With game getting better and fear mark, pin down, ranger lonbow shot, flame thrower air push… all getting at leat 3/4s cast animations.

I realy think the rifle also needs this as its 3s / 15s CD knockback is really too much.

Also 20s CD as its a too long kockdown in teamfights.

it’s an instant cast, animation won’t help you. there’s absolutely no reason to put a cast time on it when the skill knocks the engie down as well.

sometimes it even knocks the engie down while the targe is still fine! (hi last stand, hi shared anguish)

it’s honestly one of the best designed skills in the game as it has a risk factor to consider and can’ just be spamed like so many other things.

yea, but an engie using it on a target with stability only has himself to blame for the self knockdown, unless he used it for the cleanse or the opponent’s stability just went up.

Yes I agree I was merely reinforcing you point that its a cc ability that cannot be spammed off CD. Since missing can impact negatively on the engi.

Lol, i don’t even know how this skill is the best designed skill in the game.
The risk is no where close the reward it brings, not to mention the knock down up time is so high.

a good designed skill is a skill which you can react and counter by reading your enemy.
like earth shaker, like eviscrate, like kill shot, like iZerker, mirror blade, pin down, magnet pull, ice grenades and the soon will be long point shot.

not some insta cast i-get-down-too, but-you-get-down longer-so-i-still-get-to-attack-you, not to mention the self knock back already has it’s benefit of curing soft CCs and positioning.

There are a lot of skills without any tell on many different professions, if we want to change those we should take a look at the big picture. Is rifle engineer something that needs to be nerfed? I think it’s pretty ok when played well, but there are so many counters that I just can’t see any reason for nerfing a build that’s mediocre at best.

I’m referring to power engineer but if the problem is with some hybrid version, I wouldn’t know about it. I’m just wondering why does rifle #4 need to be changed? Just because some other skills got nerfed too? Do rifle engineers get anything in return or are they just plain OP the way they are now? Just my opinions on this matter.

As far as what nerfs are going to be applied to them goes, I don’t know what ANet will do, but because these builds do so many things well ANet has a lot of options for the eventual nerfs.

Well, I just thought that the issue with celestial in general was might stacking and some skills that have good direct and condi damage potential. So I don’t think this is the way to fix it, too much “collateral damage”.

I assume your talking about celest rile engi with TK, GK and Elixir S? That has good offense but has one stun break on 60sec cd and almost no condition removal. Its survivability is not on same level as ele and without fire fields its doesn’t stack might like an ele either.

It also has counters Necro, sd Ele, and freaking sb d/x condition ranger are good against them aswell. Also I am starting to see condition mesmers doing quite well against them since the buff to torment on shatter.

A single target, melee range kd that requires stability(plus engi has such limited access to stab) to have no downside. That seems fine. Knockback shot had the great range plus the fact that it looked almost exactly like other arrows unless you saw the little animation. Air blast was also somewhat melee range but it could hit up to 5 targets meaning, unlike Overcharge, it is unlikely to get blocked or obstructed by random things.

Seeing as the main build using rifle(and the one you’re probably complaining about) is cele rifle, it is relevant to note that this build only has 3 attacks that would necessitate a stun break, Supply Crate, Magnet Pull and Overcharge shot. Magnet has a huge telegraph and supply crate is an elite so against such engi the only thing you really need to save your stunbreak for is Overcharge.

I guess I should also note that overcharge removes some CC, but seeing as it is a vital part of many damage rotations, using it purely for cleanse is in most cases a bad idea.

Imho every strong immobilize or knock back (necro fear anyone? ) should have a readable animation like pin down/air blast/point black shot. And not instant stuff.

Adding an animation to it would really throw a wrench(haha :P ) into pretty much all damage rotations in builds with rifles. Maybe if it was AoE or 1200 range like the other things that got animation, but not if its gonna stay single target and especially not if it is gonna keep the self knockback. Without CC like Overcharge and net shot(and both of those are fairly interdependent if you plan on landing the netshot out of melee range anyway) things like grenades become much more difficult to land, especially against other long range fighters. I think rifle is in a perfect place as is. I mean if you were to switch out rifle you could put in shield, which by itself has 2 interrupts, one of which can proc several times and be thrown to proc again, and both of which can be used as an AoE interrupt. I feel all of these skills have appropriate checks and balances keeping them in line but also still useful.

Adding animations to every single interrupt just reminds me of that thread where the person wanted all instant skills to have cast times because you can’t respond to instant skills(even though good players can and will do just that).

I play an engie a lot. Every CC should have a small tell. I don’t think the Op’s complaint is unreasonable. Atm the skill looks just like an autoattack.

We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional

Being able to out think your opponent is also skillful(Prediction=Skill).
Rifle 4 is melee range, it requires a target, can be blocked, dodge, blinded, absorbed by AI, and is self cc. The skill itself is quite balanced.

If you where to change instant cast skills(Thief steal, Ele air burst, Mes daze powerlocketc...)it would make things feel clucky and ruin the pace of the game.
