[PvX] Stop ignoring Guardians
It doesn’t matter which class needs the most attention. Guardians have received the LEAST attention for as long as we can remember. the ONLY positive change was the buff to meditations and purging flames, both which happened like a year ago.
Its about time this class gets some attention too.
I’d personally would love a rework of symbols/traits revolved around them. This skill only works in PvE where nothing moves. One of my builds goes full 30 into zeal but I get no benefit from the minors since i’m using 1h weapons(majors only benefit 1hs).
Edit: Any sort of skill that requires you(as well as your enemy) to stand in a small circle promotes a static gameplay style. This doesn’t work with how GW2 plays in sPvP.
Actually I main mesmer and I don’t shatter at all. I still kill things just fine too.
Yeah I know, that’s one of the larger remaining issues with Mesmers, our class mechanic goes ~unused in some of our builds. That being said, even a most die-hard Phantasm Mesmer should use F3 and F4 quite a bit or they’re not playing nearly to their maximum potential.

Being by far the best at certain roles is hardly a good indication of a balanced class.
80% of “support” in this game is distilled into the Guardian class. Stack enough of them in WvW and you make any zerg immortal.
The fact that they have been the ONLY viable midbunkers in sPvP since launch shows how ridiculous the class is. It’s just that we become so complacant with Guardians being nigh immortal and adding more support than the 4 other classes in the group that we think this is OK.
It’s not. Guardians may be ok in a 1v1 basis but when you add in group dynamics it’s clear this class is entirely broken. It has WAY too much support and innate tankiness, way more than any other class in the game. And it has not been good for the game.
Uhhhhh…. Guardians can hit like a truck when they spec for it, and still have decent survivability.

I really hoped this thread would have some constructive thoughts to it but as I read through it, I’m really disappointed at both sides. A bunch of bickering back and forth that supports nothing be done.
Guardians may be in a good place, for specific tasks. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some big holes in the guardian.
Only having one condition (burning) leaves out a huge aspect of play that every other class has. Bleeding on AA and a supplementary condition on CD (torment or confusion) is necessary to bring condi builds in line. Out of the core 5 conditions that do damage, guardians have burning. While most classes have 3 or more. In a condition meta that’s effectively leaving the guardians a step behind. Sure, they can compete in other ways, but why bar one class from general gameplay?
The only arguments I hear against condi guardians are “it doesn’t fit their image” or “guardians are in a good place”.
Add that and some soft CC and guardians wouldn’t have much else to complain about.

I think both of those would need to come with new weapons simply to minimize the effect on current weapons/builds because of how balanced the class is already.
This is especially so because guardian is the single class I can point to where traditional range advantages apply, specifically because every other class has such high access to soft cc and mobility that most advantages from ranged are nearly nullified (the only real exception being ledge advantages).
Seriously, it’s the one class I can point to as never feeling unfair or faceroll, nor feeling underpowered or a free kill. While it’s fine to want more options, it really has to be done in a way that doesn’t really affect the power level of the class.

Guardian are already strong.
They have a great DPS build, and support build.
They just don’t have a Condi build which ANet is trying to push. I also wish they push for Spirit Weapons viability too though.
