yes because mesmers are sooo over powered in tournament pvp…..

Mesmers are awesome in tPvP; what do you mean? You want mesmers to be overpowered? There fine where they are; L2P issues detected.

At what point does a competitive team choose to bring a mesmer over another profession? What at current does a Mesmer offer other than Portal that another class does not provide more proficiency in?
Thiefs are brought for Bursts and Roaming to quickly finish fights.
Guards for bunkers and team support.
Warriors for Sustain and high CC upkeep.
Necros for Conditions and Fear.
Engies for their high sustain and CC’s.
Where does Mesmer fit in, in a world that all about staying inside a tiny circle and surviving.

No they should NOT be still allowed to put Auto attacks on a 10 second cool down and anyone that thinks otherwise is just wanting it too easy. The same goes for Ressing and Finishing but i do think that it is about time that Thief got punished like everyone else for having skills getting interrupted, the same goes for Chill. It needs to slow down Initiative regen as well.

A good player is always welcomed in a team, regardless of the class he plays.
Unless you are talking about VERY high end tpvp, in which case I can assure you that the competition in this game has pretty much disappeared one year ago, so it would be pointless to talk about it.
If you’re good, you will be useful. If you’re bad, you will be carried. If you’re bad, but are using a hambow/mm necro/condi engi/spirit ranger, then stop telling your mates that they are the reason because you lose everytime.

So, basically, you have no refute and decided to side-step the question?
The Mesmer is objectively inferior and lacking a place in tPvP. No-one looking to optimize their team’s efficiency is going to take a Mesmer over a Thief. This sugary, ignorance is bliss, “Anything can work if you put in the effort,” rubbish is exactly that.
Sure, it can work, but for twice the effort and half the reward. You can be the most passionate and dedicate player on your team, but an equally skilled Thief will still hard-counter you. You’ll still die to any equally skilled condi bunker. Etc, etc.
People that are against this particular Power Block proposition are justified in being so, but don’t try and justify it by saying the Mesmer is in a good place.

^Exactly this mesmer has suffered so many nerfs mainly based off the QQ of the forum over the last year and mesmer players have been screaming that it will remove the class from the competitive scene well it has; everyone’s condition application has gotten a buff the only “real” buff to mesmer condition removal was moving some traits down. We can’t clear conditions every 2 seconds like eles can now. We have no condition clear in a weapon unless traited (in which case we lose all usefulness to a team because it relies on us taking shattered concentration.) Our “interrupt/lockdown” builds are subpar compared to a warrior who can spam it as well as a decap engi.
So when it comes to roles in tPvp
Bunker-Mesmer has never been able to do this.
Roamer- Portal gives it some leeway for roaming between home and mid every 90 seconds but thief and even ele can do it better other wise.
CC- Warrior, Engineer, Necro anyone?
Burst- Thief, Ele, and with the buff to runes of strength and intro of sigil of paralyzation warriors are even more bursty than before.
Condition- Necros, engineers, rangers all do this easily with little to no effort compared to a mesmer…..
So I will believe people saying mesmer is in a good spot when they give me one role mesmer can do better than other classes.
I have met plenty competitive condition Mesmers on par with Necros, so not sure what isn’t viable about Mesmers…

I have no problems wrecking 2 thieves at once on my mesmer.
maybe your build needs to be reworked
This isn’t an issue of individual skill…. also if you face a team that has more than one thieves it turns into liability.
Two players of the same skill one mesmer one (insert class for role here) will not perform exactly the same… usually the other class will perform the role better than the mesmer. Mesmer was my main for over a year I know the class inside and out.
@Swim
Mesmers are good at interrupts, but interrupting in this game is a pain in kitten, because there are no castbars, and animations (especially on asuras) are usually unreadable. This makes majority of people going for low-risk-low-reward clone/stealth spam builds, complaining about getting low rewards all the time.
Portal, AoE condition removal, AoE boon removal, AoE daze, stealth, many blinks (good vs any melees except thief), decent-good aoe burst (standard staff/gs shatter mes)
While it might not excel at something, it brings a lot of utility even outside of portal and most of it affects more than 1 player.
However, since I dislike the mesmer design itself, I wont judge about whether they are viable or not but you should consider that it does see high level tpvp play, so I guess it is not as bad as the usual mesmer player pretends it to be.
many comments here are like "hmm i don’t play mesmer but mesmers have stuff so they should be fine in competitive team pvp ".so why we need balance then , just give war one button to win , I’m sure u guys are skilled enough to stop them using that button.
and considering even now there are still many players in pvp crying mesmer op simply due to they cant find real mesmer I doubt anet will balance our class in any time soon.
And lets pretend mesmer isn’t that bad as we said since we still have 6/6/6/6/6 build with all portal , nullfield , decoy ,blink ,moa , massive invisibilty in the same time .
After all we are the secret class with too many secret weapons which are never used in high level team pvp.

Yeah that seemed obvious from all the people defending the class.
I personally know several mesmers that are good enough to make the class look overpowered, and I have never had ANY issue fighting as a mesmer. I have no idea why people are considering this class underpowered…

A good player on an inferior class can beat a bad player on a good class. That doesn’t diminish the need to buff the inferior class though.
The upcoming Tournament of Legends should be telling of the state of pvp balance, so we’ll have a fairly objective point of reference soon enough.
Certainly more useful then random forum-goers war-stories of “a friend of mine is good though!”.

Shatter mes…
You mean that thing that get’s 2 shot by thieves or wrecked by conditions?
Why would any sane person running Tpvp bring a shatter mes over a burst thief?
Like all the utility that you listed is useless when the person you are fighting is dead..
And that is something a burst thief can pretty much guarantee.
So why do I need to bring a squishy PREDICTABLE shatter mes?
There was absolutely no reason to change the trait and it was tied to a lot of sacrifice on the Mesmer’s part (you cannot be and do everything). If players in this game aren’t able to cope with being locked out from their autoattacks or one or two skills for ten seconds then that’s truly sad.
Power Block was the one bright spot on a rather dismal Mesmer scene. I think the kittens who say l2p are actually thieves trolling because they like being hyper OP. Underhanded knaves that they are.
