But yes, this is something that all professions benefit from. Warrior longbow, thief shortbow, elementalist staff and scepter, etc. If you nerf it for the ranger longbow you better do it to every other weapon across all professions that get extra range on their projectiles.

Given it’s been the same since the game first came out and people have only just now noticed after two years, I wouldn’t exactly call it game breaking.
Besides, the extra range for my shortbow and axes make a big difference when fighting longbow rangers on my beastmaster or trapper ranger, and this nerf would dramatically decrease my staff elementalist’s ability to hit people below while defending a keep in WvWvW.

Your wrong. I would make you a list of all the skills that prove you incorrect, but it would probably be a better learning experience for you to play some other professions and learn their skills yourselves. You are wrong on other accounts too. There are conditions in which every attack in the game, can hit for 240 over its maximum range, for example.

17. Intended. All ranged and melee skills have a 15% buffer range to take account for tracking.
That was said 6 months ago in response to a mesmer bug list thread.
A traited ranger longbow would hit for 1500 + 15% = 1725 units, however target tracking doesn’t seem to work as well when you are firing from outside the listed range.
I couldn’t care less if they fix it or not. But it needs to be fixed globally and not just for Rangers. And all at the same time. And not just for Staff and Bows. But for grenades, traps, marks, and bombs as well.
Bombs? How are bombs hitting outside of their designated range?
majority of ranged skills have 20% chance to create physical projectile.

Engineer Grenades, Kill Shot, Meteor Shower with blasting staff all hit FAR outside their listed range.
HOWEVER, to get max range, you need to MANUALLY fire. Auto Fire, AKA Auto Attack will only work at listed range + a little leway.
So you saying pistol has 905 range. That may be true, for the autoattack. The manual attack is slightly longer. Pistol Range can also be increased slightly with thieves using the Ricochet trait.

Even though only a crazy person would waste RF on the maximal range, because it can be avoided by strafing on that range…..

Except that it’s not dependent on you, if you hit it or not, it depends on the player you’re shooting at…. Unless you are shooting a training dummy and take that as an evidence

I have no problem hitting AI, golems, and people below the line of garbage skill tier with it either.
At what point do we draw the line for balance at? People seem to think this game should be like, Neo Pets balanced or something. This isn’t a game for low level, minimally functioning human beings.
Does anybody remember the spoon (totally doing a matrix reference), and how the spoon bends once you realize there is no spoon at all, but you that is bending?
It is not imbalanced, and once you realize it is not imbalanced, then you will realize that you are just bad and want mechanics nerfed around your garbage tier abilities so that the rest of us functioning human beings suffer. (not directed at any particular person)

Staff skills fizzle past max just a tiny bit over max range (like a step when it turns red), ofc fire ele has aoe on the end of it, but works like that mon most skills.
Ngrasp from necros used to go way past (like 1400, 1700 from a 45 angle like in jade fractal), but got nerfed like over half a year ago.

Staff skills are actually mainly the Fireball, chain lightning don’t have a trajectory, earth and water autoattacks are very slow projectiles and are not used for DPS, therefore I haven’t looked on them more closely, however the fireball has much higher range than the 1200 (for example on the Jormag Event, you can hit the dragon without being in the stacking DOT range, you just have to press AA manually (which means you’re out of the basic range of the ability – 1200 units).
Ranger can shoot him from the same range without manual AA pressing, if traited, because 1500 range. Without trait, Long-range shot is behaving basically the same as the Fireball….
But it’s like that since day 1, I don’t see how this is in need of nerfing, the game is build with this from the start….
