Profession balance
Well, to achieve good balance, it’ll take time, and sometimes it cannot be done without messing up something else.
But when talking about dungeons and old group content, they should be updated to be impossible to do with full-berserker-team and contain active combat abilities…
Necromancer as they are, they possess alot of conversion powers, but mobs rarely have boons or heavy condition designs…
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

They should at least try to though :/ It’s incredibly disappointing that balance is this poor.
I think so too IMO, these new LS mordrem mobs are a good start for that too. I have no issues with zerker gear, but people shouldn’t be able to just blow through everything with it.
You could easily give reflection to engineers in the form of a utility force field or bubble, and the same for rangers as well. Lack of cleave, reflects, or mass group support is a problem that needs to be addressed.
What??? When I do fractals as my engi I’m used as a reflect slave for dredge and harpy. With 12 seconds of reflection or projectile block from toss elixir U and a 4 second reflect bubble per turret from Fortified Turrets trait, I can do a pretty darn good job blocking projectiles. On top of that, if I detonate all my turrets and use my shield #4 and big-o-bomb and I can spike heal or stack might. I can also stack stealth using the field from smoke bomb (which is great AoE blind by the way) This is all one build.
Rangers can stack 9 stacks of might, swiftness, and fury along with having spotter & frost spirit while having ally heals (amazing water field) and condi removals through the nose. They can also reflect by using one of their axe skills all in one build. The only one I’d say that needs work is necro, which pretty much lacks all of these things.
Both classes can do these things without significant DPS loss.
So please Anet, either nerf the warriors, eles and guardians who are supposedly so far above the rest of us, or buff everyone else up to par.
NO! Nerfing perfectly fine classes is not the way to do things. Not only are most of these classes in a good place ( eh, warrior could use a nerf or two.. because it’s that unbelievably OP) it will just make those people have to feel the pain of us lesser classes. What if poor ele’s get discriminated? Do you know how hard it is to play an ele? They deserve the rewards for their efforts and should not have that taken away. FGS is their thing, man. Most of the time it doesn’t even work because the rest of the team is kiting everything.
I agree with your last bit, they need to buff everyone else instead of nerfs.Though engi and ranger seem to be pretty good already, especially with the future update. It’s mostly a mentality issue, people just need to pay attention to what these classes have to offer when played correctly AND people need to play them correctly so people can notice in the first place.

the problem is not in the professions the problem is the dungeons in this game you need to stay in the wall and dps the group of monsters or boss till them or he die… all dungeons in this game need to be remade till the point that you cant stay in the wall to kill all and all party go full berserk… firesword need to have a remake… that skill is just stupid, the dungeons take 0 skill to complete and strategy.
They should remake all dungeons to make all classes be needed to make them, is not that rangers are bad… the “problem” is the pet that make the boss in the wall and lure kitten that your party dont want to be lured, the problem is not the necro, the problem is the condition system they had implemented in this game and btw you dont need conditions when all you need is to be in the wall and dps all the monsters in 2 or 3 seconds, you dont need someone tanky, or someone that do heals or protections, or conditions dmgs, or have a pet that could do buffs or tank the boss’s, you dont need turrents ALL YOU NEED is to have a profession that could stay in the wall take a firesword and kill all
lol but srly the dungeons in this game… are so broken lol i dont see this in any good mmo, stay in the wall and kill all
so thats it thats my opninion they need to remake the dungeons to make other professions good and nerf firesword…
just to end it they remake the spider in AC so that even in the wall she now make that aoe that make alot of dmg but you know what? we just need to be in the wall have a firesword and its done in 1 sec thats your problem
regards
Perhaps you should leave your feedback in the specific threads addressing the new profession balance changes for Ranger, Engineer, Thief and Warrior they have released. Pretty sure they are over in the Profession Balance sub-forum. That’s where the Devs are looking for feedback on the changes.
FGS 4 just needs a major skill rework. The fact that you do more damage NOT hitting anything and running into a wall is dumb. Remove damage from trail, make it only give the burning debuff and instead move the damage to the actual attack. There i fixed an exploited in 5 seconds.
and what about Thief?Skiping yes…they just run through with stability…With thief in pve you have chance only by soloing the content(which you can) then sell.

