Charm/ Entice/ Lust

  • Makes the target opponent move towards you (instead of away from you; think of an inversed version of fear).
  • Target’s forced movement will be slower (they won’t be running towards you).
  • Daze effect is not applied (target can still cast skills).
  • Synergies with confusion.
  • Synergies with torment.
  • Can be counter-played (healthy in competitive modes).

Scepter Rework
(Taking into account the newest changes to add Torment to auto-attacks)

Skill #2

  • No longer a block & counter attack theme going for it (leave that flavor to swords, where it is more fitting).
  • Sequence skill:
  • 1. Applies several stacks of torment on first use, and creates a clone;
  • 2. (Sequence available after 1 second) Charms target opponent for 3 seconds.

The block is fine the AA will be decent post patch. I’ m a fan of condition but that one too many compared to the cleansing my thief has and that’s a cc condition on AA my thief only as one break stun. You’re putting oil on the flames.

Edit: not cc on AA but come on mesmer is the last class in need for a new condition yes I am talking about guard until their skill bar is present.

I suggested this because I thought it was interesting and fitting, not exactly because the profession “needs” it.

That being said, I find a version of scepter getting charm more interesting than the current version of being a pseudo-sword (with beams).

Interresting Idea. Also there is already such a condition! There is an event near the fort vandal in the brisbane wildlands that spawns a champion that “charms” the players. A mechanic they could use more often!
This is the boss! You can see that I got that effect on me in my buff bar. It is called taunt.

about charm , I don’t think it’s a good idea to add this as a condition .It’s too hard to balance with current condition and removal system.
If u wanna add such a thing as cc then we could just make spear a land weapon.

Trust me, if they had a “charm” skill, I would be all over what ever profession it was on. I have always LOVED charm spells in every MMO. The problem is, well, just look at the ranger pet problems.

Not really, I wish they speed up the after cast time after the block. Its pretty clunky.

This is the boss! You can see that I got that effect on me in my buff bar. It is called taunt.

That’s very interesting. “Taunt” is probably a more general word, so it can be used for other professions. I can already see some sort of:

  • “Lust for Darkness” for the necro;
  • “Love Potion” for engineers;
  • “Provoke” for warriors;
  • “Follow the Light”/ (Sequence skill) “Judge the Follower” for Guardian;

All sorts of different flavors for the same mechanic.

Also, this:
Whip (MH Weapon for Mesmer)

  • Weakening, cleave auto-attack;
  • “Lust”/ “Temptation” skill with the proposed mechanic;
  • “Illusion of Vulnerability”/ “Play the Victim”, where you would get SELF-vulnerability for 3 seconds… but, if the opponent dared to attack you at that time, they would be greatly punished (with a whipping phantasm that would weaken its victim, or just a skill’s effect + a clone).

That being said, considering that scepter’s main design theme was to be tricksty, and considering that it already has confusion and torment, I see this “charm” effect fitting in like a glove, and giving it a very unique yet mesmery spellcaster playstyle. Which is something that the Mesmer class needs more, considering how many duelist weapons it already has (and might even have in the future), including its own scepter that blocks and counter attacks like a sword… (Not that I mind counter-attacking tactics, but it’s just off in scepter, imo).

Me too. Most CC skills in this game feel more like combo breakers – interesting to burst down someone or interrupt a key skill, but underwhelming for epic effects. They were clearly designed around PvP more so than PvE. GW1 had some truly epic crowd-control builds, and the hardest encounters or the newest content would be unforgiving without them!

While staying on topic, here’s this possible mass-control utility/ elite skill for the Mesmer:

Enchant the Crowd

  • Applies “charm”/ “taunt” on target area. For 3 seconds, all damage you would receive heals you instead.

If we see “control” tactics also as a more diversified and creative version of the archaic “tank” role seen in MMOs (considering it is its replacement), then this would be one such example.

There are so many interesting things Anet could do, if their design philophy didn’t put support/ control secondary to damage.

In general I like the idea.
At this point it very much doesn’t feel like Confusion is in any way something special of the Mesmer. Our applications are more than other classes have, but both Engineers and Warriors can achieve much more consistent confusion applications due to their higher base durations and ability to work with the runeset.

However, we’re getting quite a lot of Torment now. Not bad, punishes walking.

I like Charm however. Our own unique little CC, as Daze is a bit…eh.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.
