Ranger Pet Ignores Invis and clones
Ranger pets told to attack a target will track that target until recalled or the target stealths. Popping clones doesn’t phase it.
Ignoring invisibility could be the results of “Sic ’Em.” Or it could be a bug because, despite functioning almost identically, Invisibility and Stealth are actually not the same.
My clones lose interest in a target if it gets x distance away. Beside which, it is absolutely OP to destroy my main operating method by giving the Ranger an infallible method of finding the “real” Mesmer.
That’s a BS cheat when that bloody longbow is already far too powerful.
You mean like it’s so OP a Mesmer can stick an illusion on you and track you around anyway? They have the same tracking system. Ranger pets have a leash range as well that’s the same length as other AI.

i’m pretty sure they’re the same, since they trigger stealth skills on thief, and revealed denies access to it.
I’m all for nerfing/removing AI from the game’s pvp
Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
Then you’ll be left with 6 professions.

Ranger pets ignore Mesmer invisibility and clones. So, they always point out the Mesmer. They also have really excessive damage and will follow you across a pvp map… Wow I wish my clones tracked half that well.
INSTANT NERF TIME.
Rofl, thanks for the chuckle! You’re like the mesmer version of Daecollo!

If glassy mesmer vs bm pet/bird with might, it will not be unreasonable to expect hits over 5k on f2 use, and 2-3k aa’s

Welcome to Guild Wars 2 and something called counter-play.
I’m guessing you’ve just lost to a ranger in pvp/wvw and decided to moan about it on here? Whatever the case, you’re going to love what’s in store for rangers in the next balance patch so I suggest you buckle down and take your medicine.

As someone who’s been playing Beastmaster in SPVP for a while now, I can attest to this. I’ve even seen my bird burst a poor glassy fellow for up to 8K before, after popping Sick ’Em, Rampage as One, and using the F2.
Though to be fair, Original Poster, I made this build because I was tired of my target constantly disappearing on me mid-battle and making me try to target the real opponent through all their clones/extra thieves/other players/other players pets.
As someone said above, it’s called counter-play.

I think stealth skills on thieves and their “when in stealth” traits are not triggered by Invisibility, though that’s the only difference. They should all be unified for simplicity.

You mean the exact same way mesmer clones and phantasms re-target thieves, rangers, engies and the other “real” mesmer when one of them stealths against you?
If you nerf ranger pets to not re-aquire you when you stealth, the nerfs going to hit mesmer clones too, and you will never kill another thief for as long as you play GW2. just throwing that out there. youre a mesmer, top of the pvp food chain second only to condi necros. try crying about mesmers poor spec diversity and not, of all things, dem OP Ranger pets.

Umm…what? Mesmers and condition necros (heck, necros period) are not even close to the top of the PvP food chain.
The rest of your post was spot on, but this…

i am referring to 1vX matchups in pvp and wvw, and not overall spvp/tpvp team value or popularity. pvp is a general term everywhere else besides gw2, where suddenly it means a specific subset of all the types of things normally called pvp, sorry for the confusion.

All of you missed the point. The major defense of the Mesmer is to confuse the enemy. Ranger pets destroy that because they are never confused. All the Ranger needs to do is launch the pet in the right general direction.. and everyone in the area knows who is the real Mesmer. Kiss your defense goodbye.
No one missed the point…
Simple fact is all AI works this way. Ranger pets, Memser clones, Thief clones, Guardian weapons, etc etc etc.
It’s an AI issue and is also likely the same reason channeled skills continue to do damage to invis/stealth targets as opposed to dropping target.
It can’t be fixed without an AI change. Seeing as how Ranger’s have been complaining about their pet since launch and ANet has ignored them for going on 2 years I honestly wouldn’t hold your breath expecting a fix.
I do wonder though… shortly after the game launched they changed stealth to no longer drop target and de-agro mobs in PvE. I wonder if these issues existed before that change?

