As many people know, rangers have had a fair amount of flak over the last few months, some of it deserved, and a lot of it (in my oh so humble opinion) not.

How about we take a deep, fresh breath and take a look at the things people like about the ranger, perhaps share a story about when a ranger managed to save the day, or just anything else that happened that was cool that may have been caused directly, or indirectly, by a ranger.

At best we could lift the spirits of a downtrodden profession, at worst… Anet will be able to see just how much we need the buffs.

Most helpful thing I saw a ranger do was swap to his zerker warrior for an exp mode dungeon.

You shouldnt ask for ranger buffs then, profession balance forum it is.

It was something tacked onto the end of the post, not the reason for the post entirely, good job on getting it shunted into the dark wanze, maybe there are more threads that need their location changed. Go on the hunt!

so our terribly thought out and placed traits, pathetic damage, near useless pets that are not getting fixed, lots of other stuff that needs attention, …, … is all a misconception and not deserving of unwarranted hate?

players have been begging for real change and improvement since beta (when they mashed 2 professions together to make rangers), and over a year into live it gets announced that one of our useless traps is becoming a combo field… yeah, let’s rejoice at the “amazing things” coming for ranger in 2014 that won’t make any difference!

quarterly sales and numbers keep dropping and professions and combat are one of the major reasons why. profession development as a whole is in desperate need of attention, yet surprisingly the most neglected so don’t go blaming players for developer issues and bad decisions.

It seems you misread my point entirely, this thread was mainly aimed at trying to balance out the hate that we as players receive for playing rangers. Yes the profession is broken and has a lot of useless baggage, but for those of us who play them it would be a nice change to have people actually see that we are making the best of a bad situation, even doing well enough to be accepted into certain situations such as dungeons. Rangers as a profession may be bad on multiple levels, but players who play ranger are not automatically bad by default.

That’s ridiculous though. Other classes shouldn’t have to put up with a broken and useless class. The only thing this class brings is spotter and frostspirit, two completely passive skills that could be served better as being tethered to a target dummy and hauled around the dungeon. I am absolutely fed up with the lack of care by Anet towards the Ranger class. Ranger players shouldn’t have to deal with this imbalance, and it’s really unfair to expect other classes to as well.

As someone who mained ranger, about the only good thing I have to say about the class is the flavour is awesome. The execution sucks diseased moose wang.

Damage isn’t there, group utility is limited to frost spirit/healing spring/spotter. No real burst. The profession mechanic doesn’t work – and has been described that way by the lead game designer. Utilities are too pet-centric, when said mechanic doesn’t work.

Entire thread is a fail premise.

There are no misconceptions. The problems with the class aren’t made up. The current perceived state of the class isn’t some elaborate ruse. The class is awful. It has always been awful. It will forever be awful unless ANet gets off their [censored] and does something about it. It has been a year, so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I play fine with my 10 0 0 30 30 ranger havent had a problem getting groups if ur good you make ur own groups guys.

Best memory i have as a ranger was soloing kholer from 80-40% while resing people up leting my full beast spec dual spiders tank him, this was pre change since now the adds would eat me alive while running around i guess

It’s pitiful that such a thread as this has to be created. It’s like trying to hang on to a lost cause.

If the devs haven’t addressed any of the core issues with rangers by today’s “balance” update, then it’s clear they either simply do not care enough or don’t read the ranger forums, because it’s obvious they’re not aware of the real issues. The game has been out for 1.5 years and the ranger is still where it has always been: bottom of the pile.

I appreciate my ranger. Playing the most broken class in the game for more than 90% of my time in the game has made me a better player. I understand fully why this class is hated by both its supporters and detractors. My ranger is a TP kitten and ascended crafter nowadays, ensuring that the other classes in my signature provide me with more fun.
