhuumfire as a trait. In the event Anet decides to maintain Dhuumfire as a trait adding burning to DS1, perhaps a further consideration would be to move the trait out of the Spite traitline and make it a curses MASTER level trait, which will put it into competition with terror (though both could still be taken if you wnated to run a terrormancer).

As a result, not only would it make more sense, it would increase build diversity for conditionmancers. In addition, it would cut down on community cries regarding condition duration, as most condi masters would no longer run 30 points into Spite to acquire dhuumfire, which concequently drasticaly increases condition duration. In other words, conditionmancers would not be locked to running 30 into trait to remain competitive, and the community as a whole would not experience drastic increases in condition duration which impacts the condi-meta as a whole.

We, the community, also realize that you would be forced to develop an additional spite trait to compensate for the removal of dhuumfire, and would compete with close to death, which almost is a must if one takes certain power builds (30 in spite). This may also be of interest, given the impending nerf to critical dmg builds, which will drastically impact power necros. I have no current suggestions, but I imagine the necro community would be willing and more than able to provide useful suggestions. Most of the necro community take a very balanced approach to the necro, albeit in a negative way at times (we are necros)

The move of dhuumfire to DS1, with a simultaneous shift of the trait into the master level trait (similar to the master level engineer burning trait) would open up build diversity in cond builds by not forcing us to move 30 points into spite to remain damage oriented. Furthermroe, it maintains the idea that dhuumfire application is a skill based trait, and not just a apply on crit.

Thus 0/30/30/0/10 or 0/30/10/0/30, or 0/30/10/30/0 builds would be viable once again, as condi builds would not be forced to go into spite to pick up dhuumfire to compensate for all the nerfs to our other condition application abilities.

I for one would love to run a 0/30/0/10/30 build or a 0/30/10/0/30 build to see if I could run stability on a condition builds without being kitten. the latter build seems interesting because I could maintain my condition damage in DS (burning – DS1, bleed DS2, and DS5 (torment) while slapping a stability mechanism. Would also make it more interesting that i did not get punted around if i wanted to fire off DS1 and DS3 combination. Would help with our susceptibility to CC.

Appreciate any community input.

That.. is a wall of text and i browsed trough there and the suggestions seem reasonable.

It really seemed logical to me. That said, I am not sure what the rest of the community would think of the change to dhuumfire and trait move. I would appreciate an honest discussion from the necro community, or the community that has to fight necros.

— sorry for the above wall of text.

I’d rather they changed the Dhuumfire trait, but not by chaining it to Life blast.

My suggestion would be to change Dhuumfire for:
Inflamed Wounds – Whenever a Necromancer would achieve a multiple of 7 ( + or -, only playtesting can find the right amount) stacks of bleeding he also inflicts 3 seconds of burning on his target.

This adds more active play and counterplay compared to just adding burning to life blast AND solves the lore issue of a trait coming from Dhuum.

Attrition – A pretty name for taking longer than anyone else to kill something.

There’s still about a day left on the Traitworks Spite poll, so I don’t want to directly comment on the results yet, but you might be surprised – I was.

I support the idea of moving Dhuumfire to Curses master. Like you said, making Dhuumfire compete with Terror forces better build crafting, and having it not require its own 30 points allows for better build diversity. The question is, though, what Curses master trait to remove for it?

Your point about which master level curses trait to remove, or shift is valid. I had considered suggesting placing terror at grandmaster, but then it competes with the two worthy grandmaster traits. In addition, ANET would still be forced to come up with a good grandmaster spite trait.

I am neutral with regard to the utility of Dhuumfire. While it did boost our condition damage ability, it ended up nerfing other condition application abilties, and essentially forced most to use dhuumfire to remain valid. Initially, I thought dhuumfire gave me what I wanted, an additional bleed cover and a damage boost. Thus if someone used a cleanse, my bleeds had a chance to stay on with an additional condition. However, I think the damage (initially, was a bit high, though it has been reduced now). Thus, if they elect to change dhuumfire to another type of damage condition, that covers my bleeds and allows me to continue to do acceptable damage, then I would be happy.

Dhuumfire as it is now is not over the top, but the combination of the added 30% condition duration (which you get as a concequence of going 30 into spite), on top of prolonging all my other conditions is what exacerbates the situation. Perhaps it was an unintended concequence, as 3 seconds of burning becomes ~4 seconds with the 30% duration boost. Moving it to curses, eliminates the automatically added second .

You still can go 30 into spite if you want to get the 30% condition duration, but I feel pretty safe in estimating that most conditionmancer would elect not to go 30 in spite for more useful builds/traits to up survivability to account for our complete lack of mobility.