Toss elixir u is unreliable for actual reflects, the cooldown is also rather long. Guardians and mesmers both have a reliable reflect (that is always a reflect) that isn’t on a huge cooldown that can be traited for an even shorter cooldown (I know that guards at least can do this).
Oh qq “muh skillcap”. I main an engineer, we are just as, if not more complicated than eles. To top it off, ele’s don’t really have to learn to play their entire class for dungeons and whatnot. They can just equip ice bow and fgs, run into walls with the fgs, and stay in fire attunement 24/7 so fire fields can be blasted. Skillcap isn’t a reason to leave a mechanic broken or a class OP either. If that where the case eles and engineers would be the top classes in this game. Nerfing those classes to be on par with the other ones wouldn’t make them feel are pain, it would make all classes be at a similar powerlevel. So less discrimination would happen.
Honestly, those updates will help, but not to the degree that we really need. Yeah we engis get a blast finisher on ft kit (the kit will still have horrid dps regardless) and rangers get an improved signet, but those still don’t bring us on par. Even with those updates guardians will still continue to bring reflects and nearly every boon in the game, warriors will still crit 20k with 100b and have better utility in the form of banners, eles will still get to faceroll in fire attunement… Do you get my point? Having such a large balance difference so that full on elitism happens is blatant proof that balance is garbage. If a class is so inefficient, even in full zerker, that it can’t compete with the others built the same way, it needs buffed.
I suggest evening the playing field by first giving professions like the ranger, engineer and the necromancer the mechanics that other classes are brought into dungeons for. I’m mainly referring to cleave and reflects.
I disagree. ANet should create a demand for what those professions are good at.
Necros are good at condi, but no one need condis in dungeons. If ANet makes condi useful, necros will be very useful.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

yep, sometimes I wonder if anet manages to make a bunker decap engineer optimal for an dungeon.
Maybe necro needs to be nerfed because they are so OP in PvP. You want to balance around dungeons but others want to balance around PvP. If they all get “balanced” for all the different content pretty soon all professions with be the same.
and what about Thief?Skiping yes…they just run through with stability…With thief in pve you have chance only by soloing the content(which you can) then sell.
To be honest, I always saw thieves as a dungeon niche pick that people use instead of a warrior for more single target dps. They aren’t one of the big three, but they aren’t looked down upon much either. You have a voice too though if you feel like thieves have issues in PvE or in general.

They should be balanced for each different type of play IMO. PvE balance, PvP balance, and WvWvW balance. The point I am trying to get across is that all classes need to be able to at least compete with each other. This game boasts about how all classes can perform all facets of gameplay well (dmg, control, support), but in reality the difference in performance is so different that elitism exists. Even if utilities are not added, the numbers should at least come out similarly for all the classes.

Condi will never be as useful in dungeons as straight up burst damage until the condition cap is removed or they give bosses and mobs more armor/health all around to make condi the only way to kill them viably. Mordrem mobs are a good example of this where condi removal and placement is needed. Husks do this well too.
Removing the condi cap would make the servers blow up with info and I highly doubt anet will place mobs like that in all the dungeons.

I honestly don’t understand the whole profession issues people have. I have done dungeon runs now with plenty of parties with necros and rangers and engis and we did just fine. It’s the few groups who like their runs to go an expected way. If you don’t want to go on a speed run, don’t try to join on your necro. The normal parties I have found are usually welcoming of any profession, so I think you are basing your complaints on the forums and not what happens in game.
There is no profession issue that is big enough to change the whole battle mechanism from gw2 to holy trinity. Sure necro’s can’t cleave, rangers can’t range, but those are only required in speedrun/smooth run. Make your own lfg, get to know people who hate meleeing, and run dungeons/fractals with them.
Stop trying to turn gw2 into another holy trinity game because there are plenty out there. I don’t want a healer, or a dps, or even a tanker. I want to play with active combat system with competent gamers who learn to dodge and heal themselves at the right moment.
Anet, please begin doing balance patches more frequently than every six months so that classes in PvE could begin to see some semblance of balance. At the moment it feels like you’re trying to keep the non fotm dungeon professions in a lesser state than the other ones and it makes us have to face a lot of discrimination in game for it.
I suggest evening the playing field by first giving professions like the ranger, engineer and the necromancer the mechanics that other classes are brought into dungeons for. I’m mainly referring to cleave and reflects. At the moment necromancers have decent dagger dps but no cleave to go with it (no other of their weapons have it either) so cleave would help them become more efficient. You could easily give reflection to engineers in the form of a utility force field or bubble, and the same for rangers as well. Lack of cleave, reflects, or mass group support is a problem that needs to be addressed.
Next, I would cut the damage on some of the moves like fiery rush on fgs (this is kittening broken and you know it) and 100 blades. Or you know, nerf the top classes so they’re on line with the bottom ones. Or buff the bottom ones so that they can compete the ones on top.In the end, I don’t care about how Anet does it. I’m just sick of being discriminated against for playing my favorite classes (I main engineer and necro). It’s not even just the elitists anymore, so many people now have this set idea in their mind that these three classes are complete kitten and should never be allowed in groups because they will extend the run for 50+ min. In other words, this anti necro engi ranger filth has spread to the normal masses
So please Anet, either nerf the warriors, eles and guardians who are supposedly so far above the rest of us, or buff everyone else up to par.
You assume a lot here. A.Net collects reams of data on how much damage the various professions do. What damage they take AND what can be done to balance them. While they do listen to players, most of the data they have states objectively what needs to be in balance. They do test as they do have an Alpha server but only special people test it.
Engi’s and Necros are already some of the most powerful professions in the game, period. If you think they are not, you are mistaken.
If you are discriminated against – move to another server or try a different build. When I play my Engi – I don’t see anything that you are seeing. Must be your build.

