This skill is absolutly useless in PvE, because:

All mobs…

  • … will be buffed when you turn them into a moa. (More skills, shorter cooldowns, more dmg…)
  • will be mutch faster
  • will be able to daze you

I tried this spell against Liadri the Concealing Dark… DO NOT TRY AT HOME I got a 1hit-charge and was extremely surprised

  • Trashmobs – Are not worth an elite spell that is singletarget…
  • Veterans – Are not worth an elite spell that is singletarget…
  • Elites – Are not worth an elite spell that is singletarget…
  • Champions – lasts ~ 3s… 180s cooldown
  • Legends – doesn’t work at all… 180s cooldown

@ Anet: Could you please explain why it is like this? If it’s because of PvP/WvW then why aren’t there different versions like with confusion and retaliation?

@ Players: Anything else I forgot to mention? Please tell me if you found any place in PvE where you could use moa effective :>

While in general I think it’s ok that not every skill is equally useful in every environment I do question the legitimacy of Moa.

In PvE, as you pointed out, it’s nigh useless due to various limitations.

In PvP on the other hand, it’s as close to an “iWin” button as we have in this game.

That’s a huge discrepancy for a single skill to have, especially an ultimate ability. Time Warp is far better for example, being extremely useful in PvE and still somewhat useful in PvP.

I think it would be best, long term, if Moa was replaced with a more generally useful skill. But then again, Mesmers in general have far better ultimates than most other classes.

Why can’t you just accept that there will always be some skills who are more usefull in PvE than in PvP or the other way round. Moa Morph is just an extreme example of this.

Ranger - Guardian - Warrior - Elementalist - Necromancer - Mesmer
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels

To be fair, when it comes to polymorph skills, this is one of the better design across games. You can actually do something while it is active, unlike other games where you have to sit it out. It’s one of those occasions where the grouped-skillbar system works pretty well.

However, you do have a point to the practical application: would it be more useful if it could change everything for a longer duration, but pick a random transformation (giving a slight chance to actually change the target into something more powerful)?

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

I’m still talking about PvE where this skill either is extremly useless (champs and legends) or is even buffing the mob I transform.

Moa is one of the most worthless, broken and immature elite in game. I don’t get why we don’t have any ’’mesmerising’’ or aoe daze as elite.

It frankly isn’t that good in PvP either except on completely new players who turn into a moa and just stand there.
I’ve killed people in moa/tuna form, it isn’t really that bad to get it put on you.

It’s good for exactly one thing: using on the Maw shaman (it reverts him from his second form to his first form when it wears off, for some reason).
