Maybe a little late in this thread to get started, but here’s why I dislike Rangers in dungeons:

The class is objectively inferior to all other classes; too much of a Ranger’s DPS is bound to its Pet which has serious AI and survivability issues. These issues have been discussed at length so I will not attempt to prove this statement in this post. The Rangers overwhelming inferiority has, in my opinion, been well proven already and a perfunctory search will yield to any doubters substantial evidence backing that claim.

Now, some of the better players have been able to mitigate Ranger’s shortcomings and find builds and playstyles that contribute quite a lot to a group. But those kinds of excellent players are fairly uncommon and tend to gravitate away from Ranger anyway. After all, a Warrior or a Guardian offers better DPS, better support, and better survivability. Good players know this and tend to maximize efficacy even if they aren’t hardcore min/maxers.

What remains are bad to mediocre players who either insist on playing the ranged archetype or simply don’t have much experience with other classes—or both. Those players either want to play the Archer type character or are simply inexperienced with the objective superiority of melee damage—or both. What these players have in common is total ignorance of the Ranger’s shortcomings (that or they don’t care and are happy to be carried through dungeon runs).

Unfortunately for people who main Rangers, they are never really challenged until hitting dungeons. The Living Story is a piece of cake for a Ranger. Bad habits form early when Rangers realize that a Bear is adept at tanking open world/LS content while the Ranger pew pews from afar. These habits die hard and the Ranger’s reliance on the Bowbear crutch is akin to Guardian’s Altruistic Healing: Players believe that because they are often the last man standing they are among the top contributors to the party. This myth is difficult to dispel, particularly if the player neither comes to the forums nor is a member of one of the better guilds.

Consequently, the woes of the Ranger can really be boiled down to a matter of a bad class tending to attract bad or inexperienced players. Good players realize the shortcomings of the class and gravitate away from it. Good players who play Ranger anyway are consequently fairly uncommon. The remaining people who play Ranger do so because they don’t really know any better or because they don’t care—either way, that type of player tends to lack either the knowledge or the impetus to build/play in a way that contributes meaningfully to a dungeon group.

…i did not said that you are a bm bunker but it got his reason why the people dont take to much in bm..it´s nice that your pet deal such a massive dmg but my pet deal a good constant dmg and me much more than you, so it´s a beastmaster build cause i play with my pet and make the dmg together with my pet

in the ends you likely deal a little more damage then me because of the temporary vuln stack and the advantage of behing able to use signet for both you and the pet (signet of the beastmaster should just be removed from the game and be given by default, this has nothing to do with a ’’marksmanship’’ traitline in the first place). I think the builds actualy works similar damage wise save for the fact that since you run vuln people like it more, while my build is likely slightly harder to kill and will likely keep pet alive in most battle effectively running similar damage but less personnal burst (well i like it that way anyway).

WTF !?
i said 1000 times their is no need for mm 30 points so i never got singet of beastmaster and i deal a lot mor dmg than you..you got hugh numbers with SoH and and axe 3..your pet deal a bit more dmg and you deal about..i even dont want to call it dmg.

and with a good group the dmg amount that i deal more will go much higher

and kilandros a war deal not more dmg than a ranger..the warri dmg is on mid tier same like ranger

only 200 power then… no signet of the beastmaster. To wonder where you get to hit harder then me in the first place if you actualy cant go enrage mode to begin with (huge loss of dps already) and run entirely on personnal auto attack (i pull my cooldown in then i switch to sword what is the defrence save for that 200 power you got that my pet has instead and your vuln stack?)

As for pet damage… well theres a LARGE defrence between a pet under ‘’sic em’’ spirit and signet of the hunt and one that doesnt. What utility do you run because i dont think your 200 power makes such a large defrence once we both using a sword and fighting a boss with no vulnerability stack, the damage variation will hardly be that large and i might even actualy be able to outburst at time. Just because i got an axe doesnt mean i constantly run it i swap for cooldowns then set it back in my inventory while gaining might stack and fury from weapon swap its quite interesting.

i dont need to stack vul, that make a engis/wars or ele my personal dps is much higher, i got the frostspirit for the party, personal burst with z4 and pet burst with sic’em, you got not 1 dmg multiplicator in your trait line so, yes i deal much more dmg than you

and i dont know how you want to outburst me, with lb+axe/horn you got no burst even if you pop all your stuff my auto-hits still deal more dmg
again i tell you, it´s okay when you like to play your build, but don´t tell us you deal the same amount of dmg or it´s the same lvl on effective

and weapon swap..every s/wh+s/d take it on cd

LB is my ranged weapon i already told you i run sword/d axe/horn.

You might indeed deal more personnal damage i however cope it with pet damage.

Of course it puts it on the CD meanwhile i have perma 9 might+ on me and my pet + any might stack i proc it. Just as a reminder my pet cause bleed on critical strike and makes about most of my pet strike critical strike (procing fury to both myself and pet makes the cat bleed trait actualy very worthwhile) + it hit way harder then yours does especialy if i use my enlarge signet in conjonction with sic em and frost spirit.

Tbh when they nerf zerker ill likely go rampager and try to mix out a pure condition damage shortbow build with actual pet phys/bleed damage. Doing heavy damage bleed from pets looks very promising post zerker nerf especialy if said pet can actualy back it up with the physical damage to balance things out.