So your major counter to every skill on every profession is to cause lose of targeting and confusion. And your okay when you have a counter. Yet you take issue when someone else has a counter to your misdirection? Seems a bit hypocritical doesn’kitten

congratulations on finding the one thing ranger pets can be useful for. and not that useful either, it’s not often that a mesmer manages to have so many clones around that you lose track of him.

Dude I have to disagree here.
It’s not “NURF”
It’s: “Errrmahgerd OH PEE, NEEEEEERRRRRFFFFFFF!!!!”

thats also the major defense of thieves, and a major defense of using the ranger longbow.
so by your logic, because AI should be confused when people stealth, its perfectly fine with you if your clones stop functioning every time a thief, ranger or anything else uses stealth against you?
cause its either that or mesmers get some kind of magical AI double standard, and that isnt going to happen.
Celestial Avatar is like an old man: Takes forever to get up and is spent in 4 seconds
i am a mesmer and can confirm that stealth stops the pet from atking u
why would pets atk clones if ranger puts his mark on u, and tells pet to atk u, just why?
in pve when al doesnt get halfway controlled by players its undderstandable, but in pvp it isnt, and rangers r pretty weak anyway(besides those condi rangers (in my opinion))

Longbow too powerful?
HAH! What an honest joke. Zerker ranger is so far below the meta of spirits or even traps it’s hilarious that you think it’s too powerful.
Although that being said most rangers would love to not use the pet if they didn’t have to, and just add the pets DPS to their own.

I suppose all the invisibility, teleportation, evades, blocks, interrupts, stuns, and the condition that punishes the other player for playing the game don’t count as defense?
The clones are more of a mild inconvenience for most players. I’m not all that great and even I can usually find the real mesmer after a couple seconds of looking around for which mesmer is moving out of sync with the others. The pet just saves me an extra second.
If it’s really that big of a problem for you, you could always kill the pet and leave the ranger blind. A common counter to mesmers is to waste time killing the clones with AoE first to prevent a shatter. I don’t see why you can’t employ the same anti-AI tactic against these ranger pets that are apparently the sole reason you can’t keep yourself alive.

its a good thing there is still players like you around. Without them, my ranger would certainly get fewer kills.

I have a news flash for you… Check the feet of your target. Clones do not have the little glowing red ring around their feet like the real mesmer does. Pet or No Pet, we still know which one is you.
P.S. You also run around in circles, your clones… not so much, again giving away that it is you…
P.P.S. Kill the pet in like 3 hits and then kill the Ranger as 30% of his DPS is in the Pet thanks to ANet.

Well, you can say its unfair that pets can chase the real mesmer, okay i can see that being annoying..
But then again, is it fair that skills like ’’Sick’Em’’ do not reveal the mesmer for the entire duration when the mesmer uses decoy (or some other skills that apply stealth regardless of the reveal debuff)?
Or that mesmers do not get revealed when their phantasms deal damage?
Ow also, your shatter skills go to the real mesmer as well, as long as you activated them targetting the right one, doesnt that deserve a nerf then as well?
:insert a lot of unfair things in the game:
There are a lot of problems in the game, also with ranger pets (though there are less problems as most ‘’i want to be an archer without pet’’ people claim there are), but that the pets are chasing a target that you selected and pressed F1 for as long as as the target remains visible and attack them when they become visible again (because they can not track things in stealth) is not one of the problems..
But then again, is it fair that skills like ’’Sick’Em’’ do not reveal the mesmer for the entire duration when the mesmer uses decoy (or some other skills that apply stealth regardless of the reveal debuff)?
Decoy is the only mesmer stealth that circumvents sic ’em. and generally they blow that kitten early for the juke.
Celestial Avatar is like an old man: Takes forever to get up and is spent in 4 seconds
A lot of things are wrong with stealth, like trying to maintain target (using the targetting sytem provided) on a thief blinking in and out for instance, nearly impossible. For everything broken that doesnt favor stealth there are 5 things broken that do…to pull a number out of my derierre.
