Profession choice
Warrior/Guardian. Stay away from Ranger/Necromancer.
I personally would do with the following:
Simply test every profession in spvp. You only need to do the tutorial then you can switch to spvp and test every profession. You will only miss 1 healing skill (most of those are worthless anyway) and 5 grandmastertraits (some which a good but also many bad ones) per profession.
But if i would have to pick a profession based on what you want, i would probably go with guardian or warrior.
If you want to support , A properly Traited and stated Ranger or necro can be great support those these two classes are more like Burst support and only work in certain situations .
any class can be build for support in different ways.
Guardains are great support too as the Class machanic is pretty much Able to be Traied for anything from Damage to support (regeneration) and the Utlity they have are support based at its core.
If it’s pve, the only class I would advise against playing is necro atm (at least if you want to do dungeon/fractals). That isn’t to say you couldn’t get through that content playing a necro, but they really do not bring much to the table in terms of team synergy.
Honestly, your biggest mistake with this game is thinking of it functioning like WoW, each class here is the trinity within itself and you don’t have to gear specifically for a role separately. Most encounters can simply be overcome with superior firepower (once you learn the encounter) severely limiting your need for any kind of defensive stats on gear. The good news is, even going glass cannon you can support just as well as you would be even if you tried to build specifically for support. Confused yet? Stay with me!! Support in GW2 is not like traditional support in most games IE you are not nor will you ever be able to heal someone enough to allow them to soak constant damage no matter how much healing power you put on your gear. You can support through boon sharing, condi removal, reflect walls, team stealth, reviving downed players so on and so forth. As far as cc goes, it’s of very limited usefulness in pve in a large majority of situations you will encounter since most of the time the things you would want to cc are immune and the things that are not immune don’t need to be cc’d since they can just be steamrolled.
Right now, if you don’t mind being a flavor of the month class, ranger is fairly ridiculous and is pretty much guaranteed a spot in any group that is worth it’s salt. Ultimately though, best suggestion I can make is to create a character with whatever class you want to try out, take it to the heart of the mists lobby and go test it on the npc mobs there. Doing this will let you get a feel for how they might play and whether you think it’s something you will enjoy.

If you want to have damage, tank and support in one, then FEW setups comes close to my SRB ranger setup. However if you want a class that can build for either and be great . guardian is your choice.
In the end, play what you want.

You might find guardian pretty fun. I really wish I had a guardian but the new leveling system totally killed my will to level another character to 80 lol.
From what OP said, guardians seems his perfect choice.
Despite lacks ranged options.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

sPvP/tPvP/EotM.
First two can be done on a different character. Third one can be done on your intended character.
You can also swap characters at dungeons for completion rewards (70% of current level) or just pay to have dungeon completions (typically the reward gold).
Guardians. For most contents, you can precast aegis and have an approximate timing. Obviously if you go further in high level contents you will need more reactivity. Guardians are a defensive support class, and are a great addition to most runs. Guardian scepter is their first dps weapon against high hitbox targets but even then you’ll be using it in melee. You do have a powerful ranged choice but like every class going melee is always better. They are an heavy armored class, but the hp pool is low (10805 hp, exactly). Their crowd control ability aren’t that bad with hammer 5 and staff 5, but where they really excel is mass blinds and aegis for trash mobs. Their dps is good, and their support is even better.
tl; dr
ranged options: check
heavy armor: check
support: check
buff mechanic, time for planning: check
I think it would suit you the best.
Thanks you everyone!

Probably an ele or guard is what you’re after OP

I’m more a thinker than a reactive one. I need time to react. It means a buff, spell, class mechanic, or armor to not die in three slash.
I think this part of your requirements might mean Warrior is more for you than Guardian. As oxtred pointed out, the base health of the Guardian is the lowest in the game along with the Elementalist and Thief. This means you have to rely more on your active defense (blinds, dodges) as armor does not mean a lot in this game as compared to other MMORPGs. While a Warrior also has to rely on active defenses (as do all professions) they have the highest health in the game which does allow them a bit more latitude in their game play. Their ranged options are also better than a Guardian’s.
Just a thought.
Thanks.

than you can with merely a kind word.”
Well, Necromancers technically have a health pool larger than that of Warriors… :/
i couldnt personnaly run Guardian because of how the class work it just anoy me (save for spirit weapon wich i find funny as hell)
I mained ranger during beta then shifted to MM necro If we talking about running a class as your main however warrior is by far the one wich insert itself everywhere as far as it pains me to admit it. I recommand ranger however if you want a fresh start with something reliable on its own
BM: I want to present you my lovely jingle bear mia
If pet had voices: Mommy, I did it! :3
I would say warrior but it’s core mechanic has been butchered with the last patch and you won’t be able to use it the majority of the time. There are also a bunch of traits and skills that are completely useless at the moment so unless you want to play a class that feels like it is in early beta stages pick something else. Guardian is a good choice from what the OP was describing.
