[PvX] Engineer - Stealth Consistency
If you deal actual damage, you will get revealed. Thieves can do all their BS because the skills don’t actually cause direct damage.

So you think something that triggers from my dodge & causes you dmg should apply reveal on me?
Shouldn’t that apply to deceptive evasion clones as well?

I don’t even think stealth while in combat should be in the game at all.
As far as the clones deal, I can only assume that it works on an entity basis. You reveal because you caused the damage. The mes doesn’t reveal because it was the mob clone that did the damage.
gunk drops stealth if someone walks over it lol

well clones…. they’re not an unrelated entity they are created by mesmer actions… any damage that the clone does is directly related to you… nothing else… if we are following this logic then they should apply reveal buff anyways… I only got a problem with it… there is no consistency ._. and I shouldn’t expect it but geez… it’s kinda annoying cuz I do too think stealth is kinda broken

IMO evasive power keg isn’t even the worst offender. At least you can control that one and use your stealth around it. The reserve mines trait at 15 in explosives screws me way more often than evasive powder keg since it just pops itself out when it’s time, and the mines go every which way.
If mesmers were revealed by their clone attacks, that would just screw them over completely, so that can’t be a thing. I don’t find having it reveal on a shatter as a bad thing (or maybe just on mind wrack and cry of frustration since those do damage).
As for thieves, I’ve never thought the chocking gas and caltrops thing made any sense, although it at least prevents them from screwing themselves over with the uncatchable trait.
If they could make it so that evasive powder keg and reserve mines didn’t reveal the engg, then it would be more consistent across the board… well, aside from the gunk, but that’s more akin to acid bomb.

I totally agree that reserve mines are worse. Not only do you have even less control over them, but they sit around. I’ve purposefully walked over a stealthed eng’s reserve mines later in a fight to reveal him (I’ve used this tatic many times). Unlike the utility skill I can’t even choose to just detonate them all… they just sit there asking to be used against the eng.
That’s not to say the bomb on dodge doesn’t cause problems though… but at least with those the eng can choose not to dodge. There are obviously times when this winds up causing the eng to either not dodge (and die) or dodge and become revealed (and kitten the escape… and die).
It’s a cousin of the problem with last refuge.

yes. i agree. i already mentioned it somewhere that espacially the bombs-on-evade trait is very VERY unhelpful. You’ll get punished for dodging and can’t even choose not to equip this trait, since it’s a minor trait. someone then said he liked the trait to push his damage over the cliff. which is not a valuable argument imo, since the effect of not beeing allowed to dodge while stealthed ruins the fun way more than not having like 5% more damage output.
i DISLIKE bombs-on-evade SO MUCH!
Engineer stealth seems to work a lot better offensively to get me into a fight than to protect me outside of one.
The trouble is the engineer has no real blasts that don’t do damage so it is always an either/or. The magnetic shield has a knockback (so that won’t help not reveal where you are or help with a stealth stomp).
If it is intended that engineers can’t use stealth to escape well, then ok, but I suspect that was not the design case.
So what has happened is I now can get this weird 12+ second group stealth by blowing lots of skills on the smoke bomb to get a group in a fight, but can’t effectively use stealth to get myself out of a fight. That just seems odd to me!
Magnetic inversion does do damage (the blasting part of eng shield 4)

It just seems to apply the blast/stealth after the damage. However if you use it when already stealthed (to try to increase your stealth time in a smoke field) it’ll reveal you (no?)
