The end of class imbalance.
I rather have a secondary profession not from another trainer I really don’t like the idea of a kill shot war having access to stealth people would abuse of the mix way too much it would be a battle of the cheapest.
We just need traits to sync in better with the spec and stats given.
The Dhuumfire thread
Lol I thought about this but with profession mechanics!
Have fun fighting that warrior with 2 clones and a phantasm that stuns your target every 6 seconds!
But in all seriousness, it would only really help necros, since the other professions probably don’t want its wells. Oh and everything with an icebow would trivialize pve comps even more.. It’d go back to the 4 warriors 1 mesmer meta (maybe not that last part).
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
secondary profession is what made GW1 broken as hell. sure there are tons of valid options, but there are infinitely more bad options, and quite a few options that outright broke the game.
and the way guild wars 2 is designed, all it would do is homogenize stuff too much, while creating some seiously broken issues. who needs dhuumfire when you can have consecration necros (or worse, judge’s intervention necros teleporting around)? what about immortal banner/shout guardians? warriors and engis with portal, for kitten’s sake. thief with improvisation and conjure weapons.
sure, they sound cool, for the first 10 minutes. then you go rage on forums at how secondary professions killed PvP, and how mesmers are now useless in WvW because thieves can stealth better and thus hide in keeps for backcaps better, while having all the glamours that mesmer uses to have some sort of importance on the GWEN meta.

Introducing the absolute solution for class imbalance, intended for PVE/WvW (at first): Secondary Profession!
@BrunoBRS well in two paragraphs you gave several different examples, i’d call that increasing diversity in builds and opening more choices on personalizing my character to my playstyle…
inb4 everyone running around with endure pain and warriors complaining about it
Because making a complex and hence ~impossible to balance system more complex is the way of making it easier to balance. GW1 was a nightmare because of it :S

yes, i gave several examples of things that would be gamebreaking. build variety is only good if the builds are balanced.
I’ll play along: my desire would be Ranger/Engineer for the kits.
ok i really want to understand: what’s so gamebreaking on a Warrior or Engineer with portal that’s not “gamebraking” on a Mesmer as is?

You forgot to switch account before agreeing with your own thread. :P

Mesmer is so unused in all game modes because apart from a few unique utilities, they don’t add anything to the party a required class (Warrior, Guardian, Ele) doesn’t already add in same~better.
The unique components are Veil (important for WvW but you only need one~two) and Portal. The latter is used, but not much any more (the veil-players can easily cover it) because after the culling-range change, the portal bomb idea no longer works, instead you stack yourself nicely for maximum trapping potential. As in: in most cases you suffer from using portal, not the enemy. It is still nice to help people with JPs, ofc.
So really, there’s nothing OP about a Portal on a Warrior. The one~two mesmers in your WvW group might mind because they’ve just become fully redundant if other classes could also bring Veil and Portal, since they already supercede everything else a Mesmer does.

warrior and engi have amazing CC and cleave damage that makes them pretty good at decapping points. suddenly, decap builds get buffed with the ability to drop portals at their leisure. portal is one of the strengths of the mesmer in PvP because it gives the class group mobility that’s unparalleled.
basically, in all game modes, mesmer is a utility-bot, namely glamours. if you can have someone that isn’t a mesmer to use veil on WvW zergs, if you can have a thief portal players inside a keep (since thief can keep 100% stealth upkeep with the right utilities while waiting for the zerg to get to outer), then mesmers are out of WvW.
if you can have warriors bringing feedback and/or portal for dungeons, the niche mesmers barely still have in dungeons is gone.
that’s only one profession.
shared utilities would devalue certain playstyles and favor the already strong ones with more firepower. it’s a bad idea.

what?! no i’m just hovering other threads while watching closely this one… and i was playing along Wyrden’s tip about endure pain. i’m sure many other ppl have such fantasies aswell and with such feature one could really get creative in build making

the problem you don’t seem to be understanding is that the builds wouldn’t just be strong. they’d be too strong.
hell a mace/shield-greatsword warrior with stealth could setup a burst far stronger than any backstab without any way for the other player to react. or killshot from stealth. or scepter/dagger ele with stealth.
or thief with endure pain.
or necro with shadowsteps.
these are builds that would effectively null the weaknesses of those classes.
secondary professions would be awesome, this game lacks depth.
Too many trait and weapon interactions to even consider the possibility of having access to other profession’s utilities.
While it sounds a good idea, and to be honest any new skills to use for a profession would be welcome because they’re a bit stale right now, there are just too many deadly combos that can arise from shared utilities. I don’t think a list of them is necessary.
Corrupt Boon on Warriors.
Just think about that for a moment, and you will see why this is a terrible idea.
Last thing I want is a warrior with a grenade or bomb kit.

I have never played an MMO with different classes/professions that had them all balanced out. Not going to happen here.
