I don’t really see it being a nerf and yes people want AOE to be nerfed in spvp(wvwvw is also pvp!) but that is more with how much damage the AOE abilities does and would require ALOT of rework to profession skills because some classes basicly only have AOE.
The hard cap should get removed though, AI soaking up all aoe is kinda silly. Maybe make AOE ignore the cap vs AI?
Hard cap on aoe is to limit lag. Devs have previously said raising the cap isn’t going to happen.
I wouldn’t mind a test for a week to see what increasing the cap from 5 -10 would accomplish and how badly it would affect the server performance. Surely there must be another way to reduce server side calculations?
Everyone thought culling would never be fixed but look at the magic that Habib did.
The limit for sPVP makes sense due to the fixed nature and limited amount of players on a map but makes absolutely no sense when facing a zerg in WvW, especially if you’re the smaller group and have the skill to beat them.

I would see this make AE quite a bit stronger, really.
I mean, right now I can only proc effects on 5 targets per pulse of an AE. With such a change, I’d have anywhere from 1-100 targets on which to trigger effects.
If nothing else, this guarantees procs of any 5% effect. And that can’t be a good thing in most cases.
There’s also a compounding problem in that WoW’s damage caps don’t work well either. They work well in PvE, yes. But in PvP, you can notice that the AE damage is balanced for a type of combat they don’t have there.
Ofc, GW2 having WvW, it could be balanced out here (in raw damage). But then what would the sPvPers say, usually already being the most vocal minority here? :P