The sheer fact that elitism against these classes exists proves that they aren’t where they need to be in regards to the other ones in terms of utility and damage. Guardians are borderline mandatory for Wall of Reflection, Aegis and all the boons and kitten they bring along. Warriors have fantastic group support with banners, and Ele’s can charge at a wall with their broken little fgs and stay in fire for all of eternity and hit like a truck.
What do the rest of us get? Bugged out mechanics and less utility overall. I just want engis, necros, and rangers to be able to compete and not be considered possible hindrances in groups.

If they are some of the most powerful professions in the game right now then why are they not allowed into a lot of groups? Something has to be wrong here for them in PvE. I think that in PvP they’re all far from mediocre, and in WvW necros destroy people. Dungeons and general pve though? No.
The mentality that certain classes are garbage exists across the servers. I run a nade/bomb engineer dude, it’s not my build. I’m running the most standard engi build there is.

Any team setup can have a smooth run. It’s just a matter of team coordination and common sense. Weapon/class/armour choice has no baring on how smooth a run is. Smooth runs are merely runs where nothing goes horribly wrong, with no baring of speed or efficiency. Speedruns are the only thing that require certain team setups, and only because the community has set a benchmark for ideal run times. This idea that you need X comp for things to go smoothly needs to go, it only serves to harm the community.
Anyways, who needs to make the game trinity to make other classes wanted. They just need to add some new types of challenges to future content. Things like Point holding endurance challenges or, for necro, mobs with lots off boons. If they had mobs with high Protection, Regen, Stabilty and Retal uptime, I’d think boon corruption would start to look appealing. Also, as they’ve gone and added a cleave to Thief’s dagger, why don’t they add one to Necro’s too, but ideally more than 2 targets at a time? It’s on the table now.

I have been in speed runs with Engi and necros. It is the other players problems not yours. It has nothing to do with the design of the game and everything to do with the player meta out in the game. There are plenty of viable builds but many players only see ‘Zerker’ as the only viable build – their problem not the game’s.
You can have a speed buff as an engineer but you have to compromise for it in your build as other professions have to do. This is a basic philosophy of the game. If you don’t like that, then really, this game is not for you.

I’ve highlighted these two snippets of your post, because I’m not sure you realize how you’ve contradicted yourself here.
If the game rewards zerker only behavior, then the problem is the game’s design philosophy. ThePvE content is designed around very basic mechanics that warriors, guardians, and eles excel at exploiting. Why bring rangers, necros or engineers to any PvE content when warriors, eles, and guardians do it better? That’s the point. Rangers, necros and engineers need to be as effective (we’re not talking viable here, a armless toddler is viable PvE in this game).
Why are you so against a level playing field for all classes? I honestly don’t understand why some people abhor balance.

There is better balance in this game than many others. Just go to WvW or sPvP to see that. PvE will never have a balance since there are so many situations where one profession is better than others.

Speed buffs? What? I run the most metaish build that engis can run (rifle+nades+bombs) it’s what any engi worth their weight in salt takes into groups (the other base weapon sets are okay too, mainly referring to the kits).
Hell, I’m not even talking about builds man, I’m talking about how three classes in this game are 1000x more effective than the other ones and how the ones who are not as good in PvE need to be brought up to that level.

Sorry, I’m going to butt into your conversation. It’s not like these situations differ, all the dungeons are run the same in this game. The encounters are all similar so what is good for one thing is never really worse for another. Right now eles warriors and guards are good for everything in pve with no real drawbacks for picking them. What would honestly be wrong with giving the other classes the tools to be just as effective as them?

Sure necro’s can’t cleave, rangers can’t range, but those are only required in speedrun/smooth run. Make your own lfg, get to know people who hate meleeing, and run dungeons/fractals with them.
Stop trying to turn gw2 into another holy trinity game because there are plenty out there. I don’t want a healer, or a dps, or even a tanker. I want to play with active combat system with competent gamers who learn to dodge and heal themselves at the right moment.Reading comprehension where? I never said I wanted a holy trinity, I said I want Anet to bring up the classes that are not allowed in speed runs/discriminated against up to par with the ones that aren’t.
There are plenty of viable builds but many players only see ‘Zerker’ as the only viable build – their problem not the game’s.
The game doesn’t just reward zerker, although many players THINK it does. That is why I stated there are many different types of builds, players are discriminating not the game. There is nothing that A.Net can do to change the game besides removing ‘zerker’ to change players minds
There is better balance in this game than many others. Just go to WvW or sPvP to see that. PvE will never have a balance since there are so many situations where one profession is better than others.
Did you really just try to back up your post by saying PvP is balanced?! REALLY? Wow. Have you spent more than 10 minutes in sPvP? Talk about delusional.
PS: The game most assuredly does reward berserker play. You can accomplish the same things as any non-berserker group in a fraction of the time since the game’s mechanics don’t require anything other than DPS racing. Trying to claim otherwise is being intentionally obtuse.
